Never judge a book by its cover! I like the hostel a lot. It’s a laid back, has what I need and Paul is a friendly and interesting character. You get a bed, breakfast, a grade two listed character property, chess boards, board games, books, pool, artwork, a wood burner in the lounge and some endearing and curious gulls. Close by are the White Cliffs, Dover Beach, Dover Castle and the English Channel. History, nature, games, views and interesting people :) Just don’t judge a book by its cove...
Lovely Staff. Great location. Great value for money. And you can see that they are working on making improvements.
Such a cozy place! So convenient to the ferry and staff so friendly and helpful!
No staff seen during our stay. On arrival, we had to call the manager (number on the door) to get the keypad code. Room was clean but small; window was not secure and banged loudly in the wind. Poor soundproofing—noise from upstairs woke us. Another group late arrivals couldn’t access the building or reach anyone. Shower area was very cold. Security relies on guests closing the door. Would not stay again.
It was an experience. Gary’s been sober for two weeks so unlike some we weren’t met by a drunkard. He’s on the granola now. Played us a song on his guitar too. The place did a job although it’s a right old state. Felt like we were on safari in another country where laws and health and safety don’t exist. Would we return? I think we probably would. Made a memorable start to a cross channel trip. You can smell the ferry port from the rustic roof terrace. And study the white cliffs up clo...
Everything is covered in a sticky substance, chairs and couches have white mystery stains, doors are stained black from grime where they have been touched, the floors are rotting, garbage everywhere, had to squeeze past a blackened moldy mattress to access our room, The men's washroom smells like piss and has mold growing on the floor from over spray, the toilet stall is infested with spiders. The showers are falling apart, rotten. Only hostel in town and they take advantage of that. HELLISH
Had a great time! A bit rough and ready around the edges, but good for a night before the ferry.
Allowed me to check in very late which was nice, great location for an early ferry.
fantastic location for catching the ferry. fairly secure covered area for bicycles. not super clean but fine for a night for me. I slept well. very flexible check in and out.
This hostel is not fit for purpose. It is damp dirty and the staff were drunk not what you expect from Hostelworld, unacceptable that they have had so many bad reviews and they’re still on the site. I have sent a message to Hostelworld and I haven’t responded. I’m disappointed. I have stayed in hostels all over the world and this is very poor and this is disappointing.
Cute atmosphere, nice staff. Some food, plus tea and coffee, free to use - which is unique. Quite Not clean, and the mattress was old and not comfortable
The worst experience ever. The city council has received my complaints and photos and will investigate this place that should be closed. The fully descriptive review I did was not approved by HostelWorld.
It's the flithiest hostel I have ever been to. Not sure about this scale and how can it be given 3.1, when it should be rated in minus. It's scary and scarring how the pictures are so deceiving on the website. This place should be shutdown for every possible reason.
The staff were very kind and helpful. However my room was damp and filthy. When I arrived the bed had not been changed and there were no towels. Both were resolved promptly on request but the dampness and dirt remained a huge problem. There was a hole in the walk in the bathroom and the wood in the windowsill was rotten and broken. Not to mention the stinginess with toilet paper. Nowhere to eat nearby, advertised pub is closed.
Friendly and helpful staff, but very Dirty facilities
Fantastic location. Located in a tiny old house the old pub is livingroom with TV Billiard chess no licence for for alcohol . Terrace behind house under the white rocks Kitchen with Self Service breakfast. Sympatic host. Clean beds. A little bit run down but with charme
Great place to stay. Staff were nice and super helpful. Location was perfect for getting around by foot. Would definitely stay here again.
I booked the cheapest hostel in Dover and got what I expected. Shame that the establishment is no longer licensed, and it is run down and filthy, but the local characters were very friendly and good company. Had a private room. Shower was excellent but room felt a little damp. If I was on a solo hiking adventure, I would definitely stay again.
