Hangtime Hostel

Maybe one of the best hostel i went to! Weligama is definitely the place where you have to stay if you want a calm location where you can learn to surf. The hostel is in front of the beach and there a restaurant on the top floor where there’s good food. It’s lacking a bit of atmosphere/social areas to but i was there with a group of friends so we didn’t really care. The volunteers do organise a lot of activities and were extremely locely

Loved my time here. The cafe upstairs, the paid Yoga classes, the staff , the events and the location I stayed in a private room downstairs for about seven days and i had a great time the staff at the cafe were kind, the social events were fun, all of the yoga teachers were friendly and I liked the concept of having breakfast with the students and teachers past 10 am after the class. the ocean is right across and is just so beautiful.

Best 3 weeks here - the staff were helpful and super friendly (Big shout out to Ollie and Don!). Rooftop cafe had amazing views of Weligama beach, and the food was top notch.

Hanghtime is honestly one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at. The rooms are super spacious and always spotless, they clean them every single day! The atmosphere is super chill, but there’s always something going on. The Monday open mic is such a vibe! The rooftop is absolutely beautiful — having breakfast up there while checking the waves! Honestly, one of the BEST hostels I’ve ever been! The size of the room was amazing, it was a 6 ppl room but plenty of space to walk and have my stuffs organised. Food at the restaurant was delicious and the ocean view from rooftop is next level. Also they propose activities to meet people and go to different places and that was also super helpful to don’t be alone. Amazing place, I’ll come back definitely

Rooms are a bit messy. Our broken AC turned the room into a pool. My backpack got wet and the room began to smell. Rooftop and stuff is nice tho

Ich fands super dort !! Ich habe sogar nochma verlängert. Perfekt um Augen zu gehen da es direkt am Meer liegt. Gutes Yoga im Yoga Space, Coworking möglich, Internet kommt auch mit videocalls einigermaßen gut klar, viele tolle Cafés und Restaurants in der Nähe und sogar eins auf der Dachterrasse. Volunteers organisieren Events und über eine Whatsappgruppe kann man sich zusätzlich verabreden. Ein sehr schöner Social Vibe dort. Würde sofort wieder hin !

the bed is quite old/uncomfortable, and because the hostel is on the main road it’s very noisy at night. It’s been a problem for sleeping.

The dorm felt a bit dirty and it got a bit messy in the bathroom after showers + no ventilation in the bathroom. The bed was unfortunately quite hard and made noises when moving. The location is in the middle of Weligama so it’s close to most places but that also means a lot of noises from the street. Staff was very friendly and I like the possibility to join social events.

The rooftop bar is great. Nice vibe in the hostel. However: Bedbugs! Not great waking up to a bunch of bites (I caught one biting me, so I know it was a bedbug, due to the smell). The guy behind the reception at night did or offered nothing when I told him I needed another room. I slept in a common area. Checked out the next morning, told them to fix it asap. Staff didn't seem to really care.

do not go as they have bed bugs. i couldn’t get to sleep since everywhere my body was itching. i thought it was from the mosquitos but when i turned on the light at 2AM i saw 3 large bed bugs on the wall. took a photo and killed 3 of them but if they are so easy to spot there must be many if them. haven’t slept at all

Had an amazing time at Hangtime. Stayed for 3 nights at first then came back for another 4. It was a great hostel with top class facilities and amazing social hosts. Katie was awesome - she showed me local places to eat, drink, surf and party. She was also brilliant at organising group trips and social events and made everyone feel included. She made my stay.

Good place to stay, very close to the weligama bay beach so best for learning Surfing there. Little bit of improvements can be done in terms of facilities, no kitchen facilities for us to use, relying on Cafe which is a bit expensive than surrounding cafe's

Was a really nice hostel. Great location and nice view from the balcony. However, it wasn’t a social hostel in my experience. The family dinner was just ordering food on your own at the Hangten restaurant and the social hosts were very much among themselves and not very outgoing towards other travellers. Also, I had a big discussion with the staff at the reception because they wanted to charge more night than I actually spend there. Bathroom was very clean and beds were huge

Love this place, views are amazing, food in restaurant is super good. I loved the doorm and I especially loved my stay in private, such a nice rooms.

The hostel is in a great location for surf. They offer daily yoga classes, and the coworking space and cafe are nice too. However, the private room we stayed in was a bit stinky and the AC did not work well. If you wanna be in the center of it all and aren’t too picky about your room, it’s a good spot. And if you’re struggling to pick from the million surf schools across the street, I really recommend Banda Surf!

Good location, restaurant food is also good but they don’t serve alcohol. However the hostel really lacks social atmosphere in the evenings and the hostel in general didn’t feel very clean. They also have no curtains on the beds, we ended up leaving early from this hostel.
