Good vibes, friendly staff and fellow guests. Shower room is traditional Japanese style and a little dated and no lock. Location was fantastic. Overall super great value, would stay here again.

Great chill vibes! One of the most relaxing places I have stayed at. Located really close to the beach, botanical gardens. Toshi provided great recommendations for restaurants, would definitely stay here again for the atmosphere. .3 off the rating due to not being able to figure out the hot water situation for the shower but otherwise amazing place to stay at!

This is one of my favorite guesthouses I’ve stayed in. It really carries a social (but not party) atmosphere that I find many hostels don’t have

Ambiance très cool à la guest house Hooju ! Aoshima est un repaire de surfeur, mais pas que. Le sanctuaire shinto Aoshima-jinja et le musée sur la mythologie japonaise, les restaurants offrant du chikin nanban (plat de Miyazaki), sa côte rocheuse et sa proximité (en train) avec Miyazaki en font un emplacement de choix. L'ambiance avec les autres logeurs était très agréable. Nous avons sympathisé et passé du temps ensemble. Mon séjour était top !

Very good for its price, I would suggest it if you need 1 or 2 nights in Aoshima

Great vibes!!! Japanese style hostel, 2min walks from both Aoshima Train Station and Bus stop. 5min walk to Aoshima Island and sorrounded by cafes, restaurants and shops. Toshi is a very chill guy and speaks english hence communication was very easy. The room/kitchen/bathroom were all clean. The futon was very hard though. I confirm there is no lock, neither at the entrance nor in the room, because there is no need for one. It is a very safe place for you and your belongings.

The bunk bed had visible b3d buugs under the frame when i inspected it. Stay away

I think that this hooju hostel Is one of the best. Nice spot, clean, calm, peaceful I want to go here every years if I can Thanks a lot.

Loved our stay at Aoshima! Staff are friendly, cheap and convenient surfboard rentals. There is zero security, the door stays open at all times, but it’s in a quiet and safe area so no worries. The location is great, right near the train station and the beach. Would 100% recommend staying here!

Would recommend in summer. In the winter there is not a lot to do in the village (in my opinion ).

Great location (close to beach and train station!) and very cheap but that’s all the positives. There is no security. Front door is left open all night, no lock on the door to the dorm, no personal locker for valuables. Beds are clean but bathroom is pretty run down. No common area or lounge to sit in. Staff were nice enough but hard to find. They do have surfboards and bike for rent but small selection and no wetsuits. I rented elsewhere.

Classic surfer hostel with a japanese twist. the tatami rooms are nice but be sure to have blindfold and earplugs ready, especially if your bed is right next to the kitchen. for a surfer hostel very clean, for overall standards okay I'd say. The area is perfect, we could also cheaply rent some surfboards at the hostel, great! Security is very very low as anybody could walk into the rooms and there are no locks or lockers but I wouldn't really worry (area and poeple are nice) I'd come again :)

Great location near the beach however, there is absolutely no security or key required to enter the building and rooms. The bathroom is shared with male and female and there is no lock on the shower. There are also a few long term stayers which is fine but they like to use the kitchen at 10/11pm when other people are trying to sleep so it is very noisy as the room is right opposite the kitchen.

Great hostel near a lovely beach and Shinto shrine. Awesome base to explore around the area and visit udo shrine. Toshi was a great host with chill surfy vibes, and the hostel is a good place to meet and travel with other guests.
