+ Great location in the national park, very quiet as a result (no calls to prayer at 4am). Breakfast included, was good and hearty with eggs, toast, pancakes and fruit. Set menu dinner for 150000, tasty plate of beef rendang. Free hot and cold drinking water available. Wildlife including wild boar and squirrels wandering through the grounds. They could organise transport to/ from the property and a park guide if desired.
- Main issue was that the room we were given was not pictured at all on the booking.com site. All the pictures for "Double room with balcony" are of the nice separate bungalows. Our room was one of a row of 4. The "balcony" is a small area in front of the room. Listed facilities on Booking.com included a mosquito net, fan and flat screen TV. The room we were given had none of these. It was very basic and quite run down. See actual photos with this review. Limited information given - we didn't know the cost of dinner until it came time to pay the bill. We had read elsewhere that there was a park entrance fee of 200000, but this is not specified on Booking.com or on arrival, it is just charged on the bill at the end. We came overland and it took a while for the national park check points to let us through because they have not heard of "Plengkung Lodge" - they know it as Joyo's. It is not clear from booking.com that it is the same place.
- In 2.5 years of traveling around Indonesia — this is the worst price-to-quality ratio I’ve experienced. I couldn’t have imagined something like this was even possible in Indonesia! The room we were given was overpriced by at least 4 times. Sometimes the service is good, sometimes it’s completely absent. I strongly do not recommend staying here!! Before getting to the hotel area, we had to pass through two national park security checkpoints. At each of them, we waited for about 10 minutes while they checked our data, even though I had provided the scooter information in advance. We booked a room for three people, although there were only two of us. At check-in, we were first given the simplest room, despite having booked an upgraded option. After we showed that the photo in the booking was of a completely different room, we were given another one — a “superior” category, slightly better than the first. However, in terms of quality, it’s worth a maximum of 300,000 IDR, while we paid 1.2 million IDR per night through Booking. They told us that our room was already occupied! 🤯 Also, I saw other available superior rooms — so why were we placed in the simplest option right away?? We arrived at sunset. The new room was given to us when it was already dark, and we didn’t really have a choice anymore. Horrible! We couldn’t drive back out. The staff doesn’t explain anything themselves. Upon arrival, they just said, “go straight, someone will meet you there.” You have to ask everything separately — about breakfast, Wi-Fi, hot water, etc. Breakfast, by the way, was included in the price and was good. Wi-Fi in the room was weak and unstable, and mobile signal was almost nonexistent. There was no hot water in the room — at best, it was barely warm, although reviews mentioned hot water in the more expensive rooms (the kind we paid for!). A separate story with dinner. There was no information anywhere about a free evening buffet — not on Booking, nor at the hotel.
