Ngampilan Backpacker Hostel was amazing! It felt less like a usual hostel and more like a home stay— that just shows how welcoming and caring the owners are! We even got to sing Adele together! The hostel is in a great location and is very walkable to most places!
I felt really uneasy at that hostel. The bottom beds are used by people who live in the hosteI so I just felt like I was walking on eggshells. One of the woman living there wanted the lights turned on all night, even after I switched them off in the middle of the night. I just cannot recommend for people looking for a social or homey space.
This facility had bedbugs.
Overall fine hostel in a really central part of Taichung - close to the main bus stops, lots of good restaurants and cafes. The dorm beds are very hard but have relative privacy. Showers are pretty clean but all but one on my floor didn’t get hot. Laundry facilities on the roof are good (machines only take coins). As for hostel vibe, there is none.
The thinnest mattress ever, and I'm used to staying in lots of hostels. All the mattresses (not just mine) are very thin and completely worn out. I folded my mattress in the middle so that I at least had the feeling that I wasn't sleeping on a wooden board.
A clean hostel at a decent location in the city. There is however more of a antisocial atmosphere than a lack of atmosphere. The showers are also weirdly designed with no where to put your clothes without them getting wet. If you're looking for a good time probably skip this hostel or Taichung altogether.
Really not backpacker friendly. The worst hostel I have stayed at in Taiwan. Full of older creepy men who would stare everytime you walk by. Facilities very run down- washer and dryer didn’t work properly, The water fountain trickled out water, the bathrooms were not very clean. Didn’t have a plug socket next to my bed. They would open the room door at 11 every day for over an hour, the cleaner wasn’t even cleaning at this point- didn’t feel secure at all. You have to pay a deposit for ...
Nice, clean place!
not a social hostel. Staff is unfriendly… they have a coin laundry machine but do not provide an exchange for cash for coins… a huge con was that all rooms AC are turned off from 11am - 3pm…. Staff comes into room turns it off, loudly changes bedding, and unfortunately leaves the door wide open… didn’t feel as my belongings were safe… A few backpackers come here, however I would not recommend!
this is NOT a BACKPACKERS-HOSTEL! the beds are rockhard and not suitable if youre over 180cm. there is no atmosphere, most guests are taiwanese, there for work or "long term stays" i guess. i think some of them are living there. 4 showers and 2 toilets for the whole floor with (i guess 30+ guests...) shower cabin is 1x1m and i was barely able to turn around or sit on the toilet. 7/11 across the street is the best thing about this place... sorry :(
Nice, quiet hostel in central Taichung. Markets and public transport are close by, and the rooms were nice and clean. Close to the bus stop towards Sun Moon Lake too!

I had a really clean and comfortable stay here. There is a nice common area and I was able to hang out and meet a ton of people here. Good vibes and a helpful staff!
The staff was so nice and helpfull. Check in and out was easy. The beds were very hard and not so comfortable. I didn't really like the fact that people were living there long-term. It kind of ruined the purpose of a hostel and unfortunately meant that I shared rooms with old people who snores and farts like they are alone... The baths and toilets where okay, but I wish they were divided into gender. common area was okay.
Close to the station, but not much to do in central district. Large and rather unsocial hostel, beds & bathroom clean, no activity offerings, no further information were provided by staff (map or other local info). however good enough to stay over for a night or two
Great hostel!! The only thing I don’t like is the common area is a bit too hot when it is hot outside. But this is also quite personal. I can see some people are just perfectly fine with the temperature so I would count this one in my rating.
Großes Hostel, relativ unpersönlich. Die Waschmaschine für 40TWD war praktisch. Die Mitarbeiterin an der Rezeption war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.

Great location, many places to see in the surrounding area. Staff are diligent and helpful. Great value for the cost. Would recommend!
The nicest hostel I’ve stayed at yet. Location is great staff are amazing and the overall vibe is so special and quaint. Lots of showers and toilets for females and lovely social spaces.
