No ic in the room and bed clean questionable , no locker in the room only outside and a common global smell not nice

I get it.. it's a job. Not a personal vendetta against the world because you've gotten emotionally attached to the exact way things are supposed to be.... for you... But yep.. great set of guys doing a huge job successfully.. Couldn't ask for more out of these ancient brick buildings. It takes a structured group of guys to really make this hostel one of the greatest in Gas Lamp history. Really proud of them ol' geezers over there at the Hostel On 3rd!

One of the worst hostels I’ve ever been unfortunately. It’s not clean (my blanket was dirty and smelled…) and the people are not friendly. Bathrooms are gross… They also charge 10$ extra if you pay with card… trust me it’s really not a good place to stay and there are way better options. HI Hostel in San Diego was way better. It’s the same price too (around 40$-50$ per night). But enjoy San Diego!! It’s awesome!!

The management is insane. I have stayed more than 4 times. This last time was the most Kafkaesque experience ever. I made reservations. Upon check in the staff was extremely rude, (nothing new) she insisted I have my driver's license. I did, it was a temporary one, since my id was recently stolen, I also had my passport. Rude behavior of the dealing person, very smelling place, mattresses are bad conditions.

Pésimo servicio de la persona que está en recepción. Tenia una reserva y ni siquiera la tome. Estando ahí mismo, en lo que supuestamente tenían lista la habitación, busque otro lugar. Cucarachas, pésimo recibimiento, grosera la persona, Sucia, mal olor del lugar. Super mala experiencia, preferí perder mi reserva y pagar de nuevo.

Okay, so here's the issue with this place -- it's not so much that it's dirty, or has a roach or two, like the other reviews are saying -- it's honestly the staff and the environment. I've been staying in and working at hostels for a long time, and this one feels like you're walking into an hourly hotel. And it's the energy of the space that really does it: there's this older homeless guy with a dirty unchanging sweatshirt, everybody's surly, and so on. Gave it a fair shot, don't recommend it.

A perfectly acceptable choice to stay. Especially location. A nice, old-fashioned former hotel. Not adapted at all to be a hostel, which is a good thing. Still had charm. Like being transported back 50 years. Rather than genetic! Only thing I didn't like was the lack of heat, when it was below 50 outside.

Contacted property 2 weeks in advance and was told arriving past midnight on the booking Day was okay. When I arrived in San Diego told me too bad at Midnight on the day was told to find another place. Worst experience I have had with any hostel in the world.

Great location, kinda cozy but daytime staff are rude, unwelcoming and Mr Ho Chi Minh with the double ponytail thinking people are a nuisance… “Yeah, you got a question?” Excuse me? Im not expecting hotel level but at least have some decency to not snap at people when they’re arriving! Couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Never again.

Dirty, everything smells bad, it's unsanitary. I went for breakfast and it was really bad. Bad bed, hot room, dirty bathrooms, dirty rooms. I didn't feel safe at all. They charge a fee for "late check in" and an extra $20. But they don't tell you about it. It's scary to step outside and they'll charge you for it.

The mattresses on the bed were absolutely horrible. I was there for five minutes and knew I couldn't sleep there.

A basic hostal but very adequate place to stay for a budget traveler. Numerous strict rules to follow but that's OK. Fantastic location.

Staff was decent. The beds were awful. I legitimately felt I was in a halfway house. Those tiny roaches were in the bathrooms. The soap dispensers were terrible and the hand towel smelled moldy. The few people I met were nice, but it did not have a lively vibe, at all. This is a place to stay if you have nowhere else available or you are stretching every dollar. Otherwise, look for another place, please. You won't regret not staying here.
