Queen Victoria Hostel

I have travelled across Australia, staying in hostels in a similar price range to this one, and this is by far the worst experience I’ve had. The entire hostel setup and staffing team seem to be aiming to minimize effort as much as possible while still retaining a profit. Fantastic place to stay with a quiet yet friendly atmosphere, lovely rooms, more than adequate amenities and very helpful staff. Having stayed in many hostels before this was by far one of my best hostel experiences. Highly recommend

I only stayed for one night, but got good vibes from this place! The have lockers for your stuff, and privacy curtains on the beds which is appreciated. Didn’t get to check out the kitchen or other amenities

Would not recommend ! The beds were so uncomfortable my back has been hurting for a few days now and the rooms stink - when I told staff they did nothing. The owners were so rude (staff lovely) and inconsiderate people, definitely after your deposit so be careful. The showers were also disgusting and don’t lock properly same with the bathrooms. Kitchen amenities awful oven didn’t work and was grim. The good thing is the location is really good right near the Victoria market and CBD.

Where do I start. Filthy place. Dirty surfaces, ants all over the surface in the kitchen. Bathrooms often not restocked, hand soap, toilet roll often ran out without being replaced. Amenities shocking; oven didn’t work and toaster disappeared a few days in. Bed super uncomfortable. The whole place stunk so badly, it was hard to sleep. The owners were horrible people. Constantly rude and nasty, and had such attitudes whenever I asked a polite question. Saw them shouting at other guests. Nasty

Clean and Tidy hostel that is near to CBD. I have a very pleasant stay here.

Good location. Not very socialable

Lovely staff! Super helpful with keys, layout and setup. The bar wasn’t too loud at night but it is right by the tram. Only an issue is your a light sleeper, id bring earplugs just incase. Literally right across the street of the queen Victoria market, easy to access by bug and tram

That was by far the dirtiest hostel that I’ve been to in my whole life! The housekeeping came into our room once but literally didn’t do anything! There were homeless people sleeping in the living room, I saw them when I went in there to just chill a bit. The owners should be ashamed to take Monday for that place.

The owners are the nicest people! Loved my stay here. I’ve stayed at a few other hostels in Melbourne, but this is the only one that truly felt a bit like home. It’s not too big, has a relaxed atmosphere, and you can always find a quiet spot if you need some downtime. The place is clean, cozy, and has a really welcoming vibe. Great location too—close to everything but still peaceful. Perfect for anyone who wants a social hostel without the chaos. Can recommend 10/10!

worth the money

Pretty good, nothing special. Nice comfy beds, rooms were clean and good sized lockers. The showers don’t lock properly, tiny kitchen and the bar downstairs wasn’t a great atmosphere, lots of regulars drinking. Lots of long term people there clearly working and not there to socialise. Limited social/eating areas. Everything seemed a bit dated but for a budget stay it did the job.

Friendly staff, pub downstairs was very accommodating. Men’s showers could do with a bit of a freshen up but a good place to stop for the weekend.

Location, really good, tram access to all parts of the city. Diagonally across the road to Queen Victoria Market which is a lot of fun, Thursday and Friday nights.. Bathrooms are tiny, one person can barely fit inside. The privacy curtains do not extend across the whole bed, therefore defeating the purpose. The layout of the different rooms is confusing to navigate. Great staff & location, but would not stay again.

The hostel was great (location, staff, cleanliness, rooms) but the amenities were very small. The kitchen doubled as the laundry room and could only fit one person cooking at a time. One of the two women’s showers didn’t have hot water. Location was amazing!

One night a drunk man entered my room yelling and looking for a fight. There was no staff, no security, no one to turn to. The police only responded for him. It was an extremely uncomfortable and unsafe experience. On top of that, the cleanliness and facilities were very poor. Honestly, the worst hostel I’ve ever stayed in. I wouldn’t recommend it under any circumstances.
