The Nunnery

Amazing hostel like no other, the place in itself has so much character and is perfectly located, Lexie and Nikola from the staff are some of the friendliest people I ever met and made the stay so special. Other travelers I met there are now friends for life, the social life is the most wholesome ever. It’s no surprise that a lot of guests end up staying much longer than they planned, or come back when they thought they wouldn’t.

'Quaint' 'Has personality' .. Dirty, rundown, no hot water on entire floors at a time, rude staff (one employee in particular is notorious among the guests for being evil at heart and I can now attest as well). And if the tales of possums in the courtyard swayed your heart like it did mine, the yard is locked 12hrs overnight so you won't see them anyway! Lol. Unfortunately it takes more than a cute marketing scheme and good graphic design on posters to run a good hostel.

It was not a nice place to stay. Not clean, bad ambience.

Great value hostel in a fantastic location right next to Fitzroy and opposite the tram to take you into the CBD. Nice chill out areas and a really cool building. Clean facilities (struggles for hot water in some showers but never had an issue finding a free shower). Only thing to note the hostel is mostly long term guests, so if you're just visiting for a couple days it might be a weird vibe and hard to find people to explore the city with- they also left the dorm room open most of the time...

Imo best place to stay in Melbourne, Fitzroy is where you want to be and basically in the cbd, comfy atmosphere in winter, gets more lively in summer, staff are great and accommodating, was great for long term while working but there's also a party any night you want

Was good for the price. A lot of people staying here long term so the dorm rooms were taken over with peoples longer term setups. Felt like you were staying in someone’s bedroom unwelcomed. Good security and laundry facilities and good location close to nice cafes and shops.

Die Gemeinschaftsräume wurden gesäubert, jedoch nicht die Zimmer (Boden war staubig und dreckig, Müll wie z.b. ein Fake Nagel, Tüten, Papier), lagen auf dem Boden . An gewisse Regeln, wie das Verbot im Zimmer zu essen, wurde nicht eingehalten. Die Küche hatte kaum Besteck und das anscheinend im Preis mitinbegriffene Frühstück gab es auch nicht. Allerdings sahen die Bäder vergleichsweise gut aus.

The hostel is in a beautiful old house and the facilities are very clean. The cleaning staff have to remove every morning cans, bottles and trash from tables of the common areas and the front door which the mainly young guests left behind who have escaped from their mummy‘s home. There is much weed smoking on the terraces and at the main entrance. Outsiders sleep in the living room. The rooms are smelly, dirty and packed with stuff of LT guests. Even food is stored in the dorms. But nobody of ...

DO NOT STAY. The hostel was filthy, the room was a tip with people’s food and weed paraphernalia littered about. Doors were left open (balcony and door to the room) meaning things could have easily been taken- my bags were locked but there wasn’t adequate locker space to store bags. I left after one night with no compensation from the staff who were incredibly rude when I asked for a refund on the remaining nights I’d paid for. Glad i moved to a hotel or this would’ve ruined Melbs for me...

I would stay here again, it’s as advertised and they maintain it well

Awful night sleep! Couldn't get that beautiful, freckly receptionist out my head. Wish I could remember her name. But in all seriousness, the Nunnery in my short time was a safe haven, a nugget of joy, and all round wonderful hostel. Highly recommend. Enjoy peeps xx

Amazing hostel! Most people there are long term guests so I made some amazing friends, the atmosphere is fantastic and very social, especially in the outside common area. Everyone at reception is super nice and helpful, especially Lexie who is the goat. The facilities are very well maintained and the whole place is cleaned twice daily. The only problem is that the kitchen closes at 10pm every evening, but aside from that it is fantastic, would definitely recommend.

Great location but this is defo more of a party hostel, which is great if you're looking for that vibe, but not if you're looking for something more chilled, as there's people up most of the nights and no one working at the front desk past 11pm. The courtyard was nice but the kitchen is pretty small, and the beds felt pretty outdated without a privacy curtain.

It’s in a great location, i like that they provide a towel, I do wish the bathrooms were a bit cleaner. Overall I’d probably stay again.

The hostel has a cool vibe, the location is amazing but above everything is the staff. Specially Ben and Nicolas who might have been the best receptionists I’ve encountered in all my years traveling. Just really warm and sweet people who actually problem solve, a pleasure to interact with and a huge difference with other receptionists Ive encountered in other Melbourne hostels. Will be back again!

I have stayed in The Nunnery multiple times. It is always run by lovely people and it’s well set up to meet people and engage. Fitzroy is a great area as well, with a tram stop right outside the hostel and walking distance to 2 other lines. My only gripe is that the kitchen is locked until 8am which isn’t good if you’re an early riser and like to keep your food refrigerated.

The view from the rooftop here is like no other. The people are also incredibly nice--stuff and travelers!
