The beds and clean, the vibes are goood, the location is great! :)
Location is 1 mile south of downtown Kailua-Kona, with food options, ABC store and shoreline all within a 10 minute walk. Nearby street parking is available. Staff was friendly & helpful and amenities are more in line with a traditional Hawaiian locale rather than a modern hotel. Still, AC is provided to ensure comfort in sleeping quarters. Around the compound, there are open air huts to select from for various activities such as socializing to reading alone. Most of all, an affordable option!
I really enjoyed my stay here. Had many amenities including a stocked kitchen! Sally was very welcoming and the hostel was very clean. It’s a very nice place to have a chill weekend, and also close to town, very walkable!
I had a great stay and the location was perfect for grabbing dinner in the evenings or catching the trolley to go further around the island! I stayed in a single room which had plenty of space and was very comfortable. There were multiple bathroom options and I never had to wait to use the facilities. It was a quiet place, but that was what I was looking for.
We were assigned a room with a ceiling so low, my 6 ft husband couldn't stand up straight and there was a beam which made the ceiling even lower that he definitely would have hit his head on. We asked to be moved. Fortunately there was a room available. We spoke to the manager about it and she said that she heard that there was a really tall man assigned to that room. Really tall, really? Also,we were charged a surcharge for staying one night with no rstionallem
安全干净卫生,位置也很好,离海滩很近,离201巴士乘车点也非常近。
The room is way too small for 4 people and their belongings, there is only a tiny cupboard for each person about 1 cubic foot. The manager of the hostel is very rude and only cares about money not the guest experience. She’s also very rude to the new staff that are just learning their roles and trying their best. I was needing to change my reservation from 8 nights to 5 nights upon arrival, and the manager forced me to pay the full stay and was no help trying to provide me with a solution
location good, shower faciities poor
they advertise laundry facilities, but when asked for them, i was not able to use. was told the manager said no one could do laundry, they only can do their sheets and towels, because machines are old. thats not my problem, get new ones. the rooms had no fans or ac, it was hot in room. they had mostly workers, and took up most of the kitchen during busy times. guest should have preferably first at cooking. there were ants on the stove and always in the microwave. not a place i would stay again.
I rather enjoyed the security with the code lock doors and gate. Remember to bring a lock for personal locker for shared quarters. I like the care and caution for cleanliness and lysol and soaps available in each room, bathrooms, etc. With the various travelers it's a must for me. Baggage an luggage could be put away secure until check in. The staff is helpful and eager to help or answer other questions. The hostel is close to one of many beaches and close walk to downtown happenings.
Kona is an expensive place. The Kona beach hostel is a viable option in this context. and Staff very friendly and helpful. Garbage collection at 3.15 am on saturday morning is not the hostel's fault but was a significant impediment to a good night's sleep. Lack of windows in our double room meant outside sounds could not be reduced.
It’s advertised that you have laundry facilities at the hostel. You don’t… we were informed upon arrival that “the laundry facilities are for staff only”. Maybe remove it from your listing?
I was genuinely shocked by how little value this place offers for the price. Nearly $200 per night for a private room that feels closer to a budget crash pad than anything remotely premium. At that rate, expectations are high — and this place misses them by a mile. We quickly checked Hotwire and found a room at the Royal Kona Resort just down the street for about half the cost, which really puts things into perspective. The listing photos do not accurately reflect the condition or experience
Physical property nice everything else was not . Management is extremely strict , calling your phone to come back to move a bag. Throwing away meals within hours of refrigeration. Causing uncomfortable unsafe situations for medical patients throughout the stay. Cigarette smoke in the kitchen and eating areas is gladly accepted. Overall pay more for less freedom and wasted food and more rules than TSA. Last resort option for those seeking an enjoyable vacation. Worst experience at a hostel
Staff (Sally) doing the checkin was really cute, was showing me the facilities. But unfortunately the room wasn’t nice at all, it was in ground floor but felt like basement, also very old! There were ants and little insects in the bed, no toilet paper (and no spare one) in the female bathroom, flickering light bulb,…. It was only one man and me in a 6 bed dorm but I was told to take the bed directly in front of the AC, and the man kept on turning it on (cold+super loud!) the whole night -.-
The customer service is horrible. Can’t get ahold of anyone and when you do they really don’t care. I was bitten in my sleep by ants all in the bedding. Took a 22 dollar deposit and charged me almost the same rate as a hotel. I had better experience with this place in the past but unfortunately it’s no longer the case. I originally wanted to cancel but did not hear back from anyone until almost 30 minutes before they no longer allowed check in.
The hostel was okay overall but felt a bit overpriced. Some amenities listed on Hostelworld didn’t exist and some information was outdated. I reached out in advance about one amenity, didn’t get a response, and it wasn’t available on arrival. It wasn’t very social, with no activities and relatively few guests, so probably better for groups than solo travelers. Positives were the good location, decent cleanliness (for a hostel), and a special shout-out to Amisty, who was very kind and w...
