Island Wave Surf Hostel

Solo female travellers beware! This hostel felt SO unsafe and poorly managed. On arrival, no staff were present and there was no staff all night. A male staff member entered my female dorm and opened my bed curtain while I was undressed (no apology). Men entered the female dorm multiple times at night. Complaints were ignored, no security was provided, and we had to barricade our door with bags (which were moved when we woke). CCTV is pointless when no staff are there to act on issues.

I’m a solo female traveler and I found the staff to be quite creepy and ended up checking out early as there was only one other girl in my room and she was checking out so I didn’t feel safe staying alone. The room was clean and tidy the kitchen area was not, there is also no sitting space.

The pool is not filled. Also there is no shade on the roof so it gets unbearably hot during the day. No other common space in the hostel

I loved my stay here and fully because of the incredible people i met!! highly recommend solo travellers stay for a few days to meet some of the loveliest, open travellers to hang out with for the rest of their stay in sri lanka. i would say this is a social hostel and not party hostel. i also really liked the location of the hostel which is a convenient location. the staff is also super nice.

Had so much fun here. Rooftop common area is really coo. supermarket is in walking distance.when you are in hungover the pool on the rooftop was really useful The dorms were clean and new. Heading to North and will be back here for New year's Eve.

The hostel manager was lovely at reception. The bathrooms and rooms were clean and there was a nice atmosphere although it depends on the people staying there. The only thing that I would mention is that my door to my room would not close and the bathroom door would not close without a loud squeak as well.

Sødt personale og god lokation. Der rodede dog rigtig meget inde på værelset og badeværelset, så det tog lidt af renheds følelsen

It would be great if the common room could be organized a bit better and if some board games could be arranged

The hostel’s kitchen was useful but very dirty, we had to clean it ourselves since nobody else was taking care of it. The staff was inefficient and disorganized. There isn’t a proper common area; the rooftop was ok but lacked shade, making it uncomfortable during sunny days. The swimming pool was not ready for use. Overall, the stay did not offer good value for the price.

Nice and cheap hostel, easy connecting with other people, nost of the guests are very young. Its connected with the hostel opposite and there is always something going on. It was an 8 bed female dorm, incl curtains, cooled down with a/c, toilet and shoeer in the same room, all in all its perfect for surfers and young wild people. During night it was silent.

Nice hostel in weligama

Love this hostel, I really connected well with the owners/ reps at this hostel, great thing is that there is a hostel across the street where island wave and the place across are like sister hostels..anyways love this place love the people running it, thanks.

Nice Hostel

Light in the bathroom didn’t work the whole time I was there, room stank of feet, volunteer checking me in couldn’t of cared less about her job, door was never locked and reception almost never had staff there. Don’t reccomend
