Socrates Hotel Malia Beach

+ Die Menschen, egal ob Anna oder die Mitarbeiter an der Bar auch die Zimmermädls waren so freundlich. Wir waren überwältigt. Das Frühstück war der Oberhammer. So lecker, vielfältig und so großzügig hergerissen. Echt TOP.

- Es gibt nichts zu bemängeln. Hier hat Preis Leistung für uns, auf jeden Fall gepasst.

+ Goed ontbijt, zeer vriendelijk personeel. Zwembad en tuin mooi en goed onderhouden. Genoeg zonnebedjes en parasols. Kort bij zee en centrum. Goede wifi

- Er kwam 2 avonden geen water uit de kraan. Warm water was in de avond ook schaars. Er werd slecht schoongemaakt. Airco maakt veel kabaal. Hotel is wel toe aan vernieuwing. Bij slecht weer is er geen goede plek om je op te houden of te eten.

+ this was one of the best experienced I had in a hotel. The staff was always helpfull and very kind - a special shoutout go Despina the barworker, she made sure you had you food, drinks, breakfast… always with a smile! Also the barman was very helpfull in hours when the reception wasn’t open! A special mention to the fact that the food here was absolutely delicious - for a very good price.

+ Staff where exceptionally friendly and helpfull especially Despina at the pool bar. Can definetly recomend the Avli restaurant in old town Malia 10 minute walk away for delicious food and great service but several of the other resturants we ate in the evening near by where also pretty good. Good bus service running every 30 to 20 minutes depending on the time of day to Heraklion which takes around 60 minutes and bus stop only 6-7 minutes walk from hotel. Pool bar; which also doubles as breakfast dining area, are nice and a pleasent area to sit for a evening drink or a snack. Pool is clean and large situated in a pleasent garden area and we never had a problem getting a sun bed although some of the wooden sunbeds are showing their age and could do with a good sanding and a fresh coat of varnish on them .Breakfast is simple but adequate with a selection cereals, cold meats and cheese, bread and croissants, selection of eggs and cooked meats and small selection of fresh fruit, which was usually mellon, as well a dried fruits and nuts and plenty of fresh Greek yogurt!

- Very disappointed with hotel room it has seen better days and nothing like the pictures on the website. My biggest issue is how a 4 star hotel that we paid over £150 a night for B&B can not supply hot water to their guests . We arrived at 10.30pm after travelling most of the day and were looking forward to a shower to freshen-up but after running the tap for over 10 minutes realised there was no hot water so tried again in the morning but still no hot water. Asked at reception if there was an issue and was told it had been cloudy the day we arrived so the solar panels possibly had not heated sufficient water but she would speak to someone to turn the electric on which I assumed meant turning on the immersion heaters they have as a back up. Three days later we returned to the hotel at 9.30pm after spending a nice day in Heraklion and looking forward to a shower to freshen up and then going out for a night cap but no hot water again so ended up having a cold shower and so chessed off not in the mood to go any where! I checked again the following morning and let tap run 10 minutes and no hot water as had been the case every morning since our arrival. I went to reception again to conplain and I was assured there was hot water and I'd possibly not let tap run for long enough but on checking herself at a neaeby basin the receptionist acknowledged there was no hot water and would check again why as she thought the "electric" had been turned on. This issue along with those listed below sadly detracted from what should have been a lovely holiday and despite the wonderful staff will not be making a return visit or recommended the hotel to friends and family. The following is a list of additional items which are below par; 1. Difficult to get into room as had to fiddle with key in lock to make sure it alined in exact place in locking mechanism before it could be turned. 2.

- Dårligt wifi. Manglede konkrete regler for hvornår man skal være stille/slukke musik. Mangler skraldespand på værelset, der er kun på badeværelset.

+ Все было отлично, хороший небольшой отель, с прекрасным бассейном, баром. Отличное расположение, кафе, рестораны, море в шаговой доступности. Парковка для авто прямо на территории. Персонал очень дружелюбный.

- 1. В номере на троих было только две простыни, чтобы укрыться. В выходной день никого кроме официантов на баре никого нет, т.е решить организационные вопросы не с кем, простынь нам принесли только на третий день. 2. Аренда авто, в отеле нам предложили аренду авто на 5 дней по 50€, на набережной аренда авто от 35€, разные авто на выбор. 3. Перед выездом за несколько дней забронировали трансфер из отеля. В последний день перед выездом уточнили по поводу трансфера на утро, оплатили 45€, хозяйка сказала что накануне вечером нам приготовят и оставят на баре сэндвичи, т.к у нас был ранний выезд. В итоге, трансфер за нами так и не приехал, нам чудом удалось вызвать другое такси, умолять водителя быстро доставить нас в аэропорт. Большое спасибо водителю который буквально за 20 минут долетел до аэропорта, и мы успели на свой рейс. Такси стоит 60€+ 5€ мы добавили за быструю доставку. В итоге я написала в объект размещения, описала всю ситуацию, попросила вернуть деньги за трансфер. Деньги мне вернули, но было сказано что о том что мы уезжаем утром узнали только утром 😳. В это сложно поверить , но интересно если бы мы не попали в аэропорт вовремя, кто бы компенсировал стоимость билетов?? Исходя из произошедшего думаю что мы сами.

+ Our stay at the hotel was absolutely magnificent. The hotel boasts a truly professional team. There wasn't a single question that Anna at the reception couldn't answer she knows everything (and we asked a lot of questions!). She has excellent English skills and was always smiling and cheerful. The bar and restaurant, managed by Despina, operate just as flawlessly as the reception. The hotel grounds are extensive, featuring a beautiful pool and a restaurant with an extensive menu. Our room was recently renovated, with very comfortable mattresses and was well-appointed. We also enjoyed a large balcony. The location is also very convenient; it's quiet and peaceful at night, yet within a 10-minute walk you can reach bars, restaurants, and the beaches. A huge thank you to everyone involved (I firmly believe that any business is built on its people) for our excellent vacation! With love from Tel Aviv, Katerina, Maria, and Alexander.

+ Close enough to the beach (5 minutes walking distance).

- The furniture is outdated, the walls are dirty, there are no mosquito nets so you can’t really keep the balcony door open. At nighttime it gets very noisy, you can hear every guest who takes the stairs or the neighbors flushing the toilet. If you wonder why are there so many pictures with the pool area and less with the rooms, this is the reason -it’s a ‘90s facility with 2025 prices.

+ אווירה של מלון ביתי עם צוות מדהים שנת שירות מעל המצופה. מאוד אהבנו את ארוחת הבוקר שהייתה מגוונת והבריכה. המלון במרחק הליכה לים וממנו יצאנו לטייל באזור.

+ Bazen, i hrana su bili odlicni. Osoblje koje je radilo oko bazena i u baru a i generalno ostatak osoblja izuzetno komunikativan prijatan i veoma je bilo lepo komunicirati sa njima, zaista su nam ulepsali odmor svojim pristustvom. Vozac kojeg nam je hotel organizovao je bio izuzetno prijatan, profesionalan i pomogao na svaki nacin moguci.

- Nije mi se svidela vlasnica tj. zena koja je radila na recepciji. Ona je jedina u osoblju za koga imam primedbu. Komunikacija je bila izuzetno losa sa njom. 2 dana pre naseg odlaska, rekla je da prevoz do aerodroma prilikom povratka mora da organizuje ona, da ne organizujemo ni sa kim drugim i jos na sve to mora da joj se plati iako to nije bio deo dogovora. Imali smo osecaj kao da pokusava da nas natera da joj platimo na taj nacin i dobili smo taj nekli prevarantski utisak sa njene strane. Takodje, pretposlednji dan nam je rekla da treba da se prebacimo u drugu sobu. Rekla je da nam je to najavila prilikom naseg dolaska, medjutim niko od nas troje se ne seca da nam je ikada ista u vezi toga pomenula. Kada smo sledeci dan hteli da se prebacimo, onda je rekla da ipak ne moramo. Apsolutno nije imalo nikakvog smisla. Sem toga, engleski i razumevanje engleskog na konverzacionom nivou izuzetno nezadovoljavajuc za nekoga ko je vlasnik objekta koji je uvek pun turista.

+ Pool area and pool bar/restaurant were great, staff were extremely friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable, the food was excellent (thank you to the chefs!).

- The main hotel and rooms seem to be older and not well maintained, as per the images online. The air conditioning did not cool our first room adequately, because of the design of the two separate rooms with a single air conditioning did unit in only one of the rooms. After being moved to one larger room, the air conditioning worked perfectly. The bathroom was very small and the shower did not close completely (only two panels of glass on either side), meaning that the water could spray directly out of the shower and onto the floor. This made the floor completely soaked and slippery, which was dangerous. We had to request multiple sets of extra towels each time we used the shower. The wall mounted shampoo/body wash was broken/detached from the wall - although the bathroom was cleaned everyday, this was left and never addressed.

+ rooms were very spacious and always clean, pool area was amazing especially the sunbeds and pool bar! Drinks were 10/10

- only issue was lots of tiny ants in the room but i’m assuming that can’t be helped. Wasn’t a bother though

+ We had a wonderful stay at Socrates. A special shout out to Anna in reception and Despina around the pool and restaurant area. Both looked after us throughout and gave us all superb service with a smile! The pool restaurant food is excellent - some of the best we've had on holiday. Great location - in a quiet area but bars/restaurants are only a few minutes walk away. The pool area is lovely and there was never a problem getting a lounger - comfortable too! Pool towels are provided. Thanks to all!
