Hotel Tepalcates

+ The service was excellent. I had written prior to my stay with questions about different matters, and received prompt and helpful replies. While I was there, Tomás was always happy to answer any inquiries I had. The hotel was very clean, and I enjoyed the rooftop dining. While there was no pool, there are two jacuzzi tubs on the roof, which are covered to keep them (and you) protected from the sun. During my stay, the staff (all very pleasant) ran a bath for me (twice) and it was very enjoyable to have an outdoor soak. There was a coffee maker, a fridge and a microwave in the room, which was great, because I could make coffee in the morning, and keep a few things in the fridge.

- The Internet was terrible. I had the stand either inside the door of my room, or go out into the hallway to connect. Sometimes I went up to the roof, where the signal was better. Very awkward. For a couple of nights (I prefer to shower in the evenings), there was no hot water. Tomás allowed me to use the room across the hall to shower, but, again,very awkward. While the bed, and the small sofa in the room provided a place to sit, virtually every chair in the hotel was rock hard and so there was no comfortable place to sit. There was some kind a hammock chair in the balcony outside my room, which I’m sure no one had ever spent any time in because it was so awkward and uncomfortable. None of the balconies appeared to have any type of comfortable chairs (or anything else) where one could sit, rendering every balcony virtually unusable. It was impossible to make the room dark at night because, next to the bed, was a wardrobe with two windows, one on either side. Neither had a covering on it. I like my room dark at night as I find it difficult to sleep with light coming in. Again, very awkward.

- Kitchen utensils sparse. Food at restaurant mediocre.

+ New. Clean. Great staff! Big room/suite. Rooftop terrace. Good food.

- No elevador for heavy luggage No pool (hot/cold tub better than nothing.
