Surfing Wombats

Booked for three nights and ended up staying for three weeks, just like everyone else who fell in love with the Wombats vibe. The hostel offers plenty of space to truly connect with other travelers and regularly hosts social events. Location-wise, it’s perfect for surfing (Lazy Left, Lazy Right, and also close to other spots by tuk-tuk) and yoga. The staff is great, and Justin is especially attentive and funny - the best host one can wish for.

Stayed in the tent which was actually fine however have to use the restaurants toilet which can be hundreds of people so really gross. Would have extended if it wasn’t for the bathroom situation. Restaurant is very nice, good coffee , staff members etc Did struggle to meet some people but may be because I was in the tent.

Best experience in Sri Lanka! I stayed in the hostel for more than 2 weeks. The staff was amazing welcoming, funny and helpful and I could easily meet new people there. The accommodations are very cheap and most of the time I slept in the tend which was also ab very special experience in Sri Lanka. There are fans and at nights it’s cooling down very easily anyway. The pizza at the restaurant is crazy delicious and the best you can get in Sri Lanka.

Such a relaxing and welcoming vibe, a proper surf hostel without the surf lessons. The pizza and pasta are delicious. Several fun activities organised weekly, including a highly competitive table tennis tournament weekly. Midigama is the perfect chilled surf spot between Weligama and Ahangama. The dorms are hot though - no AC but plenty of fans. Only thing stopping it being a 10 was the drain smell near the dorms/tents.

Great place to meet people! Just quiet season right now in the south of Sri Lanka but they still host events. Nice place to hang out. Food was amazing though slightly more expensive. The dorm could really use a/c as I struggled to sleep.

I have never felt so welcome and at home in a hostel as I did at Surfing Wombats. Justin & Marta & the staff were amazing, the cutest dorm room, greaat atmosphere and the best food in the restaurant! planned to stay 2 nights, ended up staying there for 2 weeks! It's a must!

Great easy going and social hostel. You can walk to the surfspot. Pizza is yummy

Such a nice place with a beautiful outdoor area that invites guests and external guests to hang out and chat or play ping pong. Possibility to pay via PayPal. Hostel will be loud during events (ping pong tournament, open mic) which you will hear in your room but it will all be shut off by 11pm, I think. There are lots of spaces to escape if it is too loud for you, and you’ll get to see them all thanks to Justin’s welcome-tour around the facilities. Will defo revisit if I come back to Sri Lan...

"Good Location, but smells of mold” We spent one night in the tend option of this hostel. The location was great, and the hostel organized fun social events. The kitchen also served delicious food. However, the musty smell in the tend was unbearable and really took away from the experience. If they address the mold issue, this place could be much better.

Really happy with my time here, it was social but not too social and all the rooms were clean with double beds! I ended up extending here since it was so good!

Our stay at Wombats made our trip to Sri Lanka very special. First of all the staff is all super friendly and welcoming. Justin is an amazing host, instantly your best friend, made us feel home immediately. Him and the staff were also very attentive in anticipating our needs almost every time. We tried both the tent and the rooms, the rooms can easily get very hot so I’d personally recommend the tent, very spacious and cool during the night. As an italian, pizza and espresso passed the check!

Really nice hostel and a good place to meet friends for life. The surf spots around are also amazing, would deffo recommend!

We stayed in a quiet period but felt so welcomed by all the staff! Pizza is so goooood, will be back in high season 🤞🏼

Loved my stay at wombats. Staff were super helpful and met a lot of great people here. Such a vibe.

One of the best hostels I’ve stayed at mainly because of the staff and you feel right at home, extremely cozy vibes! The dorm room has no AC but you get fans that work great, also the beds are queen size ;) It’s definitely a very relaxed and chill place, but still clean well serviced. The hostel is together with a pizzeria which makes some amazing food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also have open mic on Tuesdays, great atmosphere!

Lovely and welcoming staff. Daily morning yoga classes. Delicious food. Perfectly situated for doing the Lazies night out and very close to the beach. Close to Weligama (I did a surfing lesson there). Only downsides were that there were quite a lot of flies around the property and that the dorm did not have air con, making it hard to get a good nights sleep.

Had such a great stay here, great location and really nice vibe, very sociable. Would defo stay here again!
