Mama Tungu Hostel

We cked in and right away we had a blast playing poker and lost and had to jump in the pool which was amazing !! Cannot stress enough to book a night because we extended twice , location is perfect !!! Not to say Banos isn’t great but this place has it all !! “ you can’t by time and peace “- Sebastian , what a legend 🫶

Super friendly staff, the manager Seb was super helpful with organising activities. Common areas were great, felt like a resort not a hostel and there was a super social vibe

We had the best time at Mama Tungu. The weather wasn’t on our side, so we couldn’t do all the tours, but Seb was brilliant, helpful, flexible and sorted us great rates, even finding us snorkels for the Galápagos. The staff are amazing and evening activities make it really social, but not a party hostel. It’s a little out of town, but near gorgeous waterfalls, and the food is so good we never needed dinner elsewhere. Thanks Mama Tungu!

From my experience traveling, I've never encountered a hostel with this level of service. The manager and reception will move mountains to make your stay worth it. I loved that I could book any activity I wanted to do in Banos from within the hostel, for cheaper than online at that. When you arrive, you get the manager's personal phone number which is a great personal touch. It's not in the center of Banos but it has everything you need — great food, activities, billiards, a bar, pool. Book it...

This is the place to stay in Banos, there is a great community feel. U can do all Banos has to offer from the hostel. I would highly recommend the rafting trip which you can book through the hostel for cheaper than online. The only downside is being slightly outside of town but u can get taxi for 3 dollars. If u visit make sure to contact the manager Seb who seemlessly organises everything u need, even taking broken phones to be fixed! Also the included breakfast is definitely worth it!!

First of all, this is one of the best hostels I’ve stayed at in South America. The place, the vibe, and the staff are all 10/10. While I was staying there, there was an incident, and the way the staf especially the manager, Sebastian (Seb) handled it was truly above and beyond. As a female traveler, I felt very safe here. I would definitely recommend this hostel and will absolutely stay again. I even extended my stay by two nights

It is difficult to express in words all that makes Mama Tungu the premier hostel in Baños, if not all of Ecuador. Mama Tungu exceeded my expectations. I planned a few days and ended up extending. The staff are amazing, the food is fresh and satisfying, and everything is super clean. It’s only a $2 taxi into town, so the location isn’t an issue. Great energy and really hard to leave

I've been to a lot of hostels over the last 16 years and this place is a true 10/10. Me and my parter initially booked two days and stayed 5, if it wasn't for the flight home i'm sure we would have stayed longer. To start lets talk about the staff, everyone at Mama T really makes sure you have everything you need. This place was rad! We messed up our booking and they were so cool about it and didn’t charge us any extra. Everyone who works there is super helpful and funny and they make booking plans super easy / cheap. They also call you a taxi from wherever you need which is SUPER helpful. Full restaurant and bar + happy hour. Really great place I’d book again for sure.

Super leuk hostel! Het is een beetje verder uit de stad maar daardoor ligt het wel in de natuur. Er is een leuke en sociale sfeer en alles was helemaal in orde!

I had a mixed stay here, I got bit by a dog near the hostel and the owner helped me get to the hospital which was super nice. The atmosphere was really low and not much happening at the bar in the evening, but the hottub is nice. The last night a friend of mine invited me to sleep in the extra bed they had on their private room, unfortunatly this was only possible if I paid 50 dollars for the night?! At the end I did not have to pay it but their policy is really strict and expensive on this �...

Amazing over and beyond staff! Thank you to Both the Canadian volunteer, and Carlos! Superkind manager Seb! Wifi is spotty/non existent in the dorms. You have to taxi to town which bothers some but you get a quieter stay outside the city noise! They let me switch from a very tall upper bunk (couldn’t sit up) to a lower bunk when it became available. Tons of external activities, staff have info on as well as first hand experience, giving you legit advice. Would return/recommend
