Possum Lodge

Possum lodge was a wonderful spot to stay a few nights. So peaceful and nice to walk along the shoreline of Lake Manapouri. As some have mentioned, there are sand flies. It’s just part of the experience. The lodge is well managed and put together. It is more like a campground, but I find it to add to the charm. Highly recommend.

I loved my stay at Possum Lodge, there was a great atmosphere there. The beds were comfy and the location is amazing right on the lake!

Es ist ein Campingplatz und kein primäres Hostel. Es gibt alles was man braucht, jedoch ist man aufgrund der Lage schon echt abgelegen, weshalb ich den Ort nur für ein Tag oder höchstens zwei empfehlen würde. Der Camping Platz liegt direkt am See, weshalb überall Mücken und andere Insekten sind

Possum lodge is a charming klondyke type place. We were there on high season and the kitchen was to small and not well equipped. We loved the outdoor fireplace. The dorm lacked lockers and everything you would expect in a dorm: nightlight, electrical sockets and privacy curtains for each bed.

Lovely staff and great location but we left early as the sandflies were unbearable, and the kitchen was way too small. It is more of a campsite than a hostel, with very little indoor area, which meant that getting away from the sandflies to relax in the evening was really hard. Our dorm room was also extremely cramped and smelt not great.

Basic cabins in dreamy lush garden location, right by the lake. Small and intimate. Henry is super helpful. A gem (if you don’t expect luxury but enjoy living in nature).

Nice place to stay off beaten tracks. Ideal for going on doubtfull sound tour. Nice staff arranged the tour for me even with discount!! And the pub next to is a nice place to grab food. I definetly would come back if i have the chance.

Such an awesome place! Still one of my favourite hostels!

beautiful location, beautiful lodge, you can see that the people who run this place really care. highly recommend!! you will definitely need a car. it's around 15 min from Te Anau.

Much more of a campsite than a hostel but served us on our stop off towards Milford Sound well enough.

Nice staff, super beautiful location. The dorms are really poor tho. Nothing to put your bags in, nothing next to bed to put your phone or glasses, just one big light so you can’t really read when someone else sleeps. Only one small kitchen for a lot of people so every night there is a queue to cook. Also just one little area to hang out for a lot of people, so it’s always full when the weather doesn’t allow to sit outside.

They're accommodating and responsive to my messages since we arrived late. It's a good spot for camping and staying over night if you want to drive the following day to Milford Sound.

Wunderschön gelegen. Wir hatten ein Zweibettzimmer. angenehm gross . Leider gab es wenig Sitzplätze zum Essen drinnen wenn es regnet oder einen die Sandflies überfallen.

I'll start by saying the staff we dealt with were extremely eager to help with great attitudes. Outside of this, our room was gross with stains down the walls, the room was entirely carpet that looked like it had been there for 40+ years and never cleaned once, and we genuinely were expecting bugs in the bed (didn't actually find any). The showers were cramped, dirty, and moldy. We are care free people and don't need much, but this place left us with heebie jeebies. Slept and left immediately.
