Room smelled like urine. No running water in the evening or night (no sink no toilet no shower) power went off at night as well so the fans in the room didn’t work. Is a 30min walk down the beach to get a there unless you pay for a boat. Not worth staying here, especially given the cost per night compared to anywhere else in Colombia beach is nice but better for a day trip.
I made our reservation 2 weeks before the trip. After traveling for hours on the road and then by boat we arrived to Freedom beach club only to found out they lost our reservation. We reserved a room with insuite bathroom and thy only had one without a bathroom. They refunded our money and because of the date being the 1st of January we spend the next 4 hours looking for a new place.
The bartender was awesome. She really made wonderful drinks. The property had a bar and a restaurant. I know some people mention that it is expensive but I found the accommodation, drinks and food to all be reasonably priced. I felt safe the entire time. I did not feel the place was clean at all. The food was not that good. There were tons of flies and cats everywhere. I had to ask for towels. I thought it would be handed to me at check in. No beach towels provided. Lots to improve upon.
I really enjoyed my stay here. If you’re looking to relax on the beach and have a nice enjoyable time I recommend. The staff here treat you like family and it’s such a warm and friendly atmosphere. The beach is amazing and the water is even better. As a solo backpacker I will be back in the near future.
Avoid Baru Island entirely if you want an authentic Colombian experience. The approach of 99% of vendors is to over-charge, scam, or do the bare minimum (and expect tips). There is nothing to do, limited food options and alcohol, and the journey to the island is long with roads littered with garbage. Unfortunately, wouldn’t visit the hostel or the island again, and highly recommend not visiting at all.
it's really a nice place for the view. But theres not much to do in the evening and if you want to eat in this area, it's really expensive.
