The place was good! I was only here for two nights, but I would recommend it or come back!
Oceans Guesthouse is a hidden gem bringing together amazing people from all walks of life. Originally booked for 2 nights, still here 3 weeks later! The common area is super social where people gather (Ocean often joins and drinks with us) before we head out to enjoy Seoul nightlife Clean and super friendly staff. Supermarkets &convenience stores are closeby. The Hapjoeng bus and train station is 10-15mins walk. HongDae shopping / nightlife's a 30min walk. Come as individuals, leave as ...
People are partying there the whole night and nobody cares. If you want to sleep you should go somewhere else.
The owner of the guesthouse is super nice and participates in the activities of hostel guests. I was writing in my travel journal and to make the atmosphere better, the owner turned on calming music. Even though this is a very social hostel, I could not hear any noise from my room. Also the location is great because the hostel is located in Hongdae.
When I forgot my phone in a taxi I had to ask the owner for help calling Uber. Thank goodness for the owner because he contacted Uber after staying on the phone for a long time and the driver ended up, dropping off my phone at the police station. I was so grateful to get my phone back. I enjoyed my stay here. The owner also had a pizza party on Halloween and bought pizza for everyone and chicken and drinks. Had a great time.
Really nice staff! I was allowed to check in 3 hours in advance. But sadly the bunk beds have no curtains. The kitchen and common area is pretty big.
Pretty small hostel but had some good staff and people would socialize in the small common room. I hear the owner would sometimes show up with food and drinks on the weekend to facilitate people socializing, which is very kind of him especially now that some people seem more shy. No good places to get work done or have virtual meetings, if that’s something you need to do (but it’s a hostel not an office so I won’t count that against them).
This is what a hostel should be. Friendly foreigners and like-minded travelers meeting together with a good host. I recommend it to any traveler passing through Seoul. I would stay there again, and I plan to do so :)
Barely ever anyone at reception, I had to find them on arrival. Very cold welcome just: here are the rules, here are your bed sheets, good luck have fun. The beds are comfortable enough but a basic bunk bed, no individual light/shelf/curtain/locker. No where really to put your things in the room. They give you 2 towels, both are small hand towels. However, I met fun and interesting people here and you probably will too! Priorities I suppose.
Great social experience, host and staff were great and there was cleaning every day. Hostel organised Korea BBQ, KTV and Korean chicken. The owner Ocean is very good and will help with in hostel drinking and getting the night started. All of the staff were lovely. Only thing is there’s not really anywhere to work quietly depending on the time of day.
Not a bad hostel in a really cute neighbourhood
Nice hostel, 10 min walk from station and really good if you're looking for a social place
The hostel has everything you need but the atmosphere is very cold and unwelcoming. Beds and rooms are clean, showers and bathrooms not so much.
Ocean is a very cool and laidback host. The hostel is very social so easy to meet people if you’re a solo traveler
Awesome vibes and great location. Jenna from the reception was super helpful and nice:)
You need about 15mins to the Metro and Hongae is about 30min away. The staff is friendly. However, they used every centimetre within the hostel for beds and other appliances. The rooms are extremely stuffed and also showers and bathrooms are so tight that you have to squeeze in. There are no lockers for your valuables and also a lot of people who don’t respect the sleep of others. Beds don’t have curtains so not too much privacy. People are very social there!
Great spot and experience! Everyone was welcoming and I was able to make a lot of friends/memories. The common area is well situated to promote interactions every night.
the manager was a rude chap with 00 respect for others. I paid for 33 nights and I had to leave after 22 as someone else put something on my bed which left soem mark!
Te veel mensen op een kamer. Geen plek om je spullen te laten. Heel onrustig.
The dorms are bunk beds with no curtains, there was little space in the room and my bunk didn’t have access to a plug socket. There were three snorers and one of the sleep talked/walked the night I stayed (strongly recommend ear plugs/eye mask in these rooms). Although there are multiple cubicles for showers/toilets, they are very cramped but clean and water pressure/temp was lovely. There’s a kitchen/common area to utilise, I think for a short stay this accommodation is okay.
