honestly guys.. the location is solid. but there are bed bugs and when I approached the dude at the reception about them.. he said there's nothing he can do, that all the beds have them and I have a choice "to be a man" and sleep in that bed and then began giving a hypothetical allegory comparing the situation to if I had a daughter on the other side of the world I needed to see. it was absolutely ridiculous but it's cheapest in London and everyone else was chill. free tea

Rooms infested with bed bugs and suchlike vermin. I experienced dozens of bites - had little sleep, was given an antihistamine tablet the following morning and suggested to move bunks within the same dorm which was pointless as others had a, similar experience. Hostel looks run down and in need of a thorough "deep clean" & upgrade re quality & hygiene of toilet & shower facilities. Bunks : neither privacy curtauns, nor reading lights e.g. c/w charging points. Overall: worse than in mid 2024.

I have been travelling Europe for the past six months, booking the cheapest hostels at almost every single country i went to and somehow phoenix hostel has taken the title of the worst hostel I have ever been to. I have bed bug bites all over my body, there was blood on the wall next to my bed and blood in the bathroom, human faeces on the bathroom floor and a whole ecosystem of mould in the bathrooms. Terrible vibes, felt so unsafe, came close to leaving without a refund. some nice staff though.

My beds was full of bed bugs 🐛. I ask for a refund but they said the booking was a nonrefundable booking, but I explained that if the beds are full of bed 🐛bugs it was not my fault that I can't sleep on the bed full of bed bugs . Thay did not do anything. I lost my £ 107. Do not stay in this hostel. Its full of bed bugs 🐛. There are much better hostel for this price.

When I arrived it there were like 15 old men in the lobby and it was very dirty and grimy. I didn’t feel very safe but my bed didn’t have any bed bugs despite other reviews. If you’re really trying to save money then it is cheap but I would so much have rather paid a bit extra and gone somewhere nicer. Fire alarm also went off at 3am.

My stay was mostly okay. It is really not the cleanest so be prepared for that. Furthermore they had bed bugs which I sadly only realised once I had already been bitten multiple times. I hope they are able to get rid of them.

There are BEDBUGS. I would not recommend to come here. I stayed here with a friend and we felt very unsafe when in the bar and hostel. The bathrooms are filthy and our room had a very bad odor. Most staff was nice but that does not make up for the cleanliness problems. The bedbugs are unforgivable, avoid this place like the plague.

JUST AVOID. The place is GROSS and OVERPRICED. It seems like a jail. I found dirt, bedbugs, nails and mold under my bed. The vibe SUCKS. Only strange +35 men, they didn’t seem like travelers but people in difficult situations (that’s a shame but not the kind of place to be if you’re on vacation).

Wish I'd paid more attention to reviews before booking, I spent the night trying to see if it would be possible to book anywhere else in London last minute. The bathrooms were being cleaned by guests, the rooms were filthy and yes definitely had bedbugs, super cramped and I was very uncomfortable by the fact that the staff were sleeping in the same room and using the only available socket to watch TV late into the night. Don't stay here lol. I ended up leaving about as soon as i got there and slept at the airport instead! (Glad I did - I met another girl my age who stayed the night, she later texted me she left with a fever and bed bug bites). This is the only hostel I felt uneasy about leaving my belongings at. Plus, some dudes hanging outside were a bit creepy. My fault for not reading up on these reviews before hand. Only plus i can give is that the staff was friendly

I was a bit hesitant to book after reading some of the Google reviews about bed bugs, but I decided to give it a chance — and it was actually okay. The 18 bed room has two awkward doors to get in with a code that wakes you up everytime at night, once you enter there's 3 layer bunk beds that feels like they are about to fall down. It makes a lot of noice. You have to choose your own bed and stick a paper to it so other know is taken, people don't respect this at all and it's a mess to understand which bed is taken or not. Beds were not clean at all. We got bedbugs bites after that one night. Prefer to go to the airport than sleeping there.

We couldn’t charge our phones cause there were just two plugs in a 7 beds- room. The spaces were dirty and there were blood stains on the sheets. Strange and creepy people hang around the hostel and the reception. In addition to this, I came home with lots of bites from bed bugs that we saw in the room.

DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! Very unclean, unsanitary and bathrooms were disgusting. I overheard other guests making a complaint about bed bugs which left me very anxious that night. Thankfully there were none in my room, but I seen the bites on the other guests hands. Very loud , slamming door at night also. Bedroom got very hot at night. The location is good, but I will not be back.

The staff were so lovely. It felt very understaffed. It was clear it hasn’t been deep cleaned in a long time and it felt like the place has painted over mould. Nothing bad happened here to me, no bed bugs or stuff being stolen but I’m glad that I only stayed one night and I won’t be back

The place is quite dirty and slightly falling apart. The bathrooms are quite small for the most part and have a lot of mould, sandals are a must for showering here. My first bed had bedbugs as did the replacement room so I had a terrible sleep. Would not recommend staying here unless you are prepared to sleep with bugs.

BED BUGS!!! My feet, legs, and back were covered in bites. I told the front desk and decided to leave. I asked only for a refund for the two days I had left because I could not stay. They only gave one day. I probably should have gotten at least a partial refund for the whole thing because I broke out in hives and had to panic wash everything including my backpack. There are other things to complain about but there's no point until the bed bugs are fixed. STAY AWAY!!!

The Phoenix’s strong points are its price, friendly & responsive staff, and easy access to rail stations. As far as accommodations, this is a case of “you get what you pay for.” The bathrooms are kind of nasty (bring flip flops for the showers) but if you’re not a germaphobe you’ll be fine. The linens felt good and clean. Others have mentioned bedbugs but we didn’t experience that. Overall it was a great deal for a couple nights’ stay, but I wouldn’t want to stay there much longer than that.

Bedbugs, they let in a clearly schizophrenic woman to the women’s dorms. You’re not allowed in the common area before 6 which was weird and disruptive for me. I was worried about the woman and the bedbugs in the room and wanted to come downstairs to find a new hostel. I will say the staff was very friendly. It wasn’t worth it though, they let anyone in even people who are obviously erratic and unwell. Plus they have bedbugs and it’s extremely stuffy in the room at night. Left early got no refund

No bed bugs, although that was a problem in the past. Great stay. Good position. Buses from Marylebone (453) take you to Oxford Circus and beyond. Excellent value. Cleanliness is next to godliness, although not bad at all. Keep it up!!!

When staying at hostels I never expect a super fancy place, specially when you are paying 15-18 pounds a night in London, but the (un)cleanliness of the place got with me. Other people in my room complained about bed bugs, the room had no ventilation and it smelled like ass permanently. Staff wasn't bad, but not super nice either and bathrooms were really mouldy. For the price and it's great location it's ok, but its far from being a hostel I will remember as good.

This place has bedbugs☹️ I have had them before so I know what the bites feel and look like. My whole body from behind my ear to my toe has bites scattered across. I sent an email to request a refund and have not heard back from Phoenix. This ruined my London trip. The only good I can say is that they have hot water 😭

At first we tought it was going to be ruff for those prices but that we could make it. Result : we had to sleep at unkown British people. The smell was horrible, people are weird, the mood is so awkward, there are bedbugs, no light, the floor is gross, everything is rotten or moldy. Some windows are broken and others can’t open. We don’t recommend, it’s not worth it even for 15£ per night.

It is a really cheap hostel but it is terribly dirty, they were bed bugs everywhere and all the facilities are really old. Staff is kind, however I would not advise to stay because of those inconveniences

BED BUGS !! I don’t recommend. I have been bitten by bed bugs like 20 bites in few days. Had to negotiate with the boss by text (wouldn’t take me on the phone !!) and I couldn’t even have proper refund.

the staff are great and I believe the owner means well. however the problem stands: it's riddled with bedbugs and it smells bad. This review doesn't come from a place of malice, it's simply the truth. it's the cheapest place in London , and I understand it's expensive to upkeep. I don't have the logistical answer for how to fix the cleanliness issue, but until it does get fixed, I'll have to implore people not to go. this is primarily due to the bed bugs.

Pros: friendly staff, not too far from the city center. Cons: it claims to be an award winning hostel but I’m not sure what it won, except maybe the award for most broken showers in one building? The bathrooms and lounge area were very dirty, although I did see staff cleaning regularly. It could just be that the guests were slobs. Overall, if you’re not squeamish, it’s probably an ok place for you. But if you like things decently clean, stay away. Far away. Possibly has bed bugs too.

Dint even go myself but others (who were blocked my the hostel apparently) reported bedbugs and just homeless people. While I was there to check on it did appear that I would share my room with a homeless person. There were also 4 lockers for 7 beds, of which one had the matress removed..

Hygiene is umberable : bedbugs, mold everywhere in the shower, rotten wood windows, loosening floor, funny smells. Honestly we were scared of catching a disease. No joke. Absolutely not secured : a totaly drunk women managed to enter the hostel and was screaming and hitting on the dorms doors in order to get in, in the middle of the night. It was horrifying. I would never come back again, even if it’s very cheap.

We stayed one night and recognized bedbugs, thats why we canceled for the second night and moved on. The stuff was nice but still, the bedbugs are a huge problem and the Hygiene in general.

I recently stayed at Phoenix Hostel and was deeply disappointed. I found a crack pipe in the bathroom and later discovered bed bugs in my room. This forced me to find private accommodations and incur unexpected expenses. Despite requesting a refund, I received no resolution. Hostels should help with such expenses. This experience was incredibly disappointing, and I hope the hostel improves its customer service.

It was my worst experience ever. The bed was sooo dirty. Also I heard that there were bedbugs but I actually witnessed them. The washroom was so so bad. It was nothing but a nightmare. I will pay double to any other place and avoid this place.

Staff was nice but the whole facility is very outdated. Also there were incidents each night I stayed there where crazy people staying in the room yelled and woke others up because they have no self control. One guy kicked the door and broke it, and the place is covered in bed bugs. I am covered head to toe in bites. It’s filthy everywhere, all the showers and decent WC are upstairs.

zou and angel were nice staff!! and when i checked in, i can get flexible solutions from the staff or owner.but thefacility including floor must be cleaned even cleaner😥😥 fortunately there was no bedbug when i was in there different from other review. the shower room is big so if u have your own clean hotel slipper, you can shower in fresh feeling. but no hair dryer :( location is good and have a reasonable price store near the hostel

This hostel is infested with bedbugs. They have been dealing with this problem since at least 2022 (based on old reviews) and they still have not resolved the issue. Avoid avoid avoid as they put your life and health in danger

Worst hostel experience i’ve ever had. I would never return and would advise everyone against it. I was harassed by a guest and felt very unsafe. there was also bed bugs and the fascilities were beyond disgusting.

Location was great, right next to station. Felt safe and was a nice vibe. Although, the bathrooms were quite unclean and unfortunately at the time i stayed there were bed bugs.
