The crossing lodge was very convenient for the alpine tongariro crossing. Facilities were very good but just be aware that there are no staff on site .
I would not recommend staying at the Crossing Lodge - we experienced a severe security issue. The door system failed so we could not enter and we could not reach staff for help despite contacting their WhatsApp and trying the emergency number (no staff onsite). We only accessed our accommodation thanks to the kindness of other guests who had been given the master key which meant our room was not secure and we could not leave it empty. The experience was highly stressful and we felt very unsafe.
We booked a private four bed room. Overall a very nice hostel! They gave good instructions for the check-in and everything went very smoothly. Highly recommend if you think about doing a hike in the Tongariro region (which is what my friends and I did). Enough parking space as well!
Overall, this was a lovely place to stay 10 mins from the national park, comfy beds and huge kitchen and everything was clean. The no staff was a bit weird and it did feel very empty and quiet when I was there but that’s just personal
My only issue was the noise from the kitchen in room 21. The lovely manager did explain that he had put sound proofing in but unfortunately it didn’t work. However, would I stay again? Most definitely. 😊
Too much noise
Love how warm the rooms & lounge is!
The place was great! Easy to check into and the room was clean and warm. It felt a bit crowded with lots of kids running around. I had to take a call in the lobby because the wifi in my room wasn't strong enough to sustain a connection. One of the people from the rooms connected to the lobby came out and interrupted me and told me to be quiet even though it was before quiet hours. But other than that the stay was great and accommodations were easy to set up!
Excellent hostel, with great facilities - was also very clean would highly recommend!!! :) Only downfall was the heating- was very hot in the rooms and we were unable to turn it down
The bed is very uncomfortable. Anyone can arrive even at 1am and everyone will wake up. The place is clean though. Value for money is acceptable.
Was a nice enough place, but low rating because they advertised a spa pool but it wasn't available. Definition of false advertising.
Well situated for entering the Tongariro National Park. It's well organised and fairly clean. The place looks and feels like a school gym from the 1970s, though. Rooms and all facilities are old if not ancient. Despite some people being there it had no great hostel vibe. Beds are good. It's OK for 1-2 nights but I would not recommend it for longer. Also, it is very remote. Bringing your own car is a must!
Really disappointed. Spa pool, drying room and pool table all didn’t work and seemingly hadn’t for months. Fires had no dry wood, kindling or lighters. Central heating was broken. No one answered the phone when we called repeatedly to ask if we were able to get kindling.
Budget lodge accommodation. We had a twin room with bunks which was extremely small with just a chair and heater. The fire was nice in the dining room but the one in the games/TV room didn't heat the room so there should have been a heater. There were no firestarters to start the fire in the morning so had to borrow from neighbour. Advertised with a spa pool but it wasn't working and hadn't been for quite some time - that should have been removed from the advertising as it is quite a draw card.
