Hostel Highlander

This hostel stands out as one of the best stay in this mountain town thanks to its friendly and welcoming staff, comfortable and well-kept rooms and warm, homey atmosphere. Special thanks to the sweetest and nicest Jelena, who so willingly helped me with everything I needed. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a comfortable, friendly and memorable stay!

The hostel is in an excellent location, right in the city center. The rooms are very warm and clean, which made my stay comfortable. However, what I appreciated the most was the incredibly supportive and helpful host. I had a problem with my car battery, and he went out of his way to find a mechanic and connect me with someone who could fix it quickly. Also, his mother is a wonderful lady who welcomed me with coffee and homemade cakes, which made me feel truly at home.

Amazing stay! Superb location, clean like farmacy, warm and cozy. And the tru gem was (not soo old) lady that gave her best to make my stay soo comfortable- fresh towels, and even welcome tea and coffee. They prepared me with valuable information about what to see and where to go, followed by some important safety information. Will repeat my stay in Highlander, for sure! Nice cozy hostel. Cheap and best

I was discriminated against by an old lady staff member for no reason(I’m Polish). I was friendly with other travelers, but she treated me differently: I had to ask twice for a towel, there was no toilet paper or soap until new guests arrived, my bed wasn’t made while others’ were, and other guests were upgraded room while I wasn’t. On checkout day, she came into my room at 9 am telling me to leave, even though checkout was 10 am. I felt unfairly treated. She was unpleasant to me

Mattresses were really thin and the bunk beds were extremely creaky. The dorm I stayed in was right under the owners apartment and they were up at 0430 talking and scraping chairs! Not a good nights sleep - I moved to another apartment in the area. Shame as lots of potential but needs to upgrade beds for sure.

Super friendly staff and met great people throughout my stay! I would recommend this hostel to anyone whos looking to enjoy hiking.

Dorp is zelf niets te doen. Iedereen komt dan ook voor de andere activiteiten rondom het dorp. Personeel was super lief, vooral de oudere dame. De sfeer is prima, na het hiken/raften even eten en een biertje doen en op tijd naar bed. Het is een schone plek en dat vind ik altijd wel belangrijk.

Great place to stay. It's a very social place. The shared areas are great to hang out.

Établissement bien placé et accueil très chaleureux. Cependant, les lits sont assez inconfortables et les installations sont limitées dans les salles de bain (ex. peu de crochets ou d'espaces pour laisser des effets personnels lorsqu'on prend une douche).

Bunk bed was so shaky I genuinely thought it might break and crush the person below. Bathrooms had no soap and only occasionally had toilet paper. Checkout was at 10am yet staff interrupted my breakfast at 9 to make me pack up so they could clean. There are no lockers either. Also electrical cables hanging out of the walls (possible a death cable if it’s powered - I wasn’t about to test). Washing is €10 which is the most I’ve encountered even through Western Europe.

vielen dank für diese schönen tage! die gastgeber waren sehr herzlich und hilfsbereit, unsere wanderung wurde für uns organisiert und wir mussten nur morgens im auto steigen im zum anfangspunkt der wanderung zu gelangen. durch die kleine größe des hostels ist die stimmung sehr willkommend und intim. auch die anderen reisenden waren toll! ich hab mich sehr wohl gefühlt und würde jedem dieses kleine und günstige hostel empfehlen.

Had a great time here. Felt like adult summer camp. The hostel holds about 10 people total, so the group you have really matters. My group hung out all day and did all the hikes together. Bathrooms could use some work. The owner is never around. No security whatsoever, but I never felt unsafe. All this leads to feeling way more independent, but would be annoying if you actually had a problem.

Good hostel

Wir waren im August dort und waren vollkommen zufrieden! Das Haus ist sehr gemütlich und der Besitzer, sowie seine Mutter sind sehr nett. Insgesamt können wir das Hostel sehr weiterempfehlen! 😊

Is super close to the bus station and some good restaurants and bars. The hosts are very very nice and always giving you advice about what and when to do hiking. Also they are very honest

This is an amazing place to stay. The hosts are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful and even suggested some hikes for us to try. A fabulous hostel

For the cost per night this hostel does not deliver. The beds are uncomfortable (could feels the springs in my back). There is no social vibe at all. At one point hosting a school camp full of children. You cannot use the communal kitchen because it is always in use by the family who live there or school camp. Not every bed had plugs by the bed and the plugs that were there didn’t look safe. My friend had her breakfast stolen out of the fridge. I did not feel like a guest but an inconvenience

Very cheap and nice place to stay. The couchs, the bathrooms and thé kitchen are really good.

Clean rooms, female dorm was good though a little bit small. Kitchen area was small but very useable, great to meet other travellers. Great location (walking distance from supermarket and black lake). Host was great and provided suggestions of places to see
