Good location close to centre and the quays but very outdated and run down. Doesn’t offer anything socially. Didn’t answer the phone or call me back and there wasn’t anyone on the desk until 3:30 so we couldn’t leave bags until check in. Bed was comfy enough but the one pillow was rubbish and we had to make them ourselves. If you need a cheap bed for the night and shower in the morning it’s fine but nothing more than that.
Having read a few other reviews I must admit I wondered what I had booked. Well after 50+ years hostelling I was happy with my stay there, the bed really comfortable, access was good. People staying there very easygoing and staff great. OK so maybe a few things could be sharpened up, but for Heaven's sake it's a good basic practical hostel. If you don't like cleaning up, then take your staff with you. Or get a hotel room, or take your Mummy.
There should be an investigation into this hostel and its level of uncleanliness. The fridges were full of food of which smell off. There was dirt on every floor. The bed aswell. Thought someone was still sleeping there. There was stains in the mattress. Always smells like weed and mold. Some showers don't have a light in them and they're dirty. Lounge room is covered in dirt as well. Couldn't talk to the staff. Doorbell didn't work. Had to get let in by someone. Found staff hidden in office .
Great location, minimal staff interactions, Very Dirty Kitchen. The place isn’t unkempt, meaning the carpet has been vacuumed, but the carpet is old & gross. The was a kettle in our room, but the kettle interior was dirty, hadn’t been rinsed in a long time. The bathroom is grimy and needs a scrubbing. The entire place could use a disinfection, especially after the vomit that hit the floor in the room next to us, which unfortunately was audible due to the walls being so thin.
Whenever I come to Exeter for lectures I stay overnight at the Globe Backpackers. The location is perfect ,close to my venue and City centre pre lecture shopping. The staff while checking in are extremely helpful and welcoming. My stay is always relaxing and restful and sets me up for the following day’s activities and return journey.I’m very happy with all the facilities provided.
They did not let me in because I arrived in Exeter after 10 pm. Clearly, the last check in is at 7 pm, but the reviews in google maps are allarming. So, I dogded a bullet, this hostel should be shut down and manager be liable.
Disgusting cleanliness. No staff from 6pm to 7am. Appears to be homeless people living there. Dorty bed linen. Avoid.
Nice place to rest, after day exploring Exeter.
Filthy dirty, poorly maintained, sketchy vibe......would not recommend!
This is not a hostel for travelers. DO NOT STAY HERE. This hostel is used by the city to house homeless people, and there are no staff on site outside of the few reception hours to monitor behavior. We felt so unsafe, even with a private room, that we left in the night to find a hotel. The private room lock was not secure and would unlock itself. I normally travel solo, but this time I had my boyfriend with me, and it is still the most unsafe I have ever felt in a hostel.
Nice people. Bring layers The pros: Lovely staff Huge rooms Relaxed atmosphere Short walk from quay and town The cons: Cold - on a sunny day in late September I found myself wishing I'd brought winter socks. The single pane sash windows have a visible gap so cold air gets in very easily A little dirty - not awful but I wouldn't go barefoot No soap or hand towel in the W/C The shower rooms lock but you can turn it from the outside Rooms at the front are right above a busy road so n...
Weird vibes, very dirty and over priced… this was a last minute booking for me, and I was not happy with my 1 night stay. Guests and vibes are totally off… I think they’ll let anyone stay here. Kitchen was filthy. Toilets smell of cigarettes and have no soap. Showers have warped floors. My room was dirty, everything was stained, kettle even had mucky water in it and black mould on the element. Staff were deadpan and uncaring. Lock on door was dodgy.. DONT LOOK UNDER THE BED!!
Well, staying at hostels always has some delights and some 'lesser delights' – and Exeter is definitely on the lesser side. The facility itself is well very situated within the city, but the immediate area is not so nice. Also, the building is quite old and fairly run down – but still service-able. It gets the job done and meets immediate needs. The staff is friendly and 'does what it can' with the facilities as they are. Overall I think it is priced right to low, for what it offers a 'barga...
Amazing location, right in the heart of Exeter. Historical building
Kitchen and toilet filthy, I didn't dare peek into the shower. In the toilet, towel rack/heater falling off the wall, toilet seat held on by one bolt & very wobbly. Urine on the seat often. Sink disgusting. I ventured into the kitchen once and didn't go back & certainly not sanitary to cook. Stairway filthy. Room itself was ok, except not well swept (hair on the floor etc.) I was glad to leave!
Good place to stay for several nights: situated in lovely area, close enough to most of attractions, also has a 24-hurs working grocery nearby.
War okay für eine Nacht 🙃.
Brilliant manager Paul was very welcoming, helpful and went out of his way to ensure everything was good. Thank you Paul for your hospitality.
Great hostel.
