Pension Puppy Tail

Staff was super nice and accommodating! Great value! Location is pretty great for exploring Hakodate. The room was cozy. Their cat, Shimonosuke was also very cuddly and friendly! :)

Lovely hostel with really friendly staff

I loved my stay at the Pension Puppy Tail! The location was perfect, ~ an 8 min walk from the bus/train station and close to a lot of restaurants. The owners were so incredibly kind and caring, I felt very welcome and at home. They gave me a little goody bag of snacks when I left, and even drove me to the train station when I checked out! Very generous. The rooms were comfy and each had their own heater, so you could adjust it to your liking. All in all I had a fantastic stay and will be back!

Loved our stay here and wish we were in Hakodate a bit longer to enjoy it. It was very cosy, and the staff very accommodating—even helping us to get to the station when the snow was heavy! 😀

Really friendly and helpful staff. Clean rooms and the beds were comfy. Location was ideal and really thoroughly communicated from the hostel which was appreciated. Great value and would recommend for sure.

Hele lieve medewerkers, maar het was ene beetje stoffig en zag er oud uit qua interieur. Ik kon in de badkamer maar net staan maar ben wel lang. Verder is een het prima locatie gelegen voor de attracties van de stad, de restaurants en dichtbij het station

Very traditional washroom and the owner is a very sweet man who made me feel more than welcome to be there. Him and the staff have hearts of gold and were nothing but exceptionally kind to me. If you go to Hakodate this is a wonderful place to get a room. It was also conveniently close to the JR station.

Great location less than 10 minutes walk to the bus and train station. Owner was very friendly and approachable and contactable over email. Very spacious Japanese style room with futon beds, fridge, kettle and sitting area. Snack bag given upon departure was very thoughtful. They do have two cats that we saw a couple of times in the reception area but never on the upstairs floor where the rooms are. Would highly recommend this place.

Incredibly accommodating

Wonderful staff. Nice goodie bag on departure. Shower room is like an onsen. Room had fridge, kettle etc Great communication. Kept our bikes safe in a locked garage. Beds super comfy. Heater in room on a cold night. Good restaurants around. Looks dated but don't be put off. You'll feel really welcome and comfy.

Lovely people and a short walk from the station. If you like maximalism, you will love the doilies, faux flowers, and obis decorating EVERYTHING. Staff was very kind and I even got a little goodie bag of treats when I checked out! My only small complaint is that it smelled a bit musty, sort of like… cat litter? But other than that, it was great.

What a wonderful place to stay, the family is very friendly, helpful and kind. i stayed two nights and would recommend it to anyone who wanted a more intimate connection to a place besides feeling like a commuter in a business hotel or backpacker hostel. My room was nice a cozy and comfortable as well as quiet. Close to JR station and they communicate with excellently prior to your arrival so you know where you are going.

Location is only a short walk from Hakodate Station and there is an area with several restaurants nearby. The staff were very friendly and even gave me a complimentary upgrade without asking. The room was traditional Japanese style with a futon, a small table and chair. The futon was very comfy and there were plenty of blankets to keep warm. When checking out, they also gave me a goodie bag with a bunch of Japanese snacks. If I’m ever back in Hakodate, I would stay here again.
