Das Hostel ist gut. Mehr braucht man nicht sagen, andere Bewertungen sprechen für sich. Aber was wirklich herausragend ist, ist der Gastgeber Shaq. Dieser Mann ist einfach eine Wucht und man kann ihn nur lieben. Alleine wegen ihm würde ich vermutlich das Hostel immer wieder günstigeren und "besseren" in Kanazawa vorziehen!!
Highly recommend this hostel if you’re looking for a fun vibe. If Shaq suggests you should go to a rave with him make sure you accept that offer

+ Shaq's house feels like a family house. He is also a really chill guy. You can just go donwstairs to the bar and talk with him and the other guests. The beds are really confortable, but they only have half curtains. Everything was clean. The location is pretty central, but some places are a bit of a walk, but I didn't find it bothering. There are also bus close by that can take you everywhere.
- The commun spaces were a bit cold, but during winter in Japan, it's to be expected.

It's hard to express how great Shaq's is. He is the best host and will treat you like family. I had such great fun here and it feels like home. Thank you, Shaq!

- No places to hang/put your stuff when showering or brushig teeth. There was a guy in the bunk next to me who was clearly sick and kept coughinf snd sneezing and snotting everywhere and in his hands without sanitizing or washing hands after. The whole room felt filled wirh his bscteria particles and i was so afraid of gertinf sick because of it and ruin my trip. It made me not enjoy my stay at all. Also the smallest noise in the room made the biggest sounds so if one person was just moving around in his bed or looking into his bags, it would be a nuisance
The hosts name is Shaq and this is his big house. The man is a legend and an incredibly kind host who if he likes your vibes will take you out to party. Overall Shaq’s big house was one of my favourite hostel experiences. It’s tight knit with 12 guests max (I think) close to all the major sights to see in Kanazawa. The bar is a great place to hangout meet locals, the host, and of course your fellow backpackers.

When you read the reviews you find it hard to believe that the man, the myth, the legend that is Shaq could possibly live it up to the hype. Well you better believe it baby. Everything was clean, the guests were all a vibe (even midweek) and Shaq’s snacks were tasty as hell. The hostel was in such a good location I found myself regularly walking back past it to get to the next thing on my list. Easily my favourite hostel in Japan. + The hosts were simply fantastic - they spoke English and very helpful.
+ It was a very good accomodation. I loved it. The caretaker is very friendly and receptive. I would recommend it to my friends.

Shaq Bighouse, by far, was the best experience I've ever had hostel-wise. Shaq-san is the owner of the place, and is one of the most energetic, outgoing, kind, and down-to-earth people I have ever met. He has lived a crazy life and it was genuinely fun hearing all of his stories about his travels and the experiences he's had. The hostel was very clean. It was nice that downstairs is also an Izakaya. Shaq makes a delicious karaage, too. Thank you, Shaq-san!
