Good place, strategically located very close to the bus station. The host is very hospitable, warm and willing to help with any questions you have. Walked me to the bus station twice, first to help me book the bus ticket and then to say goodbye. Simply the best, I warmly recommend.
We went for a one-night stay at GINTSUKA Hostel. The host, and owner, Mangsi, was incredibly hospitable and very welcoming! He took us out for dinner, and later a cup of coffee, he’s a good man. He later helped with transportation to the airport. A good stopover before going to the airport!:)
Very good location. Super helpful staff especially in regards to catching a bus. However just a bit of a dodgy area and very loud.
Did not feel safe there, or in the surrounding area. The bolt on the door was also defect, which resulted in me being looked in my room for quite sometime, unable to get out. Did though finally managed to get it up on my own. Was not a fun experience. The room was very warm, even more than the outside temperature, and it was VERY noisy, with a lot of traffic just outside. The windows did not block any of the noice out at all. Bed was very hard, and the shower not working.
Mawan and his sister are very sweet and interested hosts. Mawan is very helpful and attentive. As a female solo traveller I felt safe and looked after. Hostel is more like a homestay. Bathroom has western toilet and shower but no sink. You'll need your own towels and soap. Everything is quite old but clean. I can recommend a room with A/C. The only thing really annoying is the very loud roads/highway right in front which you can hear any place in the house. You'll need plugs to sleep.
I was welcomed by a friendly smile, shown a good local cafe and was helped in the morning to get my bus to the airport. It is a safe, clean hostel and room had a fan. Downside was the early morning music and noise from the traffic. But otherwise good stay! Thank you.
Stayed in this hostel for 2 nights and explored Medan. It’s quite far from the centre but it’s easy to get a minibus or gojek into the centre so the location isn’t a problem. And if you’re just passing through it’s perfect. Room had everything I needed and Mawan, the host, is super kind and helpful; he made me feel very welcome and looked after throughout my stay. He is also an expert in helping you with onward travel. Thank you Mawan!
Amazingly friendly and helpful staff. The owner of the hostel walked me to the public bus stop and showed me the right bus to the bus station and told the driver to show me my next bus to Bukit lawang. Everything went well thanks for the owner 🙏
Great spot to stop at in medan before you travel the rest of sumatra. The owner was super helpful with using the buses, getting a sim, he showed me around the city a bit, where to get good food for cheap, where a nice internet cafe was, where the good atms are. He made it super easy for me to get to bukit lawang by public bus and showed me how to get around from there to the other locations i wanted to visit (berastagi and toba). The room is simple but it’s all you need for a short stay
This was the hottest room I’ve ever stayed in. Very warm and noisy, so it was really hard to sleep. It was a clean space though and Dermawan went out of his way to make sure I was safe and helped me with the local buses and getting around. Thank you!
A great budget hostel close to the airport bus line. Our host was so helpful (helped direct us to restaurants and sim card places) and the private rooms had strong fans and firm beds! I did wish they had a sink though.
