Vidigal Hostel

Auberge mimi dans la favela de Vidigal. Quartier très safe mais seul les moto taxis autorisées peuvent se déplacer dans la favela pour en sortir il faut donc prendre un autre transport. Sinon personnels très sympa parlant que portugais pour la plupart. On a eu l'occasion d'aller à une soirée avec eux à Rocinha.

vue magnifique depuis l'hostel sur Ipanema. dans la favela de vidigal qui est très safe et l'hostel se trouve un peu haut mais ça reste accessible à pied depuis le bas de la favela

No response on day of check-in (nor since..) even though booking was made weeks in advance, so had to find an alternative

I loved my stay here! The view is one of the best ones, the staff was incredibly nice, everything was perfect. Bear in mind you have to make a steep walk up and down every time, but tbh this was never an issue to me. The hostel ran out of water during the last 3 days of my stay, but this is a recurring problem in the favela and not their fault. They stopped receiving guests to prioritise the volunteers, which I think speaks really good of them. Thank you a looooot💞

This place is amazing ! The staff is great, we really feel at home. Dorms are great, same for the shower ! Localisation is good too. I really had fun there and I m sad to leave ! Thank you so much

Uma das atmosferas mais legais que já experenciei em hostels. O staff é muito legal e, somado com a vista incrível do hostel, faz com que a vibe do lugar seja ótima. O acesso ao hostel é por mototaxi, achei super tranquilo, mesmo sendo minha primeira vez, e me senti super segura no vidigal. They are almost a thousand meters uphill, you can only go up on motorcycles from the nose that go at full speed. The uber or taxis do not arrive, they do not have coverage in that area. Neither the mail nor the phone are real, that's why they don't provide the information. What is advertised about this hostel is not totally true, please pay attention to this. This is in a Favela and it is a pain to go up and down. The people working at this hostel when I stayed were ok and the property ran out of water, toilets were clogged. I had to leave mid stay and they never refunded me. Stay away from this place.

The staff here were absolutely lovely and the hostel itself once within the walls felt ok in terms of safety. The views overlooking Rio are stunning. However, it should be clearer to travellers that it is located in a favela and taxis will not take you up the hill to the door of the hostel. You have to take a moto taxi the rest of the way which isn’t safe for solo female travellers. I changed hostels upon arrival purely because of this.

The hostel doesn’t align with what it being advertised. There is no coffee or breakfast. It is a pain in the butt to get up to the hostel. Each time you need to take a scooter up there. No Uber will go up the hill. The rooms are claustrophobic and uncomfortable with no electric plugs to charge your phone at night.
