Friendly and helpful staff, great location and price, very spacious showers that are actually good, and the sunset from the pool is a treat! The vibe for games night was great last night, thanks Maka!
This hostel had a great social area and was a good mixture between social and chill and the breakfast included was great
Overall I really enjoyed my stay at Maka, as the staff were very friendly, the location was excellent and the value was extraordinarily good. However, I do have one major comment to make. Oaxaca is located in Mexico, a Spanish speaking country. However, nearly everything in the hostel was written in English, including the flyers, signs and basic information. This is unfortunately another sad example of exclusionary Neo-colonialism. I hope the hostel can make an effort to rectify this.
looved my stay here! the vibes were the best the whole time i was there! the staff was so nice and they have great activities everyday and a perfect common area which makes it so easy to be social and meet people. beds were also comfy and the shower had the best water pressure and always hot water. would really recommend staying here!!
Truly the nicest hostel in Oaxaca! The staff is super friendly, the beds are very comfortable, and the showers are great too. There’s a really nice atmosphere, and I definitely recommend it!
Lovely staff and atmosphere was divine
Nice rooftop, and good breakfast
I loved my stay at Maka! The bed was comfy and had curtains and were in their own little nooks, and the showers were good. Sunset in the pool was great. Free brekky was so good and the kitchen had everything I needed. I joined their salsa class and BBQ events and they were fun, and most days there is something to do!
I stayed at Maka MX a few nights ago (4/6). I really liked the way the rooms are organized, so you have a relatively private space in the wooden bunks, with a slight recess at the end where you can keep more valuable items (the lockers also work and fit regular locks). I appreciate how the rooms are separated from the upstairs, so while it is a party hostel it is relatively easy to avoid noise when you want to sleep, you can sort of choose between party vibes and more chill vibes. There are lots...
Amazing staff!!! Loved the days i spent here :)
Great service all the time. The reception warm and friendly, clean, confortable and great vibe. Hope soon be back..
An amazing place to stay in the heart of Oaxaca. It is run by volunteers who are very friendly, and there’s a very sociable atmosphere so it’s a good place to meet other travellers. The bar has a great happy hour as well every night. The only thing I would say is that the tours are quite expensive, but other than that it was perfect!
Great hostel, lovely people! I’m a female traveler and felt really safe. I ended up change rooms and the staff were lovely. I extended my stay and I was given 10% off. Rihannon was lovely and helped me when I wanted to stay a couple more days. Free breakfast and coffee in the morning is good.
Toller vibe, ich war leider krank aber alle haben sich super um mich gesorgt :)
Was a very nice comfortable stay with a really nice communal area to either relax in your own space or get to know other travellers
Fantastic hostel with a great communal terrace where you can be social if you want but spacious enough to be anti-social if needed. Enjoyed the tour to Hierve el Agua. POS- Showers are great, i feel they’ve made good use of the space and a great kitchen Needs improvement- cookware is subpar
Overall it wasnt my favorite hostel. I left after the first night even though I book 3 nights. The rooms are way too small and I felt very claustrophobic. There was not enough room for two people to walk, let alone open your suitcase. I felt like I was sleeping in a morgue. The people in my room were also very inconsiderate of others but that is no fault of the hostel. The breakfast and kitchen were nice.
Great hostel. Nice atmosphère. The offer good tours and activities (like salsa classes) for reasonable price. The breakfast is very good. I recommand
Maybe it was just a fluke, but I had to move to a different hostel after one night because the room i was in (all female 8 people) was too hot to sleep in. It sounded like that one was just warmer than the other. But None of the rooms have windows and there is only one plug in each bed cubicle which has to be used for the fan. Also a lot of folks smoking cigs on the terrace. However, the kitchen is nice, staff were great, and the free breakfast hit! Great location, just could handle the heat.
