The rooms and beds were nice, the shower in my room was a little moldy, but there were nicer showers on other floors. The kitchen had everything you need and the staff were lovely. The only thing is that it was not very social at all, everyone here kind of felt like a close knit group that didn’t want strangers imposing on them. There were a couple times I got funny looks from people which didn’t help with the welcoming environment.

The location was good and staff friendly, however the bathrooms and kitchen were very dirty. A lot of long term stayers so not the greatest for short term stayers

Non c'è l'ascensore e ci sono tante scale, sembra un labirinto. Ci sono pochi bagni, alcuni hanno la tenda che è poco igienica, ma sono molto attenti alle pulizie. Poco friendly, spesso non rispondono neanche al saluto. La cucina è vecchia, piccola e scomoda. Credo di aver beccato il letto sfondato e avevo un arrangiamento strano di una prolunga appoggiata sul letto, per le norme di sicurezza fa niente. Non c'è l'aria condizionata.

Great hostel. Every member of staff was so lovely and helpful, and really create a homey vibe - plus their music taste was amazing. Great kitchen amenities and enough toilets/showers for everyone, really comfy beds and FREE lockers for storage incl. locks. One of the few hostels that I genuinely enjoyed sitting in the common area, as there are enough areas to either have fun with friends or chill alone if needed. Also were super helpful with storing my bike. Thanks to Matt & crew!

Lived here for 6 months, definitely felt like home to me and would recommend for long term stays as it has more of a share house feel. Well located with good transport links, everything you need within walking distance.

The Barclay Backpacker Hostel is an awesome place with a great vibe. It feels like one big family. The facilities are always clean, and I feel super comfortable here. Matt, the owner, is really kind and helpful. I’d recommend this hostel to anyone!

I came over in Summer, It was vibrant fun, plenty of amazing travellers to hang out with and go camping with,hiking tours, night clubs, bars etc. The roof top was great do many people for amazing conversions from across the world. Roof top BBQs cocktails pool parties, music ,plenty of drinking games or heading to the beach and play volleyball, or swim. Movie nights and cooking together always fun! Christmas was fantastic!! This hostel is a chill, friendly vibe. At first we were put into a room with a few women who were messy and it stunk, bed and shared bathroom was dirty. We went to reception and asked if they had space for us to be moved, they were super friendly and moved us with no problems. We were moved into a dorm with a few girls living there who were so lovely and made us feel comfortable straight away. A lot of people staying there live there for months at a time so it does feel like a family environment...

I’m shocked this hostel has as high reviews as it does. It gets the job done but it’s a VERY mediocre hostel. The bathrooms weren’t cleaned enough and there aren’t enough bathrooms for the amount of people staying there. The kitchen was dirty the majority of the time, staff weren’t rude but they weren’t friendly either. The bedrooms were so hot and I had a blood stain on my pillow. Staff was nice and we really enjoyed the rooftop. Not enough bathrooms and kitchen would get kind of messy fast. Definitely a homey feel, but kind of awkward for short term guests as half the hostel is staying long term. Would still recommend.

Really nice spot with a great community feel. We only stayed one night but there were lots of long term residents here who all seemed to get on really well. The kitchen was pretty decent and the common area was nice. The rooms themselves were spacious too and you get a large cupboard to store things. Easy to get around with public transport too.

Overall had a good stay. Kitchen is super small but they provide a lot of basic things for cooking/baking. Location is good.

I really like this hostel I stayed 2 months there and I loved it, I never though that I could stay this long in a hostel, but this one was amazing that really a social place where I met wonderful people 🫶🫶

Cannot recommend this hostel enough!! Have stayed here in the past as a long term stay and it honestly is the most family like hostel ever! The staff and other guests are kind and friendly as well as the rooms kept tidy and spacious, will always recommend to stay here for anyone new to Melbourne or anyone looking to stay in a hostel long term that isn’t so full on all the time!!
