Stayed at St Clair Hostel for a long weekend in December. Although it was off season, and could be expected to be very quiet, there was also a noticeable lack of staff presence. The first room we stayed in was very cold and the radiator was not producing any heat. When we went to reception (during posted open hours), there was no staff. It took 2 hours for a response. Afterwards, the staff were very helpful and moved our room. Also visibility dirty with hair/dust/garbage/bugs in our room.
I love this old building. But some may not.
Location could be fine, but the area feels unsafe with people using drugs right by the hostel. Our room was under/above staircases and next to the hallway – no soundproofing, constant noise, and a glass window with lights on 24/7. Everything was dirty: pillowcases, hallways, bathrooms. Furniture looked like junkyard leftovers. Staff mostly unfriendly, except one nice lady with instant coffee. Never again, not recommended.
well located but a bit run down. No fringes here.
Very poor communication from staff regarding check in and check out times, I still haven't gotten a response to my last email. Nobody mentioned theres no elevator or if there is where it might be. Ive got a pulled muscle in my back and had to carry my 23kg suitcase up and down the stairs to level 3. There was a light shining theough the stained glass above my door all night, illuminating the room. There were no towels despite the email stating there would be.
We felt the lack of staff past 5pm was concerning considering the location of the hostel and the fact that in case of questions or other needs, we couldn’t even reach them. The cleanliness was almost nonexistent, there was a pile of hair and trash in the showers. The room was dusty and the sheets seemed to have done their time. Although we did not except a full kitchen, no complementary coffee or tea were offered and the equipments were dirty. The vibe of the hostel was…bleak.
Dovevamo stare due notti, ma siamo rimasti solo una.La stanza era molto polverosa, le lenzuola macchiate. Il prezzo è più basso della media cittadina, anche vista la posizione molto centrale, ma ingiustificabile la scarsa pulizia.
This property is in an area surrounded by homeless people which feels quite unsafe. The hostel itself is extremely dingy and outdated. We could see rats outside from where our window looked out at night. The toilets and showers were unclean. The bedroom was very dingy with only two plug sockets, one of which had to be used for the fan as it was horrifically warm in the room. The staff were not very friendly and there was a strange woman roaming the corridors making noises at night. Awful.
Stay away from this place. Very dirty and low maintenance. Definitely my worst experience so far!
It was a Greta location and felt very comfortable
There were Ants in my bed sheet covers… Everything else though was fine :).
Good location, cozy vibes but the end of the day just a bed and somewhere to wash yourself. The hallway lights also probably need to be dealt with. The room was illuminated at night
Bathroom has moldy ceilings, very noisy, old and broken furniture, no common areas, no real kitchen, dishes are done in the hand sink of the toilets….
Going into this hostel, I kept my expectations low. You get what you pay for. The bunk beds are so loud it wakes you up when you roll over. The bars dip in the middle making sleeping uncomfortable. There’s no AC and there was a fan you can use that was caked in dirt. The faucet in our room was missing one of the taps. The showers smelled like pee (bring shower shoes if you visit). The bathrooms were dirty.
My husband and I stayed at St. Clair for several days in a private room. While I would be open to staying at the hostel again, it definitely isn't my favorite one I have stayed at. Pros Quiet Friendly enough receptionists Close to many things in Gastown/downtown Vancouver An entrance door that locks securely Cons Super quiet - almost eerily so Reception is open 8:30-5. My husband and I rarely saw anyone at the desk. No elevator - You have to carry your luggage up multiple flights of stairs. T...
L'auberge est très bien située dans le centre de Vancouver. Globalement propre sauf les douches.
Not clean, not worth the amount of money spent
Staff is super kind and friendly. and the place at this price is so reasonable given that it's in the heart of Vancouver
