We stayed here while completing day hikes to Laguna Churup, Laguna 69. We were welcomed so warmly and treated like family. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Hot water in showers in evening time. Delicious freshly prepared breakfast each morning. It is located outside the main town, but easy to get cheap Ubers in and out. We also got dinner+ dessert for 25soles pp which was really handy coming home from a long day hike. Really nice rooftop common area, climbing wall + cooking facilities available.
Un séjour incroyable à La Casa de Maruja ! On s’y sent comme à la maison, Maruja et Gilles sont super sympa, toujours de bons conseils et toujours de belles histoires à raconter ! Vous pouvez y aller les yeux fermés !
Gilf and Maruja were so warm, welcoming, and accommodating! They helped us to plan self guided hikes and saved us money on a Laguna 69 tour. It's easy to get to from town (2 sol colectivo or 7 sol taxi or uber). Our room was clean and spacious, the bed comfortable, and the shower nice and hot. They offer dinner for 20 soles and have a cool climbing wall too!
The best hostel we’ve ever stayed in! Gilf, his family and staff (shout out to Evlin!) were so lovely - the nicest people ever and this is what made the trip so lovely. Gilf’s knowledge and advice also helped us as we were struggling with the altitude. Amazing food with often a record playing in the background at a very good price and room was cleaned daily. Definitely go here if you want to feel a part of the family!
The staff, Maruja, Gilf, and Evelyn went out of their way to make sure I had an excellent stay. They helped me organize and plan excursions, rent gear, and provided any information I needed about the area. The breakfast and dinners were also delicious and the hostel room was comfortable. I really enjoyed the climbing wall as well. Overall they made me feel at home during my stay and I would highly recommend this place to any other young travelers.
The best hostel ever. The kindest hosts who will treat you like family. Easy to organise hikes and day trips through reception. Homecooked meals are cheap and great. Hostel was spotlessly clean and had all the necessary facilities. They also looked after me when I was sick. Thank you so much!! Book this hostel now :)
If you saw this review, and do not reserve here, You are an idiot. I have traveled more than one year, and been to hostel more than 100 places, And this was the BEST HOSTEL EVER. delicious, quiet, warm, comfortable. Come here and find out
I had a lovely stay at this hostel which felt more like a homestay with how they take care of your excursions, breakfast included, delicious homecooked dinner for 20 soles, and a very clean room/bathroom. They will help you get collectivos into town which cost 2 soles. One downside was that sometimes the shower didn't have hot water if someone else in the building was using it at that time. That being said, i still extended my stay for another night because i really enjoyed the dinners.
Such a cosy hostel that felt like a home away from home. My partner and i stayed at Maruja's for a week before heading out to do the huayhuash trek. Maruja made our stay feel so welcoming and her husband Gill gave us invaluable advice for our trek (he is a local guide). They also stored all of our luggage (including our bikes) for three weeks while we left to chicama. I highly recommend staying here and definitely opt for dinner at the hostel! The pollo saltado was the best we've had in peru.
I loved my stay here. The hostel is just outside the town centre (only S/2.5 for a quick collectivo), which makes it peaceful at night while still being easy to reach. The vibe is super chill, with big social areas. Breakfast is tasty and served in a communal space. the beds are comfy, the shower hot and there's filtered water available. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. They helped me plan both guided and independent treks in the area.
Loved my stay here! It felt like a stay with family. They help you with everything and the homecooked diners are delicious. Gracias por todo!
Such a lovely stay! The owners were amazing and helped us book a day trip to laguna 69, they prepared us a lunch and some snacks for the occasion. They offered us dinner, which was exquisite. When we left Huaraz to go to Huayhuash, there were problems with our shuttle. Nobody was answering the phone. The owner’s wife stayed up with us until 00:30, made some calls and made sure everything would be okay for our departure. That made me feel very safe. I can’t welcome her enough for that
Maruja and her staff were so wonderful and helpful! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay here again in the future!
Absolutely amazing hostel, I wouldn’t recommend staying anywhere else if you’re in Huaraz. The owners, a lovely local couple went over and above with their hospitality. The husband is a tour guide and helped save money on bookings. The hostel is a bit out of town but you can still easily walk or take transit. It is also more conveniently located when it comes to hikes. There was no water one evening, and even though it wasn’t their fault, we were still granted a free night in our sta...
Such an amazing place to stay in Huaraz ! The couple who run this place are so hospitable, knowledgeable and helpful. Yes, the location is a little out of the centre but I personally loved the local experience of taking the collectivos into the centre. They are cheap and easy. Also definitely eat here some evenings because the food is delicious and home cooked. And the showers are nice and hot (perfect after hikes!) Thank you Maruja and Gilf for an incredible stay 🙏
Our stay at Maruja and Gill’s home was wonderful! It is located up the hill from the city centre so it is quieter, but still an easy taxi ride, best of both worlds! Gill was extremely helpful with booking treks and is an experienced mountaineer. He really did save the day when we experienced challenges with other tours and we are so grateful that we chose to stay at his and Maruja’s home. You can expect hot shower, delicious breakfast and dinner, hot tea and great music! We recommend to all!...
Zeer nette B&B, we werden vriendelijk ontvangen door een lief warm gezin. Service was goed, wij mochten na het uitchecken onze koffers achterlaten en ‘s avonds nog even douche voor we onze reis gingen vervolgen.
Best place I have ever stayed at. They treat you as if you are family and make you feel as if you are home. They have tons of information on the locals hikes, rock climbing, and mountain climbing. Became my main source of information when trying to plan my next excursion. I stayed with them for around three weeks and was always happy to come back to them. Everyone there was so kind and made it a point that I was happy. At one point I got some sort of sickness and they helped nurse me back to hea...
Casa de Maruja is without a doubt one of the most memorable places I’ve stayed throughout all my travels. More people need to know about this gem! Gilf, Maruja and their beautiful family welcomed me with open arms & instantly made me feel at home. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, clean & the rooftop is a great space to relax. Bonus points for the best breakfast & homecooked food I’ve had in all of Peru. The perfect place to acclimatise & recover either side of Huayhuash
