Friendly and very helpful staff. Good location. Had a private twin room - room is small but under-the-bed space is large to store stuff
Exceptionally friendly staff roomy kitchen but only one cooker and sink. Own parking space and very central. Room far too small and very hot but bathroom fine.
Perfectly fine and reasonably priced. Not much happening but in a good location near lord of stuff.
The bunk beds were very tall it was hard to get on and you couldn’t sit on the upper bed without bumping your head. The ovens in the kitchen didn’t work. The bathrooms were very small and not the cleanest, bathrooms were shared both men and women. No ac just a small fan that didn’t do much. There is free parking which is nice and the staff was nice too
Great for the price. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Can't say much else - just a nice cheap place to sleep.
easy check in and great location with free on site parking. while our room was very clean the communal kitchen wasn't. our room was also very small - not an issues If solo traveling or a couple. Nice quite hostel but if looking to meet other travellers it may not be for you.
Great little hostel to stay the night before our drive back to Auckland.
It was tiny, I booked a two bed, private room and barely had space for one backpack. The showers were also very small, did not have anywhere to put my soaps so I balanced them on the door. Staff was very friendly and beds were comfy.
The property itself was nice, so was the staff. The location is also great. Only one problem, the day I left in the evening, I noticed that I had bites from bed bugs on my arms, hands and face. I'm pretty sure, I got them there, so that is something I would look out for. I had the single room 3.4.
Friendly welcome. Twin bedroom was too small for normal travelling suitcases but friendly staff upgraded us, mother and adult daughter. Plentiful of tea, coffee in room. Thai restaurant nearby beautiful food and many other people enjoying the food. Older style place, in the heart of town with plenty of parking on
Very friendly owner, helping us with any questions. Nice and clean bathrooms and toilets. Kitchen had everything you need to make food. We stayed there two nights and were very satisfied. The rooms were very noise-sensitive, so you could unfortunately hear everything, but other than that is was great. Easy to use the washing machine and dryer. And comfortable beds! :)
Nice staff and place, clean and in a good position in central Rotorua.
Really enjoyed my stay here! Property was relatively quiet and I appreciated the opportunity to have a private room. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Yes the rooms are small, and the window wasn’t able to open all the way so air flow wasn’t amazing, but I had checked reviews so knew what I was signing up for. Perfectly met my needs and expectations
Decent place to stay for one night
Astray was a solid place to stay during my time in Rotorua. Check in was easy, my room was clean, the towels were refreshed daily, and it was very nice to return to at the end of a long day of exploring. My rating isn't a 10/10 because I did initially think it would be more of a hostel-type atmosphere, but Astray is definitely more motel-style. That said, if you're seeking a more peaceful rather than interactive place to stay, Astray has got you covered.
More of a motel than a hostel. Basic but clean, has all the facilities you need as a backpacker. There was not much atmosphere, but for location it was great.
Good Enough
Lovely friendly staff, super clean and comfy. Very good location.
Pros: good location (geothermal pools within walking distance), comfortable beds - fan and heater provided in the rooms, as well as towells. The staff were friendly and helpful Cons: kitchen wasn't very clean and lacking in some appliances (such as a strainer), the room was quite small and stuffy/hot
good place for a few nights stay. mix of families and back packers
