The owners are friendly. I don't usually leave bad reviews but I have to say I do not understand all the good reviews. The hostel is located on the side of the road, no real place to relax, the room is extremely basic (I am used to basic accommodation and comfort though), only a very small locker in the room. No filtered drinking water. Also the cleanliness of the room and bathroom is not good, my bed was covered in dust when I arrived. At this price, you have much better options.
+ We absolutely loved the welcome Mark and Lisette gave us. The location was fantastic and breakfast and supper is really good. Mark gave us a Salsa workshop, which we really liked. They really did their best to make your stay unique. It is also very nice that you can rent a scooter right from the hostel.
- It would have been nice if there would have been a small fridge to keep drinks cool and store some water overnight if you leave early in the morning.
Fantastic family hostel to get the experience of living like locals do in Ometepe. The family is amazing, food is great and good portions, prices for the bar and scooter rentals are good, and the dogs are THE ABSOLUTE BEST. Bus goes by right in front. Guests should be aware the home is close to the road and there are dogs, chickens, roosters so it's not the quietest place however I absolutely loved my stay there and would return.
This hostal is just wonderful- very cozy and part of a family home. The family are native Ometepe people, and one guy who married in. :) They could not have been more accommodating in my needs to change dates and change number of people. We also arrived late, and they helped us order pizza. They recommended Ojo de Agua which is very close to their place and we had a GREAT time there. Finally, they were super accommodating about our scooter rental, and made our experience easy and pleasant!
+ Learned this was one of the original hostels on Ometepe. Breakfasts and dinners were freshly prepared with local ingredients. Their dogs and cats were very nice to spend time with. The hosts can lease scooters and deliver them for competitive prices. Communication with host prior to and during stay was excellent.
- Located on the main road so there was vehicle noise during the day but not at night. Evenings were peaceful.
Great place, super friendly family. More of a homestay than a hostel. Very quiet location for a good night of sleep!
I had a very nice stay in La Penita though I was the only tourist there. Lisette and Marco are really nice and happy to help with everything. As it was slow season I could not eat at the place every night but there are comedors not far (30 min by foot but make sure to have a light or 10 min by scooter). The scooter rental is expensive at La Penita (15$ is the average price in Moyagalpa VS. 20$ for the day (until 7 pm) or 25$ for 24 hours and you really need it. No bus on Sunday!

Very quiet, more like a homestay, but the owners were really nice and helpful. The room was very hot and shower/toilets quite basic but think thats normal for the island. We arrived late and needed food and the nearest restaurant was a 20 min walk in the dark, but think thats normal if you dont stay in santa cruz or the port.
I spent three nights here in May and really enjoyed it! The family who runs it are really helpful and friendly. Every morning the breakfast was great and I was able to buy a packed meal to bring with me when i was hiking the volcano. They also let me rent a scooter off them for a good price. My room was very warm at night even with a fan but that's gonna be the case everywhere you go in Nicaragua.
+ Very friendly host family. Rooms are spacious and clean. Centrally situated on the island. Great value for money.
- Everything was good

very good, owner was very friendly and the facilities were very clean. the local bus also stops near here (without needing to take the connection) and the owner rents scooters if you need them.
Great laid back hostal close to Altagracia. Mark and his wife were very helpful in our stay. He also provided us with a great tour guide to take us up to Concepcion. Also had very epic dogs that will be missed dearly. And two cats (one of which who happy drools for pets!).
This establishment was adorable! The owners are super nice and will make sure you're comfortable. Dogs are super sweet and will require cuddles
