Empty hostel, it felt dystopian, 2 beers cost 370 cordabas. 0 atmosphere, more staff than guests. Would not recommend
I’ve never taken time out of my day to leave a review on hostel world but this was seriously the worst hostel i’ve ever stayed at. The other people on here are lying bc there was literally 4 people in TOTAL staying at the hostel when i was there. Bad location, far from everything and the shuttles don’t go very often so you’re just stuck there if you don’t want to pay 20 dollars for a taxi. Staff was rude, food was bad and i left after 1 day there even though i couldn’t get a penny re...
Beautiful place. Perfectly located, close to Madeira beach. Clean rooms with AC. Nice pool with beach volleyball net. Good wifi. Pooltable. Welkcomesdrink. Super friendly staff. All good vibes … One downside: there is no guest kitchen and you are not allowed to bring / eat your own food. Restaurant prices were rather high.
Extraordinaire, très beau et service impeccable. On regrettera juste une cuisine.
I would not recommend staying here. The hostel itself has some potential: the rooms and pool are good. However, the restaurant is very expensive and not good. They put a lock on the kitchen so you have to eat there. The other restaurants closeby charge the same high prices. The only thing to do around is going to the beach, or take an overpriced shuttle or cab to San Juan. There are no supermarkets closeby as well. There were also almost no people so there is no atmosphere.
The shuttle from SJDS drives by the accommodation, just tell them to stop. There’s no supermarket close, but restaurants and the beach within 10 minutes walking distance. Beds were comfy, very clean and spacious dorm with AC. Staff was friendly and atmosphere few backpackers to connect with while playing pool. No activities conducted by the hostel tho. Nice yoga platform on top. Comparably cheap, would come back.
I don’t know why there are any bad reviews of this place, we had the best experience here. It is absolutely stunning. It is very affordable. It is very clean. The staff are very friendly. Great location (10 min walk to surf beach). Shuttle stops here many times a day to the beach or San Juan. Rooms have private bathrooms, A/C, hot shower. It was so quiet while we were here (mid Jan) we almost had the place to ourselves. I would definitely come back here again and I would recommend it to anyone...
The staff were not helpful, no one had any information on spa costs (why advertise it then). The worst part, was the food. Do not eat there. My chicken was completely raw. After taking it back to them they made it out like it was my preference of how I wanted it cooked and rather than offering me something else they microwaved it and still charged me. For a public company, Selina needs to hire chefs who know how to cook chicken. It’s laughable and a basic necessity of cooking. 0/10
Beautiful location, aside from the frequent power outages and difficult transportation links, the rooms are clean and the staff are very helpful- this place definitely grew on me and the lush biodiversity truly makes this place!
really nicely done. room was also very good!
Very relaxing and peaceful, lovely rooms (if a little dark due to no windows). Very unimpressed by the staff (not the volunteers) felt very judged and non of the activities seemed to take place. Food also very overpriced and the free is not worth the money. The surfing is good at the beach if a bit of a walk, the surf school is great for beginners. Make sure to bring food to cook with you in the kitchen as no close local shops that are cheap.
Not sure why this Selinas gets bad reviews. It's great for surfers, has a nice pool, good restaurant, good vibes, and I met some cool people. The only downsides were a lukewarm shower and that my bin didn't get emptied for the 3 days I was here (private room).
el personal del bar muy agradable y profesional
Arriving at the hostel, kind of camping family pool party with way too loud music I had to get earplugs not to get ear trauma. Restaurant not very good and way too long. Waited 1h for a burger whereas the restaurant was empty. My bed (in dorm) was not clean, so as the pillow - dirty sheets and dust + broken power outlet Bad noise isolation with dorms next door. Not worth the 23€/night at all. Complained about everything and got offered a private room for the next night, which was fine.
The location is far from ideal (very far from SJDS) and there aren’t many facilities within walking distance. The food in the restaurant of the hostel is disappointing and expensive. The veggies options are very limited. The communal kitchen is good though. The room was comfortable and clean . Pool is nice too. Didn’t seem like a very social setting but we went during Samana Santa so it was fully booked with local families and unhealthy loud music next to the pool.
Awesome place with GREAT proximity to playa maderas. Facilities are awesome: co-work is stellar, pool is great, the entire property is just solid. Also the room was awesome, comfy bed, blasting A/C, and super nice bathrooms. One downside is it depends what you’re looking for , if you wanna just beach and surf maderas then it’s great but if you wanna be in SJDS all the time you either have to taxi (~$20 USD one way, or shuttle ~$4 USD) or rent motorcycles which is what I did. Both are manage...
Fine hostel but not social
This is the worst Selina I have stayed at and I usually love Selina’s. I DO not recommend, the front desk woman is sooo rude, toldMe the room wasn’t ready when I arrived 30 min early and made me sit and wait as I watched no one leave the room(no one check out or clean) so it was ready. The restaurant guys are the only pleasant staff members, the front desk are annoyed by your existence. You have to walk up a HUGE hill to get to the beach and they offer no shuttle or service to get there.
Great Selina in Maderas just outside of San Juan. It’s a great spot for travellers who want to have a quick walk to Maderas Beach. It is more out of town but still pretty easy to get to by renting a scooter or taxing. Probably one do the best hostels I’ve stayed at. Great co working space, bar and the staff were awesome. It should be much higher rated so if you’re looking for a chilled hostel with great amenities, ppl, AC rooms, and to surf, this is the spot.
