rats in the room… if that’s not enough of a reason not to stay the staff literally don’t care. not social at all and food and drinks are overpriced and take forever to come. location good i guess but just pay that little bit extra and stay at Zephyr so you aren’t woken up to rats crawling over you

Very nice location, right next to the river in the jungle. Clean and well maintained facilities. It’s about a 15 minute walk to get to town. The dorms are fairly loud based on the construction, being mainly out of wood, especially if you have the downstairs dorm the wooden ceilings makes everything fairly loud.

I had a good stay at Hostal Oasis. Beautiful view on the river, peaceful (except of the hostal next door playing loud music all day and all night that unfortunately ruins a bit the tranquility of the place). Only downside is there is no kitchen or fridge to keep any food, and the staff don't allow you to eat any outside food. Beautiful area directly at the river, so perfect if you like nature and a relaxed atmosphere. Walking distance to the town of Lanquin. When we were there, the vibe was calm, so not a party hostel. As located in the jungle, you must be aware of animals being around, and our room was not really made to keep all of them out (we suspected mice being around). Showers were warm and staff friendly. Would recommend over all!

Dit was echt een top accomodatie. Naast de Semuc Champay tour die je vanuit dit hostel kon boeken, was dit een erg fijne plek om tot rust te komen. Liggen op de pier, genieten van de glijbaan en de trapeze, en zwemmen in de rivier. Verder was het personeel supervriendelijk en deden ze alles het hostel er netjes uit te laten zien. Het enige jammere was dat de douche koud was, maar gelukkig was het warm buiten dus was dat ook weer niet zo erg.

I do not recommended this hostel. We had rats in our room through the night. Reception was closed so I got no sleep scaring them away all night. When I spoke to them the next day, they just laughed. There was rat faeces on a clean bed and the staff just flicked it off. The second night a girl found a rat in her bag (no food in there) and they were jumping on the beds. The other rooms seemed ok but DO NOT STAY in room 19. The waterslide was fun and the food was ok but the pool table unusable.

Really sweet place if you don’t mind being a bit outside Semuc Champey! The staff were really sweet and got to know us a bit over the 2 nights we were there. The place is very clean and the property is so pretty with the river and the pools. We would have loved to have a kitchen, but it seems like it’s fairly common in this area to rely on hostels for food so it was alright. The Semuc Champey tour was also super fun. Would recommend for a slower, quieter vibe!

Showers were freezing cold but to be honest it’s so humid in the day that’s it’s not bad. Good location and staff are really helpful and sweet. Food isn’t great and it’s a 15/20 min walk into Lanquin to get anything else.

It was a fine place to stay. It was clean. My first night there was incredibly quiet, in a dorm by myself. More workers than travelers. But it was nice to relax and a good spot to visit Semuc Champey. The food was a bit bland and felt overpriced for what it was though. Just better to eat in town.

Was it unusually cold when we were there? Yes. Is everything built for warm/hot weather? Yes. Should blankets have been provided and not just sheets for the night? Absolutely. Everyone was freezing even though we were sleeping with all our clothes. I don't expect a 5 star service but this should have been common sense. Also just 2 plug outlets for the whole room.

Unfortunately this place needs a lot of improvements. The potential is there, the area and view is beautiful… We arrived in the dorms to find only a sheet and thin cover was provided, on an 8 degree night! when we asked for blankets we were given one more thin cover… not enough! Showers also don’t have hot water, it was freezing the whole time we were there. The staff doesn’t seem to care or mind. Cleaners got into the room to clean and make the beds at 9 am while I was still in bed �...

Pas d’eau chaude en tout cas dans les dortoirs, pas de locker, wifi inexistant, cafard dans le dortoir. Pas de cuisine en libre accès. La carte de la cuisine est chère par rapport à la qualité des plats. Heureusement que l’hostel est beau et que l’endroit est top. Le personnel aussi est très bien.

Hostal Oasis has a beautiful location right on the river and a short walk from the Lanquín caves and town. However, the facilities were not the best. There were no security lockers, they don’t provide a lot of blankets and it does get a bit cold at night, the wifi does not reach the rooms and the beds don’t each have a charging port, plus no warm showers. Staff were friendly but frequently mixed up money amounts. The menu also left a bit to be desired (especially for vegetarians).

This hostel Oasis was a good value that checks all my boxes. The tour of Semuc Champey was fun but very physically demanding.

Pros: -helpful staff - free ride from bus terminal to the hostel on arrival - adequate areas to rest in Cons: - stale linen - no kitchen

Un bel emplacement près de la rivière. Des bungalows de bois dispersés dans la verdure au dessus d'un restaurant agréable donnant sur la rivière(.prix correct). Le personnel est accueillant et efficace. On vient vous chercher à l'arrivée du bus. A conseiller! Juste un problème d'odeur désagréable dans la salle d'eau

Nice jungle location with easy access with tuktuks. The room was nice and private, however a bit loud. The shower was super super cold
