Hostal Jardin Mahahual

Hostel Jardin has a stunning interior, great location (5 min to the beach), a nice kitchen, and evening AC—all great perks for travelers. However, we were unexpectedly charged a 21% tax, and on our last day, a miscommunication about showering after checkout led to the male owner getting aggressive, demanding more money, and trying to block us from leaving. While the space itself is lovely, the management made us feel unsafe.

The hostel was clean and close to the bus station. No social vibe, no activities organized. Be careful with the owner! He seemed nice at first but didn’t give me the right change when I paid him. He said he’d leave it at reception, but I never got it. Later, he rudely claimed I owed him money—though I didn’t. He insisted and I ended up paying twice to avoid conflict. Very disappointing.

Very nice hostel!! very close to the beach, stores and a delicious bakery. The owner Ernesto is very friendly and helpful. He just added his hostel on Hostelworld a month ago but is already experienced with helping the guests with having the best time in Mahahual. The kitchen is also very nice, I highly recommend this place !!
