B&B Rifugio Uscio

This was unfortunately a really bad experience. First of all the host is really rude. She yelled at us for no reason when we just asked simple questions. I asked to use the wash machine but I had to buy my own soap which is crazy. When we wanted to ask for help she was hard to get a hold of. Apparently if you book via hostelworld there is no breakfast, even though it is a “bed and breakfast”. There was no AC in the room. It was a nice view from the room but that was all. Hi, some of the facilities were underwhelming such as difficulties in operating the shower, not much security in the hostel itself, and the owner’s inability to attend to the needs of the customers. Though the owner was friendly, we still think that the above mentioned facilities could be improved. There’s no breakfast options since there could be many people staying at once and the owner herself cannot accommodate to cook for all the customers. The wifi was nice though. Hope it help...

Die Mitarbeiterin, die uns empfangen hat war sehr freundlich. Es wäre gut, wenn in der Beschreibung des Hostels ergänzt wird, dass die Küchenbenutzung pro Tag pro Person (!) 5€ kostet. Bei Pizzapreisen von 5€ pro Pizza im Nachbarort Recco lohnt sich Essen gehen dann fast mehr als im Hostel selbst zu kochen ;-) zumal die Küche leider auch nicht wirklich gut ausgestattet war. Auch 5€ für einmal Waschmaschine & Trockner nutzen ist doch etwas teurer als man es von anderen Hostels kennt.

Great and cosy place to stay in the secluded mountains with a great kitchen and garden - note you have to take the bus to get into town and then another train to get to Portofino. I enjoyed my stay.

It was okay to get up there when you know the bus-lines. The host was having a bad day I Think, she wanted some of the payment in cash (15 out of 135), which I did not carry at the moment. She got mad but said I could pay the rest the next day. When coming down to the bathroom I saw there was a washing machine. I asked about the rules and she got mad, saying I should not Ask about using that when I already owed her 15euro (out of 135€). It was very uncomfortable, I do not want to go back here.

the place is beautiful but a little more remote than expected, when we had difficulty locating it the host met us with attitude saying it’s simple to find. we paid extra for breakfast & were expecting more than offered. Beautiful oasis hidden in the hills. Gorgeous garden and building, and of course the lovely host Sonia. Only issue was that no towels were provided, so I recommend bringing your own. Other than that, an absolutely perfect stay.

While I originally intended on going to Portofino, this hostel was a gem I didn’t expect to find! It is farther out from Portofino, in the town of Uscio. Bus route from Genoa-Uscio makes access easy for 2€ as well as to the beach town of Camogli and Recco. The kind owner, Sonia provided a free sage oil and marjoram salt making class and made us pasta for lunch after. Gorgeous views and small town vibes make it a must do for a lowkey travel recharge experience, or a small Italian village...

We had the most amazing experience at Sonia’s B&B. The property was beautiful with the most stunning views of the mountains and we made so many friends which made the experience even better. Sonia even made us breakfast on the last morning which was delicious! I will definitely be returning to this lovely hostel!

I stayed with a friend of mine for 5 nights in the Rifugio Uscio. We felt very much at home, enjoyed the familiar atmosphere and had a wonderful time, especially together with the other guests. Every morning again we were stunned by the view from the balcony or the outside breakfast table. The hostel is located in the mountains close to Genova and offers great opportunities for day trips to Portofino, Cinque Terre or Camogli, as well as for beautiful hiking tours (thank u for your tips, Sonia!)

Staying at this hostel was a real pleasure! The host, Sonia, was so lovely and welcomed us with cold water, and some delicious pesto pasta. The rest of the trip was full of good moments in the house that absolutely made up for the trek up! Would love to come back one day and stay a little bit longer. Overall a really special experience.

I had the best stay ever in Uscio! It was so peaceful at the hostel being a little far out but it was so easy to catch transport into other towns. I met some beautiful people here as Sonia was so kind & made an effort to create a warming and inclusive vibe. The pesto pasta she cooked for us was delicious 🫶🫶 & the volunteers were great too (miss you heather lol)

Sonia was an amazing host would definitely come back to stay again or volunteer. Uscio is so idyllic, a really lovely town. Fabulous trip and experience !!

I loved my time here so much and was so sad to leave!! The hostel is so unique and beautiful with a big garden. And the views are incredible. Sonia was such a great host. She is a lot of fun and really cares about her guests. I definitely want to come back here some time!!

This is my favourite place to stay so far and I have travelled while staying in hostels a lot including sicily, germany, the UK and Portugal. Sonia the host is kind, welcoming, warmhearted and welcomes you with lots of positive energy ✨️ recommendations and often some wine and local food treasure to try. She has made my stay a row of beautiful experiences, possibilities for connections, and late night barbecue memories.

I stayed in this hostel in April of 2025, and it was an amazing experience. The location was beautiful, and it was like nothing I had stayed in before. This was the ultimate traveller experience, and I felt like I got to know the place and people very well. When I arrived with my friends, we were greeted with a tour and got to try some homemade cookies! I highly recommend this place! The location and view from the balcony is absolutely beautiful. Easy to go on different day trips with the bus or train. Sonia is so generous and makes you feel very welcome and safe in the house. This is a house with soul and personality! Sad I only stayed for three nights, would definitely go back sometime. the b&b is one of the best I have ever stayed at, the views are to die for and Sonia doesn’t leave a moment to not make you feel at home, her hospitality is top notch. hopefully would be coming back soon, this time with friends! 10/10 recommended.

This was the best hostel we’ve stayed in so far on our trip through Italy! Beautiful and very clean home and rooms with an amazing view, the owner Sonia was very welcoming the moment we arrived and immediately offered us cold drinks. She was very informative about the bus schedules and things to do in the area which was very much appreciated! Later in the day she prepared a delicious spread of food as well. Would definitely stay again!!
