The Oldmill Holiday Hostel

horrible value for money. for nearly 50€ for a 4-bed dorm, the facilities were not adequate. no lockers or underbed storage at all. not in the rooms, not in the entrance. no peace of mind that your belongings are safe. doors to rooms are left unlocked near constantly. paper thin walls. scalding hot, nearly unusable showers (there was a sign about the water, but it still burned me 👍). bread & jam for "breakfast" nothing else. staff was lovely but this place is a rip-off. cop on.

Honestly this was an awful experience!! Myself and friend visited westport for 1 night, staying at the old Mill hostel. The description on the Web page, absolutely did not meet standards. Noise and shouting from a alcohol fueled group, aprox 10 + people, which kept us waken until 4.30AM aprox. NO reception staff on duty. NO WIFI available? NO common area until 8 AM? it states on their page their is a QUIET HOURS policy , per environmental protection Act 1992. Clearly ignored??

We had the worst experience we could possibly have in a hostel. Along with two friends, we booked a 12-bed dorm. We were the first to arrive, so we left some of our belongings on the beds we chose (since the hostel does not assign specific beds). When we returned later that night, most of the beds were already taken, and there were someone else’s personal items on one of our beds. We moved the items to the floor and went to bed. Five minutes later, a man came in claiming we had taken his bed.

Vor Check-in Zeiten ist niemand im Haus, heißt warten bis jmd kommt, denn ansonsten keine Gepäckaufbewahrung. WLAN hat nicht funktioniert, Restbetrag musste aber im strömenden Regen "right now" bezahlt werden, also raus in den Regen einen ATM suchen anstatt die Ausweise als Pfand zu hinterlegen. Keinerlei Freundlichkeit oder Entgegenkommen. Highlight war dann die kalte Dusche, keinerlei Ablagen also auf Toilette umziehen und inbegriffenes Frühstück ist Toast mit Marmelade.

The staff was helpful and though more than 35 euro did not include a towel, I was willing to give it a go. They need to size-up their customers better. In 30 years of hosteling, I have never encountered such a disrespectful, inconsiderate roommate. This guy was flatulating through out the night, snoring like I've never heard before and not having the common decency to wear clothes. This guy should be banned from future hostels. I ended up leaving and sleeping in my car.

Probably the worst hostel experience I've ever had. Rooms smell incredibly stale. No secure place to store luggage in your room. Beds were incredibly springy and uncomfortable. Only a few outlets in the room, and not situated close to the bed. The internet was poor and continued to drop. Kitchen communal area constantly blasts the radio (95% ads, not nice...). No towels, or paper towels in the bathroom. "Complimentary breakfast" was a bag of bread and jam left on the kitchen table.

Positive aspect was the readiness of the Hostel staff to provide us with an additional night before our due arrival date. Overall not good value for money: no proper common room, breakfast room locked until 8.30am one morning, fights in Hostel at nighttime.

It was alright. Nothing more. Nothing less. Clean facilities, but really basic. The room has just a small window, so it can get smelly real quick. We had 3 drunk people, who came home late in night, woke everyone up, smelled like Alkohol and started snoring like crazy. But it’s not the fault of the hostel, so the hostel is alright. Friendly staff, really basic breakfast, but at least you can have breakfast. But a nice cooking corner.

Leider gibt es wenig Steckdosen in den schlafsälen & keine Leselampen... Außerdem war ich glaub auf irgendwas an der bettwäsche allergisch, hatte zumindest Ausschlag am Arm. Betten sind bequem, Waschräume sauber!

Fantastic hostel in the centre of town. Staff were lovely and very helpful. There were no plugs by the beds and no lockers, that is what I am dropping the rating alittle. Breakfast is simple but a nice touch.

The facilities are excellent when it comes to cleanliness and great staff. I feel safe staying here and visit the local bar and walk around town. I would definetly recommend this place who are looking to find a rustic vibe stay.

You technically get everything that you need. If you're picky about showers, you should know they only have buttons that run the water for 15 seconds or so. If you book on here, you now have to pay in cash when you check in (sept 2025) which they didn't include in their booking info

Better than in my memory. And obviously the people of Old Mill Hostel seem to read the reviews. Therefore , the showers were most times hot, if not you could ask at the reception. Kitchen was well equipped.

Great location, always meet lovely people and great chats over breicfast. It's a pity there arnt more hostels like this one around the country

Great location, and the old building was beautiful. But the staff weren't friendly and there was frequently no toilet paper/cold showers.

Friendly staff in an excellent location. Great value for money. Would recommend this hostel.

Was told I could only pay the remaining balance in cash and they wouldn’t take card, so I had to pay a €5 fee at the atm to get money out - then another person in my dorm said she paid with card so very inconsistent there! Showers were boiling hot and couldn’t be made cooler, burnt my skin a few times in the morning and there is also no where to put your clothes inside the shower so everything gets wet. Beds were comfy though and the location was amazing, good for a one night stay

Admittedly not stayed at a hostel for 40 years so did not know what to expect. Yes I slept in a warm, dry comfortable bed and had a good shower and able to charge equipment etc. Cooking facilities available if needed. However, to include breakfast but then restrict to a certain 'late' time and offer no alternative, was disappointing. Why could they not leave somebread out the night before? There is storage for cycles but doesn't appear to be locked. A little worrying.

It’s good for a quick stay. Free breakfast is nice to have. The beds don’t have plug ins near them or lights, the shower head is placed weird so that you can’t keep your towel dry in there with you. Kitchen is well stocked and the location is great

Great place to stay but unfortunately no being able to shower was not good at ALL ! The showers wouldn't stay on for more than 10 seconds and was going cold too. Not good if you've been out hiking all day. Other than that BIG issue, great all round !
