The hostel has only 4 beds and a private room, since I was in the off season, hardly anyone was there! The owner knows a lot about the history and there was delicious breakfast! It's about 15-20min tuktuk drive to Kandy downtown! On the day I was there was no tour or anything
Asanka is a great host. At first we had to get used to his energy a bit but once you get to know him, he is lovely. The hostel itself is good but a bit pricey for what you get. The whole ambience and interior is a bit quirky and diy but has its own charm. The location is great only if you wanna visit the royal gardens and catch the Ella train. The tour is nice but doesn't include Kandy palace or royal gardens and the tea factory seemed like a tourist trap.
Strictly can be used only for a night as the hostel is main purpose to catch the Ella train only. Make sure to visit the local station on the day of your check in. They themselves will have reserved tickets for Ella train. I got mine the way upto Nuwara Eliya and then adjusted in 3rd class unreserved and I spent like 3$ only. So don’t over pay and get the ticket in black in the name of bidding.
Very friendly Hostel Owner. Communication upfront was super nice and at arrival I got all information needed. The best bathroom I have had during my Sri Lanka Hostel Tour. It's close to thelatest rain station before Kandy (walking distance) so that you might have a better chance to catch the train. As it's far away from Kandy you have a lovely peacefully night but always need a ride to the center . It was not that busy when I arrived so felt more like a homestay
its a small but nice hostel, the owner is super kind and we did the tour with him, which you should definitly do! For a few nights is the hostel nice but wouldnt stay any longer.
Very nice staff who helped a lot with information and advice, location was good for the train station and the botanical gardens! Unfortunately very few restaurants nearby. Hostel facilities were good! Breakfast was good!

One of the best hostels i've stayed in! smaller and homely, the host Asanka truely makes the stay! You really must do his tour of Kandy, its amazing and he has a wealth of knowledge.
Where do I even start - This is way more than a hostel. It’s an experience, a step into the world of Asanka, the hilarious and also deep and knowledgeable hostel owner and guide. If you come in with an open mind and a sense of humor, you will love this place and keep memories forever, while learning along the way. You have to take his tour also, it’s more than worth it!!
Asanka was by far the best host of a hostel we’ve ever experienced. What an absolute King. Him and his team made us feel so welcome and made us the most beautiful traditional Sri Lankan food. His property was absolutely gorgeous and he showed us all of the beautiful fruits and different plants growing just on his doorstep. We connected with Asanka so well. It felt like we were best friends even though we had only just met him so the personal tour around Kandy he offered us made us fall in love...
The hostel is really chill, surrounded by nature. it is a bit outside of Kandy, but well connected by buses. The owners are really kind and will welcome you with open arms. Definitely try the kottu for dinner. I've been there for the Singalese new year and they made me be part of their ceremony.
AMAZING. Stay here for a great experience!! The host, Asanka, is the best guy. He’s super funny, nice and knowledgeable. Definitely do his «Off the beaten track» tour! And try his homemade kottu! Asanka really went out of his way to give us the best stay. Like others mentioned it felt like staying at a friend’s house. A special highlight of our trip that we will remember forever - we now have a friend in Sri Lanka❤️ Oh, and the double bed is super comfy!!!
If you want to actually experience Sri Lanka - learn something about the history, culture, nature, life of locals, and not just blindly go from one tourist attraction to another, you must give this homestay a go! Yes, it’s simple, but that’s the beauty of it. Ask questions, be curious and open, you won’t regret it (and do the tour!!)
Asanka is a lovely host and will go above and beyond to make sure you have a great time in Kandy. I have a great stay here and would recommend
Excellent hostel and hosts. Good vibes and atmosphere. Thank you Sanka for the tour and more especially the cooking class. Truly appreciated your commitment to show us the local life. Hoping to see you again guys. Until then take care and stay safe !
I spent four nights at Asanka's and really enjoyed my time there. The hostel is a bit secluded and very small, with a maximum capacity of six people, so it feels very cozy. Asanka and his friends really try to make sure their guests have a good time. We went on a few trips with them and also cooked together with some of Asanka's friends. It was a very authentic, wonderful experience. I would definitely come back!
We loved staying here and highly recommend this hostel when visiting Kandy! While the city is noisy and busy, this place is so peaceful. But what made it truly special was Asanka & his team! He is absolutely hilarious and has such a big heart – please bring good jokes because his laugh is contagious! We also loved his tour, as he showed us the city in a very authentic way and helped us understand the history of Sri Lanka in such an entertaining way. Istuti Asanka! Hope to see you soon in Germa...
I'd describe this as more of a guesthouse or bed and breakfast than a hostel. It's a very small, very social, "family home" vibe with delicious breakfast/dinner and a lot of chats around the dining table. Come here if you want to actually enjoy/understand Kandy and connect with local people -- Kandy is more than just a place to pass through! It's also in a great peaceful location near the botanical gardens and university.
Asanka and the team are absolute best! It's a humble, small hostel but they treat all their guests making them feel at home and provide such a lovely experience to the Sri Lankan culture. The breakfast and tea were really nice, and for sure, they will make sure you are taken care of from the moment you arrive. I couldn't do the tour, but I heard it's worth it! Thanks Asanka for everything!
i really enjoyed my stay in the private room. the property is very modest, but if you thought about skipping kandy you will certainly change your mind after staying here! i was looking for a true cultural experience with locals and i found it at nature lovers hostel. yes it is a ways out of town, but so easy to get to by tuktuk. the kandy tour with asanka was an absolute highlight for me. i loved the viewpoints, museums, tasty food and treats. vijay, another host, gave me a wonderful tour of the...
Asanka, Milan and the team gave us a great experience at the Nature Lover’s hostel. We did the Off The Beaten Track tour and learned so much about Sri Lankan history. We had amazing Kottu and breakfast there and we were also shown around the garden. Asanka also helped me getting back my lost glasses (Thank you so much!!!). You really feel that they are hosting with heart and try to give you an authentic experience. We’ll definetely recommend.
I had a great time at this hostel, I originally planned to stay one night and ended up extending. Asanka is one of the funniest most welcoming hosts I’ve met. He made amazing kottu, taught me Sri Lankan history and showed a personal side to Kandy
A humble and cozy hostel away from the chaos of Kandy. Our host, Asanka, was amazing. He is an exceptionally well-spoken local with a deep passion for sharing the rich history of Sri Lanka. More than just a place to stay, it’s an opportunity to really connect with the local way of life. Would highly recommend the “Off the Beaten Track” tour with Asanka to catch a glimpse of the hidden gems in Kandy. Also recommend the authentic Sri Lankan breakfast. P.S Asanka is hilarious, be read...
Had such a great time at Nature Lovers Hostel! The hosts are very kind and loving, and they really care about Kandy and want to show the beauty of it to their guests. Would definately recommend.
I had such a great stay at nature lovers hostel, one of my favourite stays in Sri Lanka. I originally booked for 1 night but extended to 2 so I could do the hostel tour, and I’m so glad I did. It was a really interesting tour which went to the less touristy places in kandy, like a local ice cream shop and a local lunch spot. The hostel is not in central Kandy but in a quiet area nearby, so a peaceful stay & I found it so easy to get into Kandy by PickMe Great breakfast & great host
Asanka is the best host I ever had. You can tell he is doing it for the love of the game and to give his guests the most authentic and wholesome experience of Kandy and surroundings
Asanka is the best guide in Kandy! The hostel is in an amazing natural location, surrounded by a garden with different fruit trees. The tour he provides is an incredible experience, especially if you want to learn more about Sri Lankan history and local culture. Also, his kottu is the best! I 100% recommend this hostel 😊
