Hangover Hostels Ella

We saw the recent reviews about the bed bugs and asked the guy at the desk about it and he told us that people just wrote those reviews to stop guests from staying here (not sure I believed that) anyway no bed bugs so we were fine (we stayed in a 6 bed female dorm) the rest of the hostel though was a mess. The bathrooms were unclean, the water was cold when having a shower and the general state of the place was messy and dirty. In the dorms themselves the plugs and lights by my bed did not work

We have ended our stay after one night and changed to another accommodation (we didn’t got any refund of the other booked nights)! The walls are paper thin, the street in front of the Hostel is super loud, the cleaness in the dorm room was not good (we had mouse feces in the room), the dorm rooms are super tiny, no a/c and the bathrooms were not really clean too. Nevertheless, the Hostel is close to the city centre and the Manager is a nice guy!

Really poor private rooms, stuffy and hardly any ventilation. No AC and fans don’t work. No windows or windows blacked out so no view, for the rate much better options exist. The location is pretty central to the town, but the place has no views of the mountains for why most people visit Ella

Very congested dorms and little or no facilities. Even the breakfast was mid and the coffee was overpriced

genuinely so bad - the photos are not an accurate representation of the private room. you can’t even open the window to air out the bad smell because it opens out onto a smelly alleyway. next door bar was playing loud trance music so loudly and the guys doing breakfast did not make us feel very welcome and also they didn’t have any clean towels.

Calidad precio muy mala. Un hostal caro para precio de Sri Lanka. Las habitaciones son enanas, sin apenas espacio entre camas ni sitio para dejar las pertenencias. Verdaderamente agobiante. Además, las camas son incómodas y si llueve caen goteras. Las toallas son de pago y por el precio, no lo recomendaría. El desayuno y ambiente no están mal.

It was really bad stay the lady was not care of guest and also there was a man with cap he was really bad also I don’t have a place to park my car

Overall ok and friendly staff, but the dorms are very small with no room for your backpack

We booked this place for three nights but ended up staying only one night because we found bedbugs in the bed. We informed the host and asked for a refund. Although we were initially told we would receive a full refund, we were only refunded for two nights. We were also asked not to inform other guests staying at the accommodation. However, after speaking with some of them, they reported finding bedbugs in their beds as well. Based on our experience, I would not recommend staying here.

I had an amazing stay! The social atmosphere was great, and it was so easy to meet people. The staff were all super friendly, especially Elsa, who is an incredible person and made the experience even better. Highly recommend!

Good hostel, clean, in the center of the city, good service

Best place to stay in ella - brilliant location and the staff were very very helpful. Couldn’t recommend more.

I had a great experience at Hangover in Ella and I ended up even extending my stay! The location was absolutely ideal and close to everything you needed. We had a great social crowd when we were there and all the activities were super fun. Shout out to Anthea and Elsa for being incredibly friendly and helpful during my stay! Would recommend to anyone coming to Ella and will be going to the other Hangover hostels on the coast.

Staff friendly enough, although reception could get busy and there would be a long wait to be served, could definitely do with more reception staff. atmosphere was fairly social, met some good people. rooms and bathrooms were fine, clean enough, no big complaints except bathroom a little smelly.

nettes personal, gute lage & frühstück inkludiert. zimmer sind leider winzig und die bäder werden erst mitte des tages geputzt, sodass es da oft leider nicht so sauber ist :/

Was a nice stay for 2 nights in the 10 bed dorm. I wasn't lucky with the people in my dorm (they where pretty loud in the middmiddle of the night). But in gereal the people working there are soo nice and help u with everything.

It was fine for a night but nothing special. Didn’t meet any other backpackers there

The hostel is very ok. At the time I was there it seemed very empty and nothing social really happening. Good location and social spaces. But be warned, when I say the room was small, I really mean it. Can barely walk between bunks it’s so crammed.

Had a private room and it was good. Free breakfast is nice as well. Location is very convenient. Room smelled a bit like mold but it didn’t bother me much.

unfortunately we had a few issues with water running out every afternoon at around 4pm as well as our 10pax dorm having bed bugs - although, the staff were AMAZING with these issues and did everything they could to rectify both of these. The staff also in general make such an effort to get everyone involved + make sure everyone is having a good time.

Very sociable hostel and people were lovely but water didn’t work, got locked out of our room for most of the day and they found a bunch of bed bugs in one of the other rooms

The staff are so so lovely here! And the breakfast was lovely. The rooms are just a bit cramped and the bed bugs / water shortages / wifi issues put a damper on my stay.

social hostel with a very nice location if you want to do some hiking. very helpful staff and could rent a scooter from them which was the highlight of my trip here. totally fine dorms where you have a bed and curtain and lockers.

Very central in Ella. Staff are helpful and were very apologetic and communicative when the water outage affected the area. Rooms are quite small and loud due to central location. Breakfast was good and filling.

Très bon emplacement. C'est un hostel classique, mais les lits sont propres, confortables et il y a des lockers et des rideaux. Le petit-déjeuner est inclus mais est trop léger, on reste sur sa faim. Pas de possibilité de laisser ses affaires dans un locker après le checkout, dommage. L'eau des douches est tiède et la propreté de la salle de bain laisse un peu à désirer... Mais si on n'est pas trop regardant, ça reste un bon point de chute pour explorer Ella.
