- ❗️DONT BOOK HERE ❗️ I booked this place because the reviews looked good. But if you take a closer look at the lower-star ratings, I’m clearly not the only one—see my story below. I wanted to do the 3-day tour from Bali: Ijen – Waterfall – Bromo. I checked hostels online and saw this one had solid reviews and a decent average, so I thought: YES, book it. I chose the all-in package, everything was sent over, and I could start the tour right away. I rode my scooter for 4 hours and arrived around 10PM. The tour was leaving at midnight. I had booked a night, but didn’t even use it—no problem, I was just happy to join the tour. Around 9AM we came back and went to sleep. At 12PM I got a message saying I had to check out or book another night. If you book a tour, isn’t it normal that they look after their guests and don’t kick them out in the middle of the experience? Especially since we were leaving again that evening for the waterfall. So I booked another night. Later I heard from other guests that they found this completely ridiculous—they had to pay for two extra nights with their tour, but it was dropped after they complained?! Their response: “They booked a different tour.” The only difference was that they had an extra pickup service from Bali, which I didn’t need because I had my scooter. Anyway—I move on. I asked multiple times before booking: “Is the pickup point the same as the drop-off point?” YES, they said. Short version: it wasn’t included. I was stuck in Malang and had to get back because my scooter and backpack were there. The hostel manager (who I repeatedly asked for a name—never got it) was rude, disgusting, and honestly someone you just want to avoid. Everything was with WhatsApp message, they didn’t want to pick up the phone. And the cherry on top: after the 3-day tour, we arrived early morning at Bromo. After just a few hours of sleep, I got another message saying I had to check out—even though we had just returned?!

Gonna keep it real I'm writing this from my next hostel and honestly wish I was still back at this one. The thing that sticks with me is how the staff remembered the little stuff. I casually mentioned I was craving mango one afternoon and the next morning at breakfast, boom, a plate of sliced mango just appears. No charge, no fanfare, just a quiet kindness. I absolutely loved the vibe here! The staff were incredibly helpful in organising our Ijen trek waking up at midnight felt less painful with their hot coffee ready. The garden is a little jungle paradise, perfect for chilling in the hammock afterward. My only suggestion would be to add a few more power outlets in the dorm. With everyone charging phones, cameras, and power banks for the hike, we were all shuffling for the only two available plugs, which was a slight nightly scramble.
Recomended base for Ijen crater! The hostel arranged a reliable 2 AM pickup and provided gas masks. Returned to hot showers and a hearty breakfast. Staff remembers everyone's names so personal! If I had to nitpick: the outdoor seating area could use a few more cushions. But the banana pancakes alone are worth booking
Stayed here before my Ijen hike and honestly wish I had more nights. The vibe is super chill met some cool travelers while having free coffee in the garden. Bed was surprisingly comfy, AC worked well. The staff drove me to the trailhead at 1 AM without any fuss. Bathrooms clean but basic, which is fine. Breakfast banana pancake hit the spot. Only 15 mins from ferry if you're coming from Bali.
Honestly, I only planned to stay for one night to see Ijen, but I ended up extending for three. The vibe here is just so chilled out. The staff go way beyond just checking you in they actually sit down, grab a coffee with you, and help you plan your whole route around East Java. It feels less like a hostel and more like staying at a friend’s house. Clean beds, great coffee, and even better people.

They organised my midnight trip to Ijen Crater without any hassle. The driver arrived early, the guide was experienced, and they even gave me a headlamp and gas mask included in the price. When I came back exhausted at 10am, they let me shower and rest in the common room. Breakfast was simple banana pancakes and coffee, but enough. The dorm was quiet despite being full. Great value for backpackers who want convenience and honesty.
I came to PaddyView Hostel needing solid wifi and left with work actually finished. The long common table had proper chairs. My bunk had a shelf, lamp, and socket that didn’t disturb anyone. Free tea all day and a brilliant warung next door. A tiny gem for digital nomads.

I had such a wonderful stay at this hostel in Banyuwangi. The staff were incredibly welcoming and always ready to help with directions or recommendations. The atmosphere felt cozy and safe, which made it easy to relax after a long day of exploring. The location was perfect close to local eateries and just a short ride to Ijen. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the common area was a great place to meet other travelers. I would definitely come back again.

+ Nous avons séjourné dans cet hostel afin de faire l’ascension du mont Ijen. Nous sommes passés directement par l’établissement pour organiser l’excursion, et tout s’est parfaitement déroulé : l’expérience était vraiment géniale ! Le personnel nous a également aidés à organiser notre transport jusqu’à Malang en van. À noter toutefois que ce trajet a été plus long que prévu et vraiment pas confortable (environ 9 heures au lieu de 6). Cela reste cependant indépendant de l’hostel, qui n’en est pas responsable.
- Rien à signaler de négatif, si ce n’est que nous ne recommandons pas forcément d’organiser les transports vers une autre ville via l’hostel.

+ We ended up extending we enjoyed it so much. The Hostel is super cute with very nice common areas. The staff was absolutely amazing! They were all so friendly and ready to help with any questions we had. The location is in a fairly quiet neighborhood and only a short walk to the main road where there are lots of restaurant options. It was all in all a great stay and would deffinitely recommend!
