Mad Vervet Hostel

La zona en la que está el hostel es muy fea. Llegue de noche y re difícil de encontrar. Todo MUY oscuro. Había una reunión de muchos hombres en lo que a la mañana siguiente descubrí que era un patio, olor a alcohol y cigarrillo. Lo positivo es que el chico de recepción me hizo un upgrade porque la habitación que reserve “no estaba limpia”. La que me toco bien, súper espaciosa. Cuando quise irme no apareció nadie en recepción hasta las 9.3 de la mañana. El lobby estaba todo sucio ...

I wish a few things were improved that would have made my stay a lot better. It was hard to find the hostel. They don't have any clear signage for the drivers to find it. It would be helpful if they put up a sign at the end of street. Also, when the driver calls the number to try to find it, they just tell him 'it's downtown.' Second, the bathroom wasn't clean. I felt uncomfortable trying to take a shower or even use the toilet. Next, no baggage storage. They just put my bag behind the desk.

It has potential, but the standards is not that good now. I stayed there for 1,5 week, two different rooms. Both were dirty, the blankets smelled sweat, and uncomfortable madrasses. Found a lot of hair. Sink and toilet did not work always, water all over the floor. Staff said it was clean, it wasn't. No water or electricity for days. Dirty kitchen, smelly fridge. Always dirty dishes. A dog who does not like people (bit one traveler). Smelled weed in the room from people smoking in the backyard.

Generally there was a really good atmosphere at this hostel and I got to know some very interesting people while I was there. The architecture of the building is also really interesting. The one drawback is that there could be more effort made towards engaging guests and providing them with information or support when they arrive, particularly by staff working on reception.

The good- It’s in a residential neighborhood and feels very safe. They help you with booking tours. I recommend that you use their pick up and drop off to the airport as ride share apps are not the best in Ethiopia. The bad- Sometimes it was hard to get a hold of the staff as no one is in the front desk even during the day. There is a WhatsApp number you can text but sometimes they reply quickly and sometimes it might be a few hours before you get a response. No hostel sign so hard to fin...

So this hostel is nice if you wanna meet people and sleep in Addis at a cheap price. However, it’s really hard to find (there is no sign at the entrance and Google and Maps.me give different locations (Google maps is the right one)), the area is not the best, and the bathroom are not great (like the showers are broken and don’t have a door etc). The staff is really nice, but there isn’t always someone available at the reception.

Overall, good hostel! The atmosphere is awesome! The big downside is that they have no lockers for the belongings. I'd be nice to add curtains to the beds.

This hostel was a great place to meet folks to hang out with. Unfortunately the bar was closed while I was there, quite disappointing. The rooms/bathrooms could definitely be cleaner but overall it was a decent place.

Very homely and welcoming hostel. Real oldschool hostel vibes, good communal spaces including the bar. Hostel food offering is a mix of very tasty home cooked Ethiopian dishes. Staff are extremely helpful and can help to organise activities around Addis Ababa. Effort is made to keep the rooms clean, and the hostel feels secure with a guard outside watching over the entrance. Very happy with the stay and will stay again if I return to Addis.

A pleasant and comfortable stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the hostel offered good value for money. Booking through Hostelworld was easy and smooth, which made the whole experience hassle-free.

Really awesome hostel. I did two tours with the hostel (Danikal Depression and Omo valley) and they were organized well. Although I did not spend much time socializing there, I imagine that it would be fun if I had. The bar area is great and they have a nice kitchen and common area. The location also felt super safe. My only feedback would be to add a sign outside as it was a little hard to find

It is because of the staff at Mad Vervet that I would be happy to return. Everyone who worked there was so pleasant and helpful. The breakfast is tasty and affordable, though only available from around 9 am. The bathroom facility was clean but well overdue for a refurbishment. There's no sign out front and I only got inside for check in because some neighbours pointed me to the right gate.

I stayed here for 3 nights during a short solo trip. The staff was really helpfull. I also got to meet lots of interesting travellers with whom I had a very good time. There are many common areas in the hostel (including a bar!), making it easy to make new friends.

Sehr empfehlenswert!

This has everything you need including a well equipped kitchen and staff more than ready to help you sort your travelling plans even the evening before. I did not meet many people since I only stayed one day and slept most of the time, but since there is a bar in the basement and a livingroom I believe there are good surroundings for solo travellers to meet.

Great place if you need to be close to the airport. Easy to connect with other travellers. I really enjoyed my stay @Mad Vervet. Great facilities around. Only thing to complain is the smell of pillows and blankets. Glad I brought my own sleeping bag.

friendly staff with bar downstairs. not everyone speaks english. it is hard to find for uberdrivers so be prepared for that, on first arrival it was difficult toto find. the food they made was amaziamazing ! super pretty, chilled area. tours available to dagali deppression and other places. its a pretty building. highly recommend.

We had a great stay , compared to other accommodations we felt very safe in the hostel also there was warm water and the host could really help us because she spoke good English! The price is amazing , we will definitely come back!! Thanks :)

good hostel decently clean could be better. good location and staff is a good resource to help with your travels. the decor is cool and good vibes. will come back
