Room2Board Hostel and Surf School

Good location right next to the beach so for surfing trips, it is a decent spot. However, the price (even by Costa Rican standards) cannot be justified. The air conditioning unit in the room didn’t work and the fans by each bed may as well have been non existent (covered in rust and barely processed any air). Horrendously hot and humid at night with terrible smell as a result. Shower had no temp dial and became scalding hot in minutes. Only one tap worked. Filter coffee not free in the morning...

There were bed bugs in my bed and the state of the rooms where really bad.

Over priced, 12$ for laundry and 4$ for water. Cliquey volunteers, dirty kitchen. Good for beach access though and surfing.

Zero useful utility in the kitchen, no coffeemaker available. Asked for a coffee and had to shell out $1. Bed sheets were filthy, and the front reception volunteer was less than helpful

Total disaster. We were not allowed to get in. The gates where closed and the security guy had no notice of our confirmed booking. We never got the money back.

I stayed in a private room. There were no working power outlets in the room—only in the bathroom. When I asked to have this fixed, the reception staff offered to call a technician. When nothing happened the next day, they suggested switching me to a different room that had no hot water. In reality, my own shower barely had hot water 90% of the time, and the water pressure was so low that the stream was very weak. There was also no Wi-Fi in the room. There was no equipment at all in the kitchen. No cups no plates no NADA. And the sink was blocked and all was disgusting. Sooo expensive for nothing.

The hostel may be good in peak season however do not go in non-peak times. There were as many ‘volunteers’ as there were people staying, and all seemed to have a degree in unhelpful and patronising customer service - felt a bit like high school with a clique we weren’t in as they were almost all particularly unfriendly and unwelcoming. We stayed 2 nights and for 24 hours there was no water although no one told us that it was out we just had to figure it out for ourselves - this meant toile...

The property it self wasn't bad, but it was al little bit dirty, like no one care about anything. In my room there were ants everywhere! The volunteers had little atitude, border to being rude. They didn't speek not a little of spanish or good english either. I belive that with a bit of love and care this hostel could be much better.

Laa habitaciones y los espacios comunes están muy bien, a excepción de la cocina que está un poco sucia pero lo clásico de los hostels. La piscina y el bar excente! Lo único que mejoraría sería la vibe social, no hay mucho ambiente de grupo. Hicieron una fiesta con DJ pero no había nada de gente. Falta un poco de intención del staff de crear ambiente de convivencia entretenido

Had a fantastic stay. Very social and safe.

Loved being right on the beach, and the pool and bar area had a hotel feel to them. Plenty of easily identifiable and nice staff around. The bathrooms are only 1 per floor and I found them a little run down.

Most incredible hostel I've ever been to by far with the most amazing accommodations you could think of, let alone the insane location on the beach. Staff was so awesome, air conditioners in the room, bar by the pool, etc etc

its 20min walk off any bar the shower get so hot you dont even have time to clean. kitchen is a tiny corner in the middle of no where. its ok but jaco isnt worth anyways come for friday maybe. the pool is cool and your close to the beach

Nous sommes restées une nuit dans une chambre de 12 personnes. Le personnel a été super : nous nous étions trompées dans les dates lors de la réservation et sommes arrivées à l'auberge un jour trop tard. Ils ont tout de même pu nous accueillir et nous placer dans la même chambre, sans frais supplémentaires. Les lits étaient très confortables et les chambres propres.

Great vibes. Volunteers/staff are super nice. Met some awesome ppl. Had a great time!

Unreal facilities, friendly staff, right on the beach with surf board hire is perfect!

The good : cool hostel, great location so close to beach and city centre, nice fun pool and top patio. The bad : Stained sheets, ac only available during night, only a sheet to sleep with (its so hot anyway).

Amazing hostel overall. Great location and a really fun, social atmosphere. We stayed in a private room on the top floor with a spectacular view, which was a big highlight. Rooms were comfortable and cleanliness was good. They have a quiet policy from 11 pm, which makes it easy to rest and start the day early. Everything was great. We especially enjoyed the location right at the beach and the staff was really nice and helpful.

Loved the convenient access to surfboards and lessons and the direct beach access. Cool people

Room2Board is the kind of hostel that makes you wanna book another week, the hospitality is excellent and the placement is great. The surf boards are well taken care of and the instructors are fire. People get social and the vibe is awesome.I totally recommend if you are visiting Jaco.

All staff was so slow…

C’était ma deuxième fois à cette auberge de jeunesse et j’ai encore plus aimé! Le personnel était vraiment gentil et on a pu avoir des vrais conversations avec eux. Il est arrivé quelques mésaventures, mais l’auberge a pu nous aider! Sinon on est à quelque pas de la plage et du centre-ville

Had a great time for 2 nights! I was comfortable in my private room with great AC + easy to share bathroom. Steps from beach, lots of walkable restaurants, food at the restaurant/bar was really good too. As a solo traveler, it was great to chill alone on a hammock, but also met lovely people and shared a day enjoying the surroundings. Yoga and surf lessons are a must. It was a party on Saturday night, but that is what I'm looking for in a hostel! Lots of friendly people, then quiet at 11pm.

Super great vibe with in-hostel pool and bar, and close to the beach. Rooms are clean and AC works great. Only issue was the lack of wi-fi in some common areas.
