Shangrila Boutique Hotel

Terrible experience. Made me wait for check in, then brought me to a room that had been ready for hours. No AC, so you have to open the window, and the street noise is so loud. No good common areas for hanging. No social vibe. Staff was not very friendly compared to other places I stayed in Nepal. Couches in front area smell soooo musty. Toilet seat disconnected from toilet. Left after 15 minutes to move somewhere better, asked for a refund and they refused even though I’d prepaid for 4 days

I booked this hostel after my trip to EBC. The listing guaranteed hot showers, working wifi and a bar. All of which were either non existent or barely working. I had booked 3 nights and after the first night wasn't happy. I tried to speak to the staff and was happy to pay for the second night. All I wanted was a refund on the third night to help to pay for somewhere else. The staff didn't want to help at all, hear what I had to say or were willing to offer any compensation. Very disappointed...

Estaba toda la calle en obras, no se podía dormir (uso tapones) No me pude duchar el agua salía marrón/sucia. En fin, fui a ducharme y dormir y no pude hacer ninguna de las dos. Personal atento y todo limpio, pero por ese precio y esas circunstancias. Muy mal.

As seasoned travelers, we're not picky, but our experience at Shangrila Boutique Hotel was disappointing. We were assigned a room with dampness and mould, and though we were told we’d be moved immediately, we were stuck for two nights while new guests were given rooms. When we finally moved, the shower didn’t work, Wi-Fi was down, and the communal showers were in poor condition with mould and holes. For the price, there are much better options in Kathmandu.

Sabina is amazing but it’s overpriced and the key situation is weird. Only some people get the key so you have to leave the dorm door open so everyone can get in. Really good breakfast. In Thamel but tucked away. Quiet

Staff is very friendly and helpful and the location is good, in a more quiet part of Thamel. However, the facilities and atmosphere are horrible, especially the bathrooms need to be fixed. Shower doors and toilet doors that didn’t close or had no locks, which resulted in people locking off the entire bathroom when they took a shower or went to the toilet. Imagine sharing a bathroom with an entire floor that needs to take a shower in the morning, I actually used the toilet in a hotel next door�...

I don’t understand why this hostel has good reviews. There were rats in the rooms! I could hear the rats walking next to my bed at night. We had to ask 3 times for lockers since they were all occupied and I had to share a somewhat broken locker with my friend. Beds are made of steel. Bathroom situation is weird af, everyone can see you shower. When I checked out they thought I had to pay something which definitely wasn’t the case. Location and breakfast was good but definitely would not rec...

It was okay. The table football didn’t exist. Same with the PlayStation. Mouse in the wall of the room. Didn’t have keys for everyone in the dorm. No safe for your belongings. The baths were blurred see through glass.

Would absolutely avoid. I turned up expecting good things given the reviews but had a very bad experience. They didn’t have any private rooms left (despite me booking one in advance). When I pointed out I’d paid for a private room, the manager said to send him an email and he’d refund my deposit through Hostelworld. I checked out, sent the email and he replied saying they cant do refunds. Terrible experience

Staff are nice, food is decent, location is good, facilities could be better, especially the showers. Owner is a child when you don't purchase his trek guides. KK (the owner), referred to me as "an idiot who didn't know what he is doing" behind my back to my friends when it came to trekking on my own through ABC, one of the most touristy and well known treks in the country. My friends noted this wasn't the first time they had seen this behaviour from him with guests who wouldn't purchase guides.

Lovely staff, very kind and up for a chat about how your day was! The breakfast was my favourite thing! Perfect for sustaining days full of long walks and exploration too! Great terraces’ to read on and a lovely hammock to welcome in the days.

Super good location, good kitchen for good price, very friendly and helpful staff

This hotel is lovely, and the free breakfast is really good - however (my mistake) it's not a hostel and doesn't have that social vibe (although was quite friendly over breakfast). The room was great, clean and very comfy, but the shower took 15 minutes to warm up - and then only got Luke warm. There's baggage storage available here.

Great stay! Clean, central, and a lovely vibe.A huge thanks to Bikrant for being so helpful, their kindness really stood out and made me feel right at home. Definitely recommend this spot!

KK is such an amazing person and an incredible host. I was able to complete the Manaslu and Tsum valley trek with his company as well, 10/10 and Dhrub was the best guide. I highly recommend staying here, all the staff are so friendly and take care of you well, the hotel is very clean and welcoming. It felt like coming home after my trek.

We had an incredible stay here. Thank you KK for such generous hospitality and kindness, Laxman for incredible food, JJ for greeting us every morning, and Dhruab for the laughs and being a wonderful guide during our time in Nepal. A place is only as good as the people and we are so grateful we spent our time in Nepal with you all! Very nice Hostel, clean and very polite/helpful staff! I forgot my sunglasses there, and the kept it safe for me until I came back to Kathmandu. They also allowed me to have some of my stuff in a locker while I was on my mountain-trek.

Nice hostel/hotel in great location. Not noisy since it’s in a side alley. Good common terrace and rooftop. Booked it for the start and end of my trip to Nepal.

Good location, helpful staff, clean rooms, lovely roof terrace, relaxed atmosphere, serves really good breakfast and evening meals, nothing bad to say, thank you

Amazing place to stay if your in Kathmandu. They are very helpful! I had a package that I needed to receive from back home and it was no problem to sent it there en helpt with everything!!! It’s a nice and social hostel.

Best hostel in ktm

the staff was really nice, they let us check in early and recommended a perfect hike. The rooftop garden is also really nice.
