Social Backpacker Hostel & Rooftop Bar

DO NOT BOOK. I couldn’t even check into this place. They didn’t respond to any of my messages or calls throughout the day to let them know I was arriving - despite them offering free shuttle pick up. I paid for a shuttle, arrived to the hostel at 7.30pm for there to be a note with the WhatsApp number and no one at the desk. I went for dinner and hoped someone would be back by then for me to check in. No one was. I’ve again tried calling and messaging but no response. I had to pay for anoth...

the hostel was very cheap and well located, but thats about the only good thing to say!! had great potential but was very dirty, bathrooms are hideous, leaking from the ceiling, doors don't lock, room felt a bit run down...would recommend if you fancy a very cheap hostel, but you are getting what you pay for (if that!)

The hostel was disappointing, the rooms look as advertised however our bathroom leaked through the wall all over our floor. We booked two rooms one for us and one for our friends. Our friends had to switch rooms because of a leak in their bathroom aswell which stank of sewage and cheese which was just gross! The hostel rooms were clean but the corridor and communal areas looked very rundown. We also had to pay extra just for some aircon in the 35° heat which was not stated on hostel world.

Very very dirty hostel… Which is sad because the staff and location are nice.

zu wenige Toiletten und Duschen. Personal semi freundlich. haben uns nach einem Tag ein neues Hostel gesucht.

Very poor facilities and cleanliness but the location is good and the guy who runs it is nice and seems to be trying to clean the place up.

Zaten in gedeelte van restaurant. Airco werkte niet. Stond op 16 graden maar iedereen werd wakker in zweet of kon er niet van slapen. Douche en wc lekte, dus badkamer stond helemaal vol water. Bedden waren slecht en te kort. Wij zijn een dag eerder weg gegaan helaas.

Beds were small and bad, staff was allright but half spoke no english whatsover. Door was horribly squeeky so everytime someone entered Everyone was awake.

In my opinion it was dirty. Also the receptionists hardly spoke any english and there was always a bit of a smell around.

Great location and kind people that work there. Chill roof top. Private room for 10€ is pretty cheap, but for a reason: spider webs in the corners, little weird insects, lots of mosquitos because there is no glass windows, just wooden blinds that don't close properly. Bed, though, was clean and comfortable.

Got what you paid for! More budget hostel in battambang but can’t complain! Staff were nice and helpful, beds were comfy. Bathroom was a bit small and only 2 showers for the entire hostel so can be a wait to shower or use the toilet. Rooftop was lovely and chill.

Very old outdated building, very ugly and poorly maintained. Very unclean. Fits the value but would still expect more. Building is very old and has been quickly boxed into separate rooms. We’re quite easy to please but found lots of issues with our stay. Incredibly unsocial atmosphere, not by fault of owners but the roof was always empty and the bar was always unattended, pool table is unusable too.

good location, comfy bed, and spacious dorm room with good aircon. bring flip flops for the bathroom.

o staff era muito simpático e atencioso. o serviço de recolha correu lindamente, liguei para o gerente quando cheguei e em 5 min já estava na estação. quartos espaçosos, ambiente do hostel social, bastante bom para o preço.

Nice hostel, the owner is so nice and gets you involved in everything, he runs different activities every night as well which is great for the social side of things.

The manager is very kind and always willing to help. I arrived at 5 a.m. and had to wake him up to check in, but he was there for me! Thanks again, Chloe

This was the cheapest I had ever seen a Mad Monkey Hostel so I finally decided to book one. It was a great experience. The staff were all great, specially Malis and Sola gave great tours and were very friendly anytime I’d see them around the hostel after that. The vibe is great with tons of other travelers hanging out all day. However, I did find bed bugs on my last day. But the staff took it seriously, washed all my clothes and steamed my belongings, and even gave me a free meal after.

Really enjoyed my time at social backpackers. Very friendly staff, chatty and helpful. I saw a few bugs but it is SEA so to be expected. Most positive part was over the 4 days I spent there, improvements were being made every day. The owner really cares about the business and making it as comfortable as possible for people. Great location and fantastic value for money.

Good hostel, staff are sound aswell

Good cheap hostel in Battambang. Staff helpful and they do provide tours everyday, however barely anyone there so better of booking tours online. Nice area on the roof but again barely anyone there so not very social. Bathrooms are wet rooms which aren’t great but absolutely fine for one night which is all you need

Great property for the price, beds were very comfortable and rooms were clean. Social area upstairs was nice, but things could be a little slow with few staff but this is okay. The shower areas were not great and could do with updating, not the cleanest, and 2 showers for the whole building caused waiting at times. But overall for what you pay for you cannot complain.

Okay hostel for the price you pay. Defiently cleanliness issues and only 2 showers for the entire building was an issue. Also the dorm rooms have no curtains on the windows so struggled to sleep.

What a weird stay. The lady who checked me in was very kind and spoke good English which I appreciated. The actual hostel is a bit rough and needs work done. The bathrooms! The first occasion for me whilst travelling where I understood why people hate hostels. It was very old fashioned with a wet floor and the toilet in the same room. The whole hostel has 3 showers/toilet included in that room, privates I believe have their own. I wouldn’t recommend but the bedroom did the job.

Highly recommend for a social hostel. The family dinner that the hostel hosts is great for meeting people and served good food. Also the full day tour is really good - highly recommend the full day! The social aspect of this hostel really made it for us. There’s limited bathrooms at the hostel, but the beds/rooms are okay and good location.

Had a private room, en suite was full of flies and bugs as there was a pool of standing water in order to manually flush the toilet. Do not book your tour with the hostel. Our Guide was just a driver, dropped us at the bottom of the mountain and allowed us to walk up to and around the killing caves & temple alone - had to listen in to other tour guides to learn about the sites.
