I stayed at Saigon 1979 Hostel from July 26–28, 2025. During/after my stay I developed clusters of painful, itchy bites all over the right side of my body, clearly consistent with bed bug bites in rows and groups. The hostel apologized and asked how they could help, which I appreciate. But I’m already back in the Netherlands, so it’s too late for any real support. Hopefully they address the issue quickly. Until then, I’d recommend staying elsewhere.
Terrible bunk beds. Pretty sure it had bed bugs and couldn’t sleep the entire night. Overall, the washroom wasn’t clean and floor wasn’t clean too
Dirty Poor quality facilities - bath had holes, bedsheets with burn marks and bobbles, looked and felt dirty. No security on doors of dorms.
There are bed bugs here be warned. Location is great, staff were nice, atmosphere is college/party. Place is pretty dirty but everything works.
Fine, but the bed are small and it is very noisy
We were “upgraded” to a ground floor room with a glass door and no lock, which felt a bit unsafe as the lockers were also difficult (/not possible) to lock. That night, my friend woke up to someone not staying in our room, trying to take her bag. We ended up leaving and were given a full refund, and the hostel said they’ve since added a lock. We appreciate their response (if a lock has been added), but as two female travellers, it was a scary experience that could’ve been avoided.
The staff were lovely and very helpful to my party and I. The rooms were quiet and the beds were spacious. Other facilities however needs some work: the bathroom by our room was incredibly cramped making it hard to even step in. The next bathroom downstairs had a door handle that broke off while inside.
Room was not clean at all, many people had bugs in their beds and the female dorm in which I was staying had water/mold dropping from the ceiling. Every person who came in went to warn the reception and all the times they said "tomorrow we will call the technician", but they never did. Location is good tho and they offer several tours.
it's ok, the dorms are quite dark and small and the beds arent comfy but privacy curtains are appreciated! i was only here 1 night but the atmosphere seemed nice, with lots of people to chat to at breakfast. staff come into dorms around 7.45am, turn lights on and clean which is very odd. overall not worth the price, but an ok place to stay. free brekkie is nice to be included but not lots of options. free coffee is very tasty though!
This was a nice place to stay for a day or so however it wasn’t particularly clean. Bathroom was not good in the dorms, smelt funky and you can see though to the shower, one of which didn’t have a lock on. Beds really comfy, however we were up on the top floor and it felt a little neglected. Met some great people and did enjoy our stay but wouldn’t stay again for more than a night. Not bad over all!

awesome hostel with such chill & helpful staff. activities and buses from hostel are so well organised. they even give you little snack packs for your day trips !!
When I go back to HCMC, I will definitely come back here. Such a social hostel, I’ve met so many nice people and it was so easy. The staff is absolutely great, everyone’s so helpful! Big recommendation!
Such a nice hostel! The location is great, the room is clean and nice and the rooftop bar is really cozy. But best with the hostel is the staff! So nice and helpful and helped us plan activities that became the best part of our stay in ho chi minh. Really recommend.
Good hostel. Pub crawl wasn’t the best but it was FREE!! The guy that led the pub crawl was super chill and cool tho. Great people great breakfast !!
very good place, very friendly staff, social Atmosphere, good rooms
best hostel you can get in Saigon
Great hostel! Nice social atmosphere, well located in district 1 and lovely breakfast in the morning. Special mention to Sam at reception, he was super helpful and kind. Definitely recommend staying here!
Free breakfast was awesome and everyone from the hostel was there in the morning so it was easy to meet new friends and make plans for the day. Beds were big and comfortable with curtains but the rooms were a bit small and the bathroom was a wet room en suite (at least for mine) which isn't my favorite
Good social hostel to stay at in HCMC, the curtains aren’t super thick material so sometimes hard to sleep but other than that all great !
One of the best hostels I’ve stayed. The rooms are clean, the beds comfy. The free breakfast is really good and available until late in the morning which is really practical. It’s really social, a lot of activities are organized and there is a free beer every night. The only downside is that there were no hot water early in the morning but it was really hot so it didn’t bother me much. Would definitely stay here again !
Nice social hostel, plenty of space to meet new people, dorms are clean & the staff are friendly
Great hostel! Spacious bunk and I like that it had shelves, mirror, outlet, and light in it. The only reason I didn’t give full stars is because there were flies and I saw a cockroach in the hallway but that’s to be expected in HCMC haha. Staff were so friendly and helpful! I loved the free water/beer and free breakfast! I would recommend staying here.
Great location near the Bui Vien walking street. Perfect if you enjoy nightlife. You will need to walk or Grab to other tourist locations, however. There is plenty of food and a 711 closeby. They offer big group tours to popular destinations. I enjoyed the Cu Chi Tunnels and the Mekong Delta tour. Staff here were so kind and gave you info on things like buses to nearby cities. There was a great social vibe here that they culminate through tours and a free beer on their rooftop bar for happy hour.
Fine, but the bed are small and it is very noisy
What a great hostel, especially for the start of my trip. Very social, central, and very friendly staff, especially Sam, Alex, and Steve who helped me get my bearings and learn some (extremely rudimentary) Vietnamese. Highly recommend this to anyone in hcmc wanting to meet fellow travellers.
the best hostel I Saigon.staff très sympa, serviable et au petit soin. situation géographique au centre avec beaucoup d'autres resto et activités a faire.
Very central, very friendly and helfull staff, nice rofftop-bar, nice rooms and bathrooms are okay 😊 The let me chill and shower before my nightbus left in the evening. Thanks a lot! Hope to stay there another time!

Lovely place to stay at. The staff were the nicest people, always there to help and give you tips for whatever you want. It was super clean, I was seeing the place literally getting cleaned all the time. Location is amazing also. Shout out to the place, when I get back to Saigon I am definitely staying at this place again!
One of the best social hostels to stay at. The rooftop at the mobylette (owned by the same people) was an amazing place to meet people. The rooms were decent and clean. The bathrooms were decent and they had people cleaning all the time. Would recommend
