Too noisy (level crossing with trains running before 6 am and the bar downstairs most nights), and a lot of long-term people staying at the hostel (no idea how they do it) act like they own the place. On the good side, the BBQ was great and most guests were friendly. Location is ok Cleanliness is not the best, but that's due to guests not respecting the rules. I went to another hostel just after this one and it was a much better experience.
The hostel has a very cozy feel to it, but unfortunately a lot of the guests had been there a long time and were far too comfortable, so the place was very messy, a little clique and they would sleep in common rooms during the day, make lots of noise in the bedroom at night. if youre under 23 and british will be fun, if youre not prepared to live like a student you wont enjoy. Although it was very messy, the bathrooms were clean and the the recepotion staff were very friendly.
Lovely team that welcome you when checking in. You have a welcome drink too which is always nice to have :) Rooms were spacious. All had separate lockers. Bathrooms were tidy. Everything was what you would expect to have. Nothing really special. Overall good stay for me. Security of the building for the travellers is very good.
The owners are nice and I liked the location but the hostel feels a bit worn out. The beds are very uncomfortable and common areas could use some updating. Most of the guests have been there a few weeks if not longer which itself isn't a problem but the rooms had clothes and personal items everywhere. My room also smelled quite bad
Great location. Older facilities. Especially the sagging mattress. Loud at night and on the weekends due to the bar downstairs and the echoey wooden hallways. Good for a few nights…I’m impressed by all the people staying there for medium to long term stays. Be sure to check out Cafe Ray!!! And everything else Sydney road has to offer.
Really lovely to stay at the Vic— I'd say better to stay here only if you intend to for longer than a week. Felt like as soon as we started to make connections and break into the scene with the long-term residents there, it was time to go! Which was sad...so give yourself some more time here if you can, it's good people! Rad neighborhood, great food and queer scene in Brunswick. Staff here are kind and helpful, such a community scene that we were grateful to enter for a brief time.
It was a great place with a great atmosphere and the best staff. Unfortunately the cleanliness of the kitchen could be better. But overall it is a great place for backpackers and the best staff.
Really social Hostel, family vibes, you quickly get to know people. since not too big it never feels super busy and loud either. My mattress tho was probably the worst I've had in all of AUS and the beds aren't the sturdiest either, so prepare for a ride on the top bunk when bottom bunk people move.😂 if it wasn't for the beds I would have given it much higher rating tho.
How can you sum up the Vic? We originally planned to stay a week, and ended up there for two months. More like a house-share than a hostel, it always felt like home, with wholesome and fun vibes and people. Above a pub, In a cool part of Melbourne, being Brunswick, you are also never too far to the centre. Your station is a short 3 minute walk away. The owners, who also run the pub downstairs, would walk to Uluru for you, always there if you need anything, and very accommodating. The staff at th...
I booked a room for myself after staying in dormitories for the past weeks to get some rest before going home. Unfortunately I had a rough first night, due to the bed frame being broken, which made the mattress sag. After telling the staff the next day they exchanged the whole bed frame the same day. That's what I call amazing service! Since most of the people stay there long term it was not so easy to connect with others as a solo backpacker. Also most sofas are broken and should be replaced.

super endroit avec un super personnel
We really enjoyed our stay. Chilling vibes, nice staff and many things you can enjoy around the hostel. The Pub underneath is good bonus 👌 🍻
It’s located on the second floor of a bar. The minimum stay is five days, so there isn’t too much turnover, making it more relaxed than hostels in the CBD. The neighborhood of Brunswick has a nice local vibe, and it’s fun to explore. There’s a free BBQ every Sunday. The staff are friendly, and the place feels comfortable — I’ve even extended my stay. バーの2階にあります。最低宿泊は5日なので、人が入れ替わり過ぎることがなく、CBD内のホステル...

The Vic is class, the staff are great and it’s so well equipped. It’s in a brilliant area and has a very nice community feel to it, can’t recommend enough
I'd like to rate the staff 6 stars but the site doesn't allow it :)
I stayed here for 6 nights! Great spot I would happily stay here again! Lovely staff and lovely people in the hostel too!
Lovely place with everything you need nearby! Staff is super friendly and the place feels like home. Good food and beer deals for backpackers 😉
The Victoria Hotel in Brunswick has been for me the place to call "home" for my first period in Australia, as I arrived alone in this new Country and I had everything to learn and discover. This place welcomed me and took care of me for a very long time, probably still is. It became fast a safe space full of new friends, like a family of lost wanderer all there to support each other in this crazy Australian adventure :) Every experience is subjective, but still I really hope many many more peopl...
Good people, good location
Best hostel I stayed in in aus, will return

Great stay at Victoria Hotel! Highly recommend if you are wanting a fun and social hostel!
Best hostel I’ve stayed in so far!! Originally wanted to only stay for 2 weeks but extended for 2 months. The vibes and social life in this hostel can’t be matched. Because of its smaller size it’s basically like a big house share where everyone knows each other. Staff is amazing as well, super welcoming and helpful. The Vic feels like a home away from home
Brilliant hostel! I was very warmly welcomed by Laura en Reggie when i arrived a little earlier than check-in And was just as welcomed by everyone who was staying there! The place felt very homely and comfortable and everyone did their part to keep it that way Will definitely be coming back when i get to Melbourne!
Great vibe! The guests and hosts are all great, it feels like a big house, home away from home! Good for long stays, and short, plus close to everything you need! Tram for going to town, shops, cafes, bars, it's in Brunswick so very chill trendy area! Highly recommend the experience, plus, there's a bar downstairs, free BBQ every Sunday currently, it's great in every way!
amazing hostel staff are all really lovely and helpful, more like a house share than a hostel such a good vibe from everyone staying as well a lot of fun
