Wolf Totem Steam Punk Guesthouse

Wolf Totem Steam Punk is genuinely filthy. The owner acts like a hostile hippy gatekeeper who can’t be bothered with guests or basic cleanliness. The rooms stink, the beds are nasty, and the entire place feels neglected and uncared for. Nothing here matches the photos or the promises. Stay only if you’ve completely run out of options.

The hostel owner’s behaviour is very off — creepy guy. I was kicked out for: Firstly asking him to repeat the price of a taxi. He replied angrily that he “doesn’t repeat information”. Secondly, I asked to borrow a knife to cut open an avocado. Wild request on my behalf, I know. He kicked another guest the same day for simply requesting a bottom bunk. Is it merely a coincidence that all the negative reviews mention the owner’s behaviour as the common denominator? Uncomfortable...

The property itself is in a beautiful location, but the atmosphere was uncomfortable. My friend was asked to leave after minor interactions, such as asking to borrow a knife and checking the price of a taxi. I also overheard the host speaking disrespectfully about him afterward, which created tension among guests. It feels like experiences here can vary a lot — some guests seem to have a great stay, while others face unexpected conflict. Unfortunately, this made it difficult to feel relaxed...

Beautiful location, but the host ruined my stay. I broke one rule (going in the kitchen) and disagreed with his opinions at dinner, and his reactions were harsh. He mocked me and insulted me to other guests behind my back. I felt genuinely unsafe and left early. Also, dogs and cats were allowed on the dining table (dog hair in your coffee, yum). The host’s behavior ruins the experience. Not a place I’d recommend to my amigos!

We do not recommend this hostel. The rooms were very dusty and dirty. The owner's dogs and cats walked on the tables where you eat. One of the dogs laid in the beds in our room and we also saw it drinking from the toilet. The same dog bit the strap on one of our bags, and despite the owner giving us 20 soles to have it repaired, you have to be careful with your things. The fireplace in the common room caused a very strong smell of fire, and our clothes smelled for several days after leaving.

the good things first: it's located in a cute area, the place in itself looks nice & it's calm now I have to be honest on my stay : it was horribly dirty. Idk if the cleaning person was on vacation but for the 3 days of our stay, the 3 toilets of the shared dorms remained full of s***/p*** and were not cleaned. Unusable. The bed linen was full of hairs (was it changed?) and the shower were dirty as well. For the price (11€ the dorm bed!!!!) they make you pay, it's intolerable.

I would strongly recommend reading the bad reviews and the owners responses to them before booking this hostel. The owner kicks people out late in the evening for things as little as speaking Spanish, wearing sandals and asking simple questions. The place is beautiful but the atmosphere the owner creates is tense and uncomfortable. Never had issues with any other owner but he screamed in our faces making us feel physically threatened and we were the 4th person he'd kicked out that week- unstable

This was probably the worst atmosphere I've ever experienced in a hostel. the owner makes you feel very uncomfortable in any possible way. we we're more than happy to leave early in the morning and leave this soulless place!

the owner showed me to my room. He saw that I had my guitar and very rudely said no guitars allowed here. I said no problem I won’t play my guitar while I’m here. Then out of curiosity I asked him why that was a rule. He proceeded to yell at me and tell me that it was his business and he can have any rules he wants. I agreed and say I was just curiou For about 10 minutes he was angry and rude. I calmed him down and he realized he was being absurd and tried to fix it by gifting me an incense ...

Horrible experience. We were greeted by a owner who was rude and scolded at us several times when asked simple questions. According to other travelers this happens all the time... The place represents everything that is wrong with the world. It looks shiny and cheap on the outside, so attracts young travellers, but is rotten and hateful on the inside. We were so uncomfortable that we didn't even stay for breakfast.

I loved my stay here, perfect for relaxing and really lovely vibe in the hostel. Food there was great and very easy to get into the main town. I did yoga here which was excellent and stayed for a sauna as well.

Wir haben zwei Nächte im Wolf Totem Steam Punk Guesthouse verbracht und hatten eine echt coole Zeit! Die gemeinschafts Badräume sind großzügig und relativ sauber. Die Lage war überragend und das Essen dort Mega!! Gibt immer vegetarisch und végane Gerichte und zum Frühstück die Smoothiebowl ist der Shit! Sind sehr froh dass wir die zwei Nächte hier verbracht haben.

Very nice location with tons of amenities. Ivan is a great host and he has created a great hostel for taking it easy. Beds are nice and dorms are separate from common areas, so you can use the common areas 24/7 without waking anyone up. One of my favourite hostels.

A great place to relax and explore from! The perfect combo of social and chill with super comfortable double beds in very quiet dorms whilst also hosting a pool, occasional steam room, a billiards room, and a lowkey bar. The owner is super chill and the bathrooms are top notch and clean, the food is also great, largely locally sourced, and clean.

Ivan hat ein kleines Paradis erschaffen. Ich wollte einfach ein bisschen zur Ruhe kommen und es gab einen perfekten Mix zwischen sozialen Kontakten, Relaxen, Yoga... Ivan bietet Frühstück wie auch Nachtessen an, welches sehr preiswert ist, für diese top Küche! So kann man gemütlich den Abend beim Feuer mit einem guten Nachtessen verbringen.

Such a unique great place to stay - Ivan was so generous and even surprised me with an upgrade which was so beautiful overlooking the mountains. Great place to meet people during breakfast/dinner and saunas

Cooler Stil, sehr nette Menschen und viele süße Tiere! Die Aussicht ist wahnsinnig schön und das Hostelgelände sehr entspannt, mit einem Yoga-Deck, viel Wiese und Pool + Sauna. Der einzige Minuspunkt ist, dass es keine Küche gibt. Zumindest heißes Wasser wäre schön. Wir hatten aber eine richtig gute Zeit hier!

An incredibly unique hostel with such beautiful surroundings. A little outside of Pisac with a nice 15 min walk to town. Thank you Ivan, the work you put into Wolf Totem is noticeable and makes this place so special

Great vibes at Wolf Totem. Ivan was very welcoming for us to stay and to extend. The sauna and pool were a nice addition. Place was peaceful and pizza night is a great place to meet other travelers. Recommended!

Epic! Amazing hostel. I’ve traveled a lot of the world and stopped in many unique hostels but I have never been to a hostel quite like this one. Situated on a mountain side secluded from the main town, but still close enough, with the most amazing view of the mountains. The owner is a really sound guy who has it his way or no way resulting in a much better living experience. One of the most stunning places I've ever stayed in! Amazing design, delicious food and drinks, and just perfect to relax. Would definitively come back. And Ivan is a great host! I really enjoyed chatting with him

my stay at wolf totem came at exactly the right time in my trip, after the chaos of Cusco, Ivan provided a beautifully peaceful haven for rest and recuperation. i had a lovely comfortable double bed, in a dorm which was a great surprise. nestled up in the mountain away from bustling Pisac, you can truly relax at wolf totem, accompanied by all the loving dogs and cats, with a lovely sauna to treat yourself too! Ivan makes sure all guests are tended to in full and shows deep care for his space:)

A real chill place allowing you to relax in one of the most magical places in the world. It’s a really cool place to drink beer, kombucha and everyone that I met during the were cool. The hostel seems to attract a really easy going, cool crowd! Interior design is off the wall. Thanks Ivan see you next time

Ivan is the perfect host, very responsive to his guests needs. This is a very unique hostel experience while also feeling like home from home. Friendly atmosphere and delicious food. Must try is the sauna followed by dip in the panoramic swimming pool. Be prepared for a mini hike of 5mins up the hostel as it’s set on a beautiful mountain side- which you definitely get used. Going down is much easier :)

A can’t miss if you like the path less taken.

This hostel has a big place in my heart. Very respectful and peaceful atmosphere with an amazing view. Probably most comfortable beds youll find in south America. Thank you ivan!
