Hostel O2

O2 is a great hostel for travellers in Almaty. Dorms are a good size and very clean and modern. Main area is spacious with many tables for seating. Karina, staff member, was extremely helpful in sorting local overnight trips and spoke great English. Only downside is that the location is a bit on the edge of town and so a 20 min taxi into central Almaty. That said, taxis are very cheap (£2-3 for 20 mins). Would recommend!

The hostel is clean and there was never a wait for the showers or bathroom. My private room had no windows or AC (but did have a fan). The location is a bit outside the main attractions in Almaty. You will need to take a bus/Yandex to go downtown. There is little atmosphere- no daily activities organized by the hostel- people just sit on their phones/laptops in the common room. Many feel like long term guests rather than backpackers/tourists. The guy at the front desk is friendly.

I came here thinking it was far from the city, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. It was one of most nicest property, with all the basic amenities, throughout the day and night. You will meet some of most wonderful host along with the travelers, that would make you feel cozy with this unknown landscape. Without a doubt, I would cherish this experience with lovely Kazakh People and hospitality they gave me for my short duration in this place. Thank you so much for hosting me.
