109 Funchal Hostel

For what you get at this hostel, super overpriced. Biggest complaint is that it gets extremely hot during the nights and there is no fan in the rooms. If you try to open the windows you will have to wrestle with millions of mosquitoes until the morning. The positive side is the location and the bathroom which is spaciousz

Was in a 4 bed dorm down bottom. Not very good for the price paid. Could hear all foot steps and the room was barely functional. Adequate. Make sure you stay in the rooms upstairs if you book. Appreciate the cleaners for doing such a great job. The kitchen is tiny and outside is a bit dero to spend time there. No where to really place to relax unless on your bed.

I was really underwhelmed after reading many good reviews. Tried writing a full nuanced review but there are not enough characters permitted. So: small room, no key, worst pillow ever (gave me a headache), very clean, nice kitchen utilities and big fridge, only room for 2 or 3ppl in the kitchen, no common room. We booked in september or august to stay for nye (busy time in funchal). The called us 1 hour before check in that the place was overbooked. This is ridiculous because you don't just find out 1 hoor before. They arranged for a different place and made it sound like an upgrade. The other place was a complete dump. The room, towels and sheets smelled, there was meld in the shower and the WiFi hardlopen worked. Obviously we were upset and apped the host. She got mad at us.

Due to saftey hazards I did not feel comfortable staying in this hostel and will unfortunatley not be coming back. Communication before arrival was non-existent and I stood in front of a locked door. If you ask about the process beforehand, this won‘t happen to you - but you have to take initiative. If you have no signal/cell plan for abroad, you‘re out of luck. It was well located, I never met the host or anybody from the hostel. My room was nearby the kitchen and during the night some drunk guests arrived screaming and making noise. Of course nobody from the hostel was there to avoid it. I think it is a bit overprised.

Personale cordiale, stanza da 4 letti al primo piano con scarsissima areazione e alta umidità, che rende difficile il dormire. Ostello relativamente pulito e gli altri ospiti erano per lo più simpatici ed educati, la cucina è molto piccola ed è l'unico spazio comune.

Décevant. Même si l'hostel est bien placé, bcp de choses à redire. Très mal isolé et bruyant, pas de présence d'une personne sur place, pas d'info touristique, pas possible de laisser son bagage en partant, 2 portes étaient cassées pendant + d'une semaine donc nous avions 1 seule salle de bain pour tout l'hostel, un espace commun minuscule dehors, des choses un peu vétustes. I stayed in a private and feel like I could have gotten better value elsewhere.

Wonderful hostel, very clean, central location, well decorated, very friendly and helpful staff.

Seamless stay overall. Comfortable private twin room - we were even given an extra pillow on request! The hostel is clean & well-maintained, with friendly staff on hand to help out if required. Nearby area is quiet enough given it’s in the centre of Funchal, you won’t have the noise of parties etc around you.

In a good location and easy to walk to restaurants and shops. Check-in was difficult as it was done remotely. Kitchen was quite small and there aren’t many shared spaces despite there being a nice outdoor area because it only has 2 stools.

Overall positive experience. I'd have liked to know that there are only two bathrooms without separate toilets overall - it should be three or four rooms of 4 beds total. When I booked the price was 40€/night. Considering that the kitchen is very small and there's no real shared space apart from it and the entrance hall maybe it could have been cheaper. Anyways, I was there over Easter so not expensive after all. Really cool to have super quick support via WhatsApp.

the place is in probably in the best location. the street is calm and clean. the hostel has more or less all facilities working properly, beside the kitchen and the bathrooms which are a bit dirty and not well treated. the bedroom was clean and with all the necessary appliances. all in it was a nice experience and would recommend.

Good hostel.

Lovely place, great character and lovely peoppe and staff. The double room bed was so hard and had a plastic cover protector that felt like sleeping on plastic every time you moved. Lovely location also

Mais on a eu un vrai souci de checkin : aucune information par WhatsApp au préalable, malgré ce qui était indiqué. Everything worked out well and we enjoyed our time at the apartment very much:) Because of the high humidity, there was mold in the room. I informed the host, and she said she would address the issue promptly. Overall, everything was good, I would definitely recommend this hostel!

Very nice, pretty and clean stay!

Very nice hostel and centrally located. Very comfortable beds and the hot water in the showers were great. Parking was a real challenge at first but there are a few 5 euro overnight parking spots within 500m.

Good hostel to get to know Funchal

Das Mädelszimmer ist wundervoll! Die Küche etwas klein, aber alles ist da was gebraucht wird!

Really happy with my stay here. I spent 6 nights whilst travelling solo and managed to meet some great people during that time. The hostel is clean and Rosa is super helpful and responsive.

We had an overall ok stay at 109 Funchal hostel. Kitchen and bathroom didn’t feel completely clean. There were only two bathrooms for all people staying there, so it was often occupied. Water in the shower was cold. Not really any common area to be in, only two chairs in the small kitchen. Bed was comfortable! And atmosphere was good, all people staying were very nice.

J’ai aimer cette vielle maison toute refaites, le lit, qui était fait tout les jours! Avec des serviettes propres! La facilité d’accéder à toutes la ville et les chouettes chouettes voyageurs que j’y est rencontrée! J’ai adorée mon passage ici!
