Firehouse Hostel

I wouldn’t go back. They say on the website there is air conditioning but there IS NOT. I had a terrible sleep the two nights I was there, because it was SO HOT. The first night I went downstairs at 3am to ask front desk if they could help, and potentially provide me a fan and he said there was none. The tiny fans they have in the dorms are all covered in dust and none of them turn on. If you don’t care about a good sleep, this is the place to be!

It wasn’t to my liking and I won’t be returning. I didn’t realize that there was a bar downstairs that closes at 2 AM so the curfew isn’t until 2 AM. The shower curtains were pretty disgusting with black mold. It’s a great location for those who want to be immersed in the bar and club scene. The staff member in our room was smoking his vape, not cool. The best staff member was Ashley.

Avoid this place! Bed bugs al over the place! They will bite you while you sleep. Rooms don’t match the pictures posted on the website (they don’t have curtains, fans gets super hot) The staff not really friendly, was talking with the manager and he kept on rudely interrupting all the time. They look at you:” why you come here…” also no social life at all organized by hostel staff. No bar hopping, no social trips nothing at all is offered even for the payment… very odd vibe.

Quite run down, lacks any good vibes, common areas

Had to leave earlier than I had planned because of dirty bedding and overall cleanliness. I enjoyed the atmosphere but was worried I would catch diseases.

Couldn’t get any sleep due to the bar blasting the music even when no one is there. Cancelled the rest of my stay and still haven’t seen the refund.

Lots of broken things in men’s bathroom, toilets, soap dispenser. The room was pretty gross, beds were one of the worst I’ve experienced in a hostel. The air vent was disgusting. Just clean that stuff and fix broken things please.

Staff was rude. Place was loud at night. Rooms were filthy. And after paying at the front desk for 4 nights...I was suddenly emailed after the 1st night and told I had to check out the next morning because I had stayed previously in the year and had exceeded a 14-day maximum stay yearly. It was a Saturday night and while they did refund my money, it did not hit my bank account until Tuesday and I was on the streets of Austin for 2 nights!!!!!!

Incredibly dirty hostel. Much worse than anything I have seen around the globe.

This place should not be allowed to be listed. The place is far from being good. Disgusting and gross

Quirky hostel right on the heart of town close to all amenities. Would highly recommend and stay again.

Loved it. Can’t wait to stay here again!

Thanks for having a great employees one who welcomes me on 4/5/26 was so nice when she welcomes me by my name makes me feel like vip even I been here in past this visit was awesome fantastic that way we the guest feel too thanks Then this morning when I check out the lady who was at front desk makes me want to stay more days but job calling thanks again wonderful staff 😀 😊 ☺️ 😄 🙂

leaving a five star, because the staff were lovely (mostly Jon) but honestly I'm not sure how this place has such good reviews, I would not stay here again. I didn't even have a light or a power plug next to my bed, as described in description, lockers were way too small for my bag. I thought I was booking what was pictured, but no.. The room was bare, bunkbeds were wobbly metal, with no privacy curtain. honestly put me off hostels.

The facilities are pretty fine and the staff is very nice but if you are hoping to sleep before 2am, don’t even try. There is a speakeasy on the ground floor which resonates through the building. You can clearly hear the music loud and clear in your bed.

Nice place. Quiet hours not until 2am due to loud bar downstairs until 2am. They give free earplugs. Free simple breakfast and laundry.

Only hostel in Austin, good option to stay in downtown. They have a nice bar which guests have discount.

great location, good value for money, kitchen is suprisingly well equipped! I had a 4 bed dorm which was quite spacy with big lockers for luggage. Bathroom quite clean, great showers! I was kinda missing a space to hang out & chill (the kitchen is not really the most comfortable). Also be aware, the bar is right below the hostel so your bed will be shaking because of the noise from around 8pm to 2am 😅

The hostel covers some of the absolute basics. It has a lot of potential but falls extremely short in cleanliness (the bathrooms weren’t cleaned or restocked daily, the showers were moldy/had mildew especially on the shower curtains which costs $1 to replace, the bedrooms also weren’t cleaned (mopped/sweeped), etc. There was no AC/air conditioning in the room and the ceiling fan was messed up. It’s VERY loud & location isn’t safe at night, The staff were super sweet!

Good hostel, although the bar downstairs is very loud until late at night virtually every night. Bring earplugs or find somewhere else if you have an issue with noise.

Friendly staff and a great location! I wish the bathrooms were better, though - not enough hooks, shower looked like it hadn't been cleaned properly.

I really liked the vibe of this hostel. Also nice that they give you two pillows and comfortable bedding. Rooms are quiet and well equiped. It was decently social for a US hostel as well. Would definitely stay again.

L'emplacement est idéal, à part cela, beauoup de laissez-faire. Pas de lampes de lecture pour chaque lit, personnel mal informé, sauf MIRANDA à la réception -- une perle ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Petit-déjeuner rustique mais suffisant, cuisine bien equipée, assez d'eau chaude dans SDB. Mais pas beaucoup moins cher que quelques hôtels dans le quartier.

Ideal location, right in central downtown Austin blocks from the Texas state capitol. Friendly staff, happy to answer any questions, give recommendations. Bunk beds 10 out of course 10 big, comfortable, sturdy top bunk doesn’t shake constantly, provide blinds for privacy. The hostel is really close to downtown and historical 6th street where all the party is going on. Its a safe hostel with amazing employees and volunteers, they work really hard to make you comfortable. Thanks to all, especially to English girl Kaz. Rooms are big enough and beds are comfortable. There is always hot water. Cleaning of bathrooms may be done better as usually i saw they were not so clean but this is because of guests too. In general its a very nicr hostel highly reccomended

Had such a fab time at this hostel! Howie was so sweet to us and gave us so many tips. Great location and super nice rooms, would defo go back here if ever in Austin again :)

Very sweet staff members. Decent amenities for the price you pay. The Firehouse Lounge is an awesome cocktail place! Hostel location is excellent! This will be my place next time when I am in Austin.
