Mateo Hostel

Cockroach in bed. Rude staff. Smelly room. Old creepy man in my room. Not social at all. Didn’t feel welcome at all.

When we arrived in Hostel Mateo, we were met with an over booked hostel, rooms that smell like hell and beyond, one combined shower/toilet(with missing toilet seats) per (10bed(or more)) dorm and fans blasting cold air just centimeters from uncovered beds. The floors are covered in dirt and the general vibe is that no-one has cleaned anything, rooms or bathrooms for days.

One of the worst hostels I ever stayed in. There is really only one guy working there who doesnt care about you at all. Bathrooms are dirty and the rooms downstairs smell. Dont go here!!

Really not good. Room was literally tiny and so hot even with AC on. Nothing felt very clean and there was screaming drunk underage people running around at stupid o clock. Staff not friendly or welcoming either. Only good thing about this hostel is the location.

I didn’t like the hostel, there are no windows in the dorms and the bathrooms are really dirty, no toiletpaper in any bathroom and there was no staff to talk to. The only nice thing was the terrace and the short walk to the beach. Wouldn’t stay there again.

Very basic hostel. Beds were fine but my sheets were stained. Room was super squished. Bathrooms were kind of gross… just a big shower room with a frosted glass door into the main room. Bathrooms didn’t seem to be cleaned regularly. Terrace was nice and location was ideal. Check in was at restaurant below (enigma) and no staff seemed to be around during the day. I do think this one should’ve been priced lower for what it was.

Excellent location, great view of the sea from the balcony. Good vibes overall, highly recommend.

Small room for 6 beds but very nice terrace

The room, bathroom and common space were very clean. From the balcony there is a very nice view on the beach. When I was there there was no social interaction. Everyone was very on theirselves. There was one volunteer but she only spoke Spanish so that did not really help a lot.

The rooms are tiny! There were 3/6 beds full and the room felt like we had too little room inside.

Good location, very central. Unfortunately there were only a few bathrooms so you sometimes had to wait to use one

mixed feelings on this hostel. it’s located in the best spot, 2 mins away from the central bus station, right in the waterfront with the beach right in front of the hostel and near the boat port as well. the beds are quite comfortable with privacy curtains, lights and a shelf and charging ports as well. but the room itself was so small it was very difficult to move around and store everything adequately. the bathrooms were quite disgusting, the showers barely worked and also smelt really bad.

Incredible location with a brilliant balcony overlooking the waterfront. Rooms were clean and A/C worked well. Just lacked atmosphere when I was there

Great location, nice rooms. Absolutely loved the stay. Only complaint was WiFi didn’t reach my bed but I was able to access it totally fine from the common area!

Hostel was overall in a great spot, right beside the beach and the beds were comfy and clean. Free breakfast downstairs was good. Wasn’t the most social

Honestly, I don’t understand why this hostel has such a high rating. It was the worst check-in experience I’ve ever had at a hostel. There was no information provided beforehand (not even by email), and the check-in was done through a restaurant. The girl who showed me the property was very rude, and there was no staff available to give me information or tips during my stay. The bed was extremely noisy, and the room was very small. There was no social atmosphere at all.

Amenities were as listed. The property was a bit hard to find which was a little off-putting. The common area wasn’t the most social but with the right attitude you can make some good connections! All in all the beds were comfortable and everything was clean and great. The location was perfect, extremely close to the city center and the nearby beach. The common area also had a great view overlooking the water!
